FROM THE PASTOR Today marks the first day of Advent and the three advents, or “comings” of Christ, which we take this season to prepare for. Herewith are three reflections for our Advent Season. First we prepare to properly celebrate his first coming at Christmas. What a miraculous event! God becomes man so that man could share in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity. Reflection: Take a few moments daily to meditate on the events surrounding his birth and how amazing it is. Read the first two chapters of the gospels of Matthew and Luke. Second, we prepare for his coming to us today. We recall that Jesus does not leave us alone or orphaned in this world. He is always with us and desires that we come to know him intimately. He wants us to have a personal relationship with him along with the entire community of believers. Reflec-tion: How would it be to know Jesus personally and inti-mately? Meditate on the many ways he comes to you today, especially in the Eucharist. Third, we prepare for his second advent. “He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.” What a powerful thing this will be. The scriptures tell us this will be a great and awesome and terrible day. Are you looking for-ward to this day when the world as we know it ends and the Great Judgment takes place? Reflection: Read Matthew chapters 24 and 25. As we meditate on the three advents of Christ let us do so always from the point of view of gratitude. We can usually think of Christmas with some sense of joy remembering our own childhood and the presents. But that shouldn’t be the source of our joy. Christ Jesus is the reason for our joy. The same applies when we meditate on his daily coming to us. All of us should be taking time, several times a day, to say “Thank you Lord Jesus.” Finally, how do you picture his second coming? Hopefully, it is with gratitude as well. If not, we’ve got some work to do. Fear not, he and his bride, the Church, are here to make each of us ready for final con-summation of all things. Come Lord Jesus, come!
