St. Dominic Savio He is the patron saint of our Parish. He is a saint at nearly 15 years of age. He was educated by St. John Bosco (also known as Don Bosco) at the Oratory of St. Francis de Sales. For St. Dominic Savio, holiness consists of always being cheerful and of doing one’s ordinary du es, extraordinarily well. His Feast Day is on May 6.
Food is becoming an avenue of personal destruction Pope Francis has again condemned the relega on of food “to a mere commercial product subject to financial specula on” that results in a global contradic on: Even as some 800 million people suffer from hunger and malnutri on worldwide, another 700 million people are obese, “vic ms of improper dietary habits.” In a le er to Qu Dongyu, the first-ever Chinese director general of the Food and Agricultural Organiza on of the United Na ons on the occasion of the annual World Food Day on Oct. 16, the pope declared that “the ba le against hunger and malnutri on will not end as long as the logic of the market prevails, and profit is sought at any cost.” Pope Francis emphasized the need for “a conversion in our way of living and ac ng.” He said, “we must come to realize that what we are accumula ng and was ng is the bread of the poor.” World Food Day is sponsored by the F.A.O. to draw a en on to the plight of so many hungry people and to highlight the need for greater ac on against hunger. Each year F.A.O. chooses a theme to celebrate this day. For this year it is: “Our ac ons are our future. Healthy diets for a #ZeroHunger world.” - America Magazine
