People of Our Parish

From Our Pastor:From Our Pastor:Each October, Jesus Christ and His Church invite us to deepen our devotion to Mary

As the Mother of Jesus, Mary is the Mother of Mercy and Mother of the Eucharist (Catechism of the Catholic Church #963-975) As Jesus calls us once again into communion with Him this Sunday (Matthew 22:1-14), we should never take for granted Our Lord’s invitation to prayer, to honor His Mother just as He did, to deepen our faith, to embrace His grace by which we are saved

On October 7, we honored Our Lady of the Rosary at Mass, with all our school children and faculty attending, and parishioners praying the Rosary, as they often do, before Mass The Rosary, as with all prayer, draws us into deeper communion with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit In the Rosary, we meditate on the life of Jesus Christ and His mother, Mary, with prayers from Luke 1 (“Hail Mary…”); Matthew 6 (“Our Father…”); and Matthew 28, Luke 1-2, Ephesians 3 and throughout the Bible (“Glory be…”) October is also Respect Life Month, reminding us to be a People of Life who defend God’s gift of life for all of His children, from conception to natural death (led by our Knights of Columbus, our parish family is participating in the 40-Days-for-Life campaign, please see this bulletin for details; we will also pray the Rosary on Tuesdays at 5:15pm at the Memorial to Unborn Children, by the fountain across from church) The following, adapted from The Rosary of Our Lady by Msgr Romano Guardini, helps us understand the tremendous spiritual value of praying the Rosary:

The life of Mary, as the Gospel tells it, is as humanly true as it can possibly be, but in this human quality it is filled with a mystery of divine communion and love, the depth of which is unfathomable The Rosary points in this direction

Jesus is the substance of Mary’s life, just as the Child is the lifeblood of His mother, for whom He is the one and all… Not only was Mary’s existence as a human mother achieved in her relation to Jesus, but also her redemption Becoming a mother, she became a Christian By living with her Child Jesus, she lived with God… Growing humanly along with the Child, as do all mothers who really love, releasing Him on the road of life with so much resignation and pain, she ripened in God’s divine grace and truth…

The prayer of the Rosary means a lingering in the world of Mary, whose essence was Christ In this way, the Rosary is, in its deepest sense, a prayer to Jesus Christ… The essence of the Rosary, then, is a steady incitement to holy sympathy… Our eyes meet two eyes that also love and see Those eyes add their range of vision to ours, and our gaze may now go beyond the narrowness of our own ego and embrace the beloved being, previously seen only from one side… Our Lord enables us to see and to love not only with our own sense but also with His Something of this sort, only on a higher plane, happens with the Rosary

Please pray the Rosary today!Fr. William Vernon

A note of thanks from Fr William for our delicious & successful Parish Fall Festival, October 4:

SAINT CLEMENT SCHOOL

GO MAKE DISCIPLES“Prayer takes many forms The greatest prayer is the Holy Mass

when we join our hearts and souls to the complete self-giving of the Son to the Father in the Paschal Mystery Devotional prayer, such as the Rosary, novenas, intercession to the saints, nourishes our spirits We speak to God in prayer, asking for forgiveness, praising and thanking Him, seeking help and blessings on our special intentions Prayer is the ultimate human action by which we seek union with God through conversation, meditation, and contemplation… Prayer is to our soul what eating is to the body A life without prayer quickly becomes aimless and lost Prayer is the compass that keeps us focused on our pilgrimage to the Lord; it elevates the heart, gives peace to the soul and roots us in the eternal, as we make our way through this passing and challenging world Fill your life with prayer—the Mass and other sacraments, Scripture, the Rosary and other devotions, conversation with God in your own words Seek silence and peace amidst the haste and the noise We will hear the still, small voice of the Lord when we seek Him in prayer” ~Bishop Donald Hying, Go Make Disciples October Newsletter

IN MEMORIAMPlease remember in your prayers this week Roger and Mary

Ellis of our parish who both died within hours of each other on Friday, October 2, and their Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, October 5 Roger was 86 and Mary was 84 at the time of their passing from this life to life eternal Throughout their lives Roger and Mary worked hard on the farm that they operated In addition, Roger drove lime and gravels trucks, and Mary was a cook at various businesses in the area All that they did, they did as one They were devoted to one another, to their family, prayer and helping others in any way they could As we pray for them, please pray also for their children Jane, James, Jack, Betty, Lisa, Joe, and Sandy, their grandchildren, and all of their family and friends especially in this time of sorrow, as Roger’s death happened so unexpected May they know the compassion and comfort of the Lord, and the support of our prayers“Eternal rest grant unto Roger and Mary, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
