FROM THE PASTOR
"OUR PASSOVER, CHRIST THE REDEEMER IS REVEALED TO US TODAY AS A NOBLE PASSOVER. IT IS A NEW AND HOLY PASSOVER, A MYSTICAL PASSOVER, A BLAMELESS PASSOVER, A GLORIOUS PASSOVER, A PASSOVER FOR THE FAITHFUL, A PASSOVER THAT OPENS FOR US THE GATES OF
PARADISE, A PASSOVER THAT SANCTIFIES ALL BELIEVERS."
A Triduum Sourcebook III, p. 443 It is Easter! It is Resurrection! It is Spring!!! Today we celebrate the fact that Jesus has risen from the dead. He has turned death upside down and given us all a new lease on life. His excruciating death has culminated with his glorious resurrection, and he has shown us the way to new life. In the process he has also given us an opportunity to bask in the wonder of new life and of hope. But, do we understand what all this means for us?
This is an opportunity for us to see beyond the limits of time, space and death. It is a time to bask in the glory of the Lord Jesus who gave us a glimpse of what will happen after we die. The empty tomb is a reminder that death doesn't end everything, just our life on earth. Resurrection reassures us that beyond the grave is new life, which we also celebrate every time we gather around the Lord's table to celebrate his death and resurrection as an ongoing encounter with him in life. But the resurrection also instills within us a sense of hope about the present as well as the future. As the earth is recreated in the spring, so are we recreated in the experience of resurrection. This event instills within each of us that sense of hope that allows us to continue to live as a sign of Christ for oth-ers. After all, we cannot call ourselves followers of Jesus without the hope that comes from the new life he gained for us by his death and resurrection. Jesus sends us forth to build the kingdom with the hope that is engendered in each of us.
Because Easter is such a unique time of the year, there are special foods made only at this time. They reflect the experience of new life, not just in spring but also as experiences of the resurrection. They also remind us that as the winter is now behind us, the spring challenges us to celebrate the recreation of the earth, the church and each other. Easter is a time unique in the life of the church as it challenges us to live as a people of hope, resurrection and new life. This is the time of Mystagogia, the Great Fifty Days, to celebrate the glory of resurrection and new life.
In the name of our entire Parish Staff: FR. SILVANO, FR. JOHN, DEACON JERRY, DEACON DAN, NANCY CAPUTO, MATT WILSON, ANN MARIE GESUALDO, KAREN COCCO, CAROLINE PONTERIO, THE SUP-PORT STAFF AND MYSELF, I want to extend to you and your family our best wishes for a HAPPY EASTER AND EASTER SEASON. May these 50 days of Mystagogia be a time for all of us to bask in the wonder of THE resurrection and new life.
HAPPY EASTER!! BUONA PASQUA!! FELIZ PASCUA!!!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS Mrs. Nancy Caputo, Director
Happy Easter! Our regular weekly classes have ended and we are excited for the First Holy Communion Masses to begin. Our 8th graders are also anxious for Confirmation preparation classes to begin in a few weeks. Registration for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year is underway. Please take advantage of the opportunity to re-register now, so that you guarantee your preferred day in our Religion Program and save money at the same time. If you have a child entering 1st grade (Kindergarten is optional) in September, please give us a call to arrange a mutually convenient time to meet and talk about your child’s faith formation. We offer traditional classroom learning; Home Study (grades 3-6); and new this year, a Family Catechesis Program, which you will hear more about over the summer months. It does take a village to teach our children; it also takes many volunteers and we are hoping that you are hearing the call! If you are interested in teaching, co-teaching, aiding, or being an office volunteer, (day or evening) please contact the Religious Ed Office –let’s talk! Has your child been Baptized but not catechized or received their sacraments? Are they of school age and not yet baptized? Do you have a special needs child needing catechesis?
Please contact the Religious Education Office: 973-376-2061 or email: [email protected].

SAINT JAMES TIN CAN AUCTION NEEDS YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO MAKE IT A SUC-
CESS One of the major highlights of the annual Saint James the Apostle Parish Festival is the Tin Can Auction—and your help is needed to make this year’s event even more successful than in the past. The Tin Can Auction is a tricky-tray-type event during which festival goers purchase raffle tickets on prizes donated by area residents and merchants. Saint James needs contributions of prizes—goods, services, event tickets and other items - to make its Tin Can Auction a success. So, if you own a business or wish to donate goods, services, event tickets or other items, please contact
