Sunday, November 22th, 2020 – The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe - Cycle A Readings: Ezequiel 34: 11-12, 15-17, Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall

want”, 1 Corinthians 15: 20-26, 28, Matthew 25: 31-46

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, This Sunday being the last Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe and look ahead to celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States on Thursday. The solem-nity of Christ the King marks the end of the liturgical year. Though this year has been filled with many chal-lenges, when we look back there are many incidents that happened that calls on us to give thanks to God. The song goes that count your blessings and name them one by one. Let us ponder on the beautiful poem of the “footprints in the sand”. “One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I no-ticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord. After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints. This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it. “Lord, you said once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.” He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you.”

The Lord has been faithful to us, and as a parish, we offer thanks and praise to God for his blessings. We

thank each one of you for the blessings you bring to the parish. God bless us.

Mother Mary Elizabeth Lange (1784-1882) Mother Mary Lange was the foundress and first Superior General of the Oblate Sisters of Providence (1829-1832), the first con-gregation of African American women religious in the history of the Catholic Church. On July 2, 1829,Elizabeth and three other women professed their vows

and became the Oblate Sisters of Providence. This congregation would educate and evangelize African Americans. They educated youth and provided a home for orphans. Slaves who had been freed were educated and at times admitted into the congregation. They nursed the terminally ill during the cholera epidemic of 1832, sheltered the elderly, and even served as domestics at St. Mary’s Seminary. She was born Elizabeth Lange, a native of the Caribbean, believed to be Cuban born of Haitian descent. By 1813 Providence directed her to Baltimore, Maryland where a large community of French speaking Catholics from Haiti was estab-lished. Mother Mary Lange practiced faith to an extraordinary de-gree. In fact, it was her deep faith which enabled her to persevere against all odds, in close union with Jesus, she lived through disappointment and opposition until God called her home in 1882 at the St. Frances Convent in Baltimore, Mary-land.

Venerable Fr. Augustus Tolton

(1854-1897)

Fr. Augustus Tolton was the first Roman Catholic priest in the United States pub-licly known to be black when he was or-dained in 1886. A former slave who was baptized and reared Catholic, Tolton studied formally in Rome. He was or-dained in Rome on Easter Sunday at the Cathedral Archbasil-ica of St. John Lateran. Fr. Tolton led the development and con-struction of St. Monica’s Catholic Church as a black ‘National Parish Church”, completed in 1893. Tolton’s success at minister-ing to black Catholics quickly

earned him national attention within the Catholic hierarchy. “Good Father Gus,” as he was called by many, was known for his

eloquent sermons, his beautiful singing voice and his talent for playing the accordion. He is the subject of the 1973 biography

from Slave to Priest by Sister Caroline Hemesath.

Domingo, 22 de noviembre de 2020 - Solemnidad de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Rey del Universo-

Ciclo A

Lectura: Ezequiel 34, 11-12. 15-17, Salmo 22 “El Señor es mi pastor, nada me faltará.”, 1 Corintios 15,

20-26. 28, Mateo 25, 31-46

sitaba, me dejabas ". Él susurró: “Mi preciosa niña, te amo y nunca te dejaré, nunca, nunca, durante tus

pruebas y pruebas.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!

If you can provide love, understanding, compassion and space in your home, you can make the difference in the life of a child, youth or sibling group of children, who currently have no per-manent family and home to call their own.

Children from young to 17 ½ years of age are waiting in foster care. They are part of the 800 + children waiting on any given day for adoption. Pray about making a difference or sharing with others about this need for individuals and/or married cou-ples to come to action for the children in local communities who waiting to be placed with a family that will become their own.

There is little to no cost involved to adopt children from the state’s foster care system, and getting started is easy (there are funds available to help support any cost). Also, college, medi-cal and financial assistance are available to help meet the needs of children adopted from foster care.

Prayer during the hurricane season.

Father, all the elements of nature obey your command. Calm the storms and hurricanes that threaten us

and turn our fear of your power into praise of your goodness.

Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer to St. Roch (patron of contagious illnesses) O Blessed Saint Roch,

Patron of the sick, Have pity on those

Who lie upon a bed of suffering. Your power was so great

When you were in this world, That by the sign of the Cross,

Many were healed of their diseases. Now that you are in heaven,

Your power is not less. Offer, then, to God Our sighs and tears

And obtain for us that health we seek Through Christ our Lord.

Amen. (Repeat the following 3 times)

Saint Roch, pray for us, That we may be preserved

From all diseases of body and soul.

Ofrecer, entonces, a Dios

Saint Eugene Catholic Mission and Student Center Annual Financial Report Fiscal year: July 2018 – June 2019

The Financial Council of St. Eugene has the responsibility of helping and advising the priest and administrator of the Church in economic decisions and projects to be carried out in the Church. These past years have not been easy; we have endured many challenges, changes, and difficult decisions, but we hope to continue on a good path. Below is the financial status of our church for the Fiscal Year 2018-2019, and the projects for the near and long-term future. Summary of the finances for Fiscal Year 2018-2019.

Achievements and Challenges of the fiscal year 2018-2019 1) We began the fiscal year preparing for the football games and hurricane season by cutting down some sick and

death trees around the Church for the safety of our parishioners and visitors in the month of July 2018. The cost of this work was of $ 5,000.

2) We completed the parking line stripping at a cost of $ 500.00 for materials and had the collaboration and work of parishioners in the month of August 2018.

3) The Welcoming Mass activities for the students and the 4th Latino Festival were successfully celebrated in the month of September 2018; the last one with a profit of $ 4,300. Thanks to all who collaborated.

4) The month of October was one of great uncertainty, sadness, challenges and volunteering due to the impact of Hur-ricane Michael in the Florida Panhandle. We came together to help and make donations to the many affected by this hurricane. It was hard work for many of our parishioners.

5) In November we finished some long and exhausting months (August – November) where mostly mem-bers of the English-speaking community held the parking fundraiser during FAMU Football games. This fundraiser brought a profit of $ 18,000. Thanks to everyone who participated in this event.

6) In December the lights of the Church and the Parish Hall were updated and fans were added to the hall. Part of this work was done through an anonymous donation. In addition to our new Advent Wreath, also from an anonymous donation, we had the great feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

7) In December the lights of the Church and the Parish Hall were updated and fans were added to the hall. Part of this work was done through an anonymous donation. In addition to our new Advent Wreath, also from an anonymous donation, we had the great feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. 8) During the months of January, February and March our parishioners were very busy in different events such as Martin Luther King Sunday and Black History Month in the English-speaking Community; fund-raisers such as bi-weekly food sales of the Hispanic community, fish fry of the English community and Len-ten retreats. 9) In the month of March we had the anonymous donation of the new altar chandeliers. We also received the surprise of a new Audio system by a visiting donor of our Hispanic Lenten Retreat. Prior donations for the audio system will be used to obtain everything that is needed for the completion of this project 10) The fiscal year ended with a “Tardeada” event in June 2019 organized by the Hispanic community to raise funds for the repair and updating of the Church bathrooms. Many thanks to all the families who col-laborated for the success of the activity. We still have a long way to go and we have more projects to work on. Some of the projects we have in mind for our church are: finishing the new audio system, fixing the bathrooms, replacing the Church’s carpet and pews, installing a new air conditioning system in the Church, changing the floor in the office, having a Cry Room, and better security of the church for the wellbeing of parishioners and visitors. Little by little we have been working so that our Church is a more updated and safer place of worship for our parishioners and visitors. Our church is now 66 years old; it is small and we do not have the economic ease to do everything quickly. So we have to prioritize and work in the best way possible. We hope this summary helps you understand where your donations have gone and the plans we have for our church. We are trying to be good stewards of your donations by putting them at the best service of our parish, so that we can continue to be a witness and carry on the message of our Lord Jesus Christ. We want to thank each and every one of you, the parishioners of the St. Eugene Catholic Mission who help us every month in different ways and from their different ministries, including those who help us with the cleaning of the Church, beautifying the Church grounds, and repairs to the church. To all who contribute with gifts; donations; and donated time in retreats, fundraisers, events, and programs outside the Church, we thank you for your hard work. Thank you to all the ministries and groups of the Church for helping at-tract people to St. Eugene, spread the word, be witness of the Lord, and keep our Church alive. Blessings, Finance Council Fr.
