WORDS OF WISDOM The spirit of wisdom, as we discover in today’s first reading, comes to those who pray for her. Wisdom, like the word of God, carries a message of consola on as well as of great challenge. The Le er to the Hebrews tells us that the word of God, infused with the wisdom of God, is “sharper than any two-edged sword.” We cannot shrink from the wisdom of God, or from the word that has the power to penetrate our hearts and minds. Je-sus, the living word of God, the embodiment of wisdom, has strong, deeply penetra ng words for the rich young man who comes to him seeking answers to his most profound ques ons. Just when the young man thought he had done enough to fulfill God’s commands, more was asked of him. This is no less true for us. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

PAWòL BON KONPRANN Lespri bon konprann nan, jan nou wè li nan premye lek jo-dia ,vini nan moun ki lapriyè pou li. Tankou pawòl Bondye a, lasajès pote yon mesaj konslolasyon ak anpil gwo defi. Lèt Ebre a di nou kijan pawòl Bondye ak lespri bon konprann nan, “pi file pase yon kouto de bò”. Nou pa kapab kache pou pawòl bon kon-prann Bondye a, oubyen kache pou pawòl ki genyen pouvwa pou li antre nan kè ak lespri nou. Jezi, pawòl vivan an, “enkanasyon” bon konprann nan, genyen pawòl konsekan pou nonm rich k’ap cheche repons pou tout kesyon li yo. Lè jenn nonm nan panse li fè ase pou li viv kòmandman Bondye yo, Granmèt la mande pi plis toujou . Se menm jan nan ka pa nou.

Stewardship – “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” MARK 10:25 Jesus uses tough language that we may not want to hear. But, we are all called to be generous with all our gi s. Not just the ones we pick and choose, but all our gi s: our me in prayer to God, our talent in par cipa ng in parish ministries and our treasure suppor ng our local parish and other chari es.

Invest just fifteen minutes a day in prayer, and your faith will deepen and grow—a day at a time.

Envesti kenz minit sèlman chak jou nan lapriyè, epi gade wa wè jan lafwa w ap vinn apwofondi, ap grandi, yon jou alafwa.

LEKTI JODIA: Sajès 7:7-11; Ebre 4:12-13; Mak 10:17-30 or 10:17-27 (143). “Ale vann tou sa ou genyen, separe lajan an bay pòv . . . Epi vin swiv mwen.”

. . luego, ven y sígueme

Sunday, Oct 14, 2018 TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME A modest proposal Jonathan Swift set his 18th-century readers on fire when he “modestly” suggested that poverty in Ireland could be ended if the Irish would but resolve to eat their children. This grotesque recommendation was neither seri-ous nor a joke, but something else: a wake-up call to the plight of the desperate. When Jesus offers his modest proposal of total renunciation of our property, we’re left in the same boat as Swift’s audience. Is Jesus serious or kidding? What is he saying about what’s most vital for life? Can’t we follow him—and drag all our cool stuff along?

TODAY'S READINGS: Wisdom 7:7-11; Hebrews 4:12-13; Mark 10:17-30 or 10:17-27 (143). “Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor . . . then come, follow me.”

PARKING LOT CHARITY AND COURTESY Please be mindful when parking your car There is always plenty of parking available around the church and under the bridge. “Fire Lanes” are exactly THAT. There are lanes to be left open for an emergency for Fire or Emergency vehicles. Fire lanes are not parking lanes. Cars parked in a fire lane can be towed according to code. We have not enforced this hoping for common sense and courtesy. However, we may have to do this for emer-gency safety sake. Please park under the bridge when the regular parking places around the church are all taken up. Thank you for your charity and for your courte-sy in this very important matter.

Do we need the clean house? Do you own something you no longer need but could help the Church? That something may be an old life insurance poli-cy. You can give your no longer needed insurance policies to St. James Catholic Church. If the policy has a cash val-ue, you may also get a tax deduction.
