A Note from the Pastor Fr. Michael Fragoso

Last Sunday Pope Francis canonized two new saints, St. Stanislaus Papczyński, MIC (1631 – 1701) who founded the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception. They are at the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA. Also, St. Maria Elizabeth Hesselblad (1870 – 1957), a Swedish convert who restarted the order founded by St Bridget of Sweden, the Bridgettines, and dedicated herself to Christian unity and helping the poor. She is also recognized as “Righteous Among the Nations” at Yad Vashem for her work in saving Jews from the Nazis. There will be three other saints to be canonized this year, the Year of Mercy. Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, maybe you will be joining us on our pilgrimage to her canonization in September. Also on October 16, the Holy Father will canonize two Latin American saints. Blessed Jose Gabriel del Rosario Brochero (1840 – 1914) an Argentine priest who tirelessly worked among all his parishioners visiting them on his mule, rich and poor alike. From his work he contracted Hansen’s Disease. Finally, one of favorite examples of faith and courage, Blessed José Luis Sánchez del Río (1913 – 1928). Blessed Jose was a Cristero. He joined the struggle against the anti-Catholic, masonic government of Plutarco Elías Calles, in Mexico. As you can tell from his dates, he was 15 years old when he was cruelly tortured because he would not renounce his faith. He was taken to his place of execution and stabbed with bayonets. He drew a cross on the ground and kissed it. That enraged the captain so much that he took out his gun and shot José. To learn more about the Cristero War and Blessed José I recommend the movie “For Greater Glory” which was sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. These new saints tell us of God’s love and mercy and how we should respond to it.

The Bread and Wine that are being offered at our Eucharistic Celebration this week are in honor of Nicholas & Daniel Farinola. This is a gift from Joe & Nella Farinola.

St. James Adult Faith Formation Fr. Michael and our Seminarians, Joe & Bruno, invite you to join them for this year’s summer series; Spirituality: Welcoming Jesus into your Life. This is an opportunity on how to improve your relationship with Jesus. Weekly discussions will begin Thursday, June 9th at 1 pm in the

Parish Hall and continue for 8 weeks. All are welcome to attend!

**Adoration Time Change**

On Thursday, June 16th , Adoration will be from 3pm to 4pm.

CONGRATULATIONS!

St. James the Less would like to congratulate our two recipients for the William McQuillen Scholarship.

“When I entered your house, you did not give me water for my feet…” LUKE 7:44 Today’s Gospel calls us to consider how we serve God. Do we consume like the Pharisee who simply reclines at the table and expects to be served? Or, do we contribute like the woman who kneels before Jesus and washes His feet? Every day we must make a choice. Take or give? Consume or contribute? Recline or serve?

Dear Parish Family of St. James the Less, "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. ' ~Matthew 25:40" These words are well understood by the people of St. James and that is evident by the generous outpouring of donations that were brought to the Martin House truck last Sunday. Your contributions will benefit the less fortunate in the Trenton area and will help the Better Community Housing of Trenton Foundation continue to assist those who are in need. Many thanks to each of you for hearing the cry of the poor. A special thank you to the "team" that assisted in coordinating the pick-up details, the physical lifting of items and loading of the truck, and the warmth and fellowship we were able to share. With sincere and grateful appreciation, I ask God's blessings on all of you. Yours in Christ, Fr. Brian McCormick
