ALL SOULS DAY MASS Last Monday was our All Souls Day Mass and Candle service and it was truly beautiful. Many of the parishion-ers participated in the liturgy and the bell tolled for each soul buried from St. Catherine’s as Father Lou read their

names and a candle was lit for them. If you couldn’t join us this year, please plan on coming to this an-nual Mass and ceremony next year. The names of our dearly departed were…

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful de-parted, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Thank you to all who participated and to Fa-ther Lou who gave a homily that inspired peace among those of us who struggle with our losses. **********************************************************************************

Parenting Pointers……...…....by Susan Vogt “This poor widow put in more than all the other con-tributors...” (Mark 12:43) Our faith (and common de-cency) calls us to share our resources with those who have less. BUT, how much is a fair amount to give? A 10% tithe is easier for a person of wealth than a person who is poor. Review with your kids how your family donates money and time. Between now and Thanksgiving, how will you be generous?

Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time November 8, 2015

“The Lord shall reign forever; your God, O Zion, through all generations.”

The Pastor’s Corner…......Fr. Lou Vallone

Because the All Saints Holyday was on a Sunday this year, we were not able to schedule our regular Town Hall Meeting for this season, so we will have a "virtual Town Hall Meeting." If we had one, these would have been among the topics of discussion: 1. Usually by this time of year, we have made the financial report to the parish for the past fiscal year. However, because the diocese has changed operating systems, we have not had a report from them since May. We cannot give the end of the year financial report, nor do we have the official monthy ones. We keep up to date on a daily basis with Quicken here in the office - every penny in, every penny out documented. We give a week to week report in the bulletin, but for the details and the overall picture, only the print out from the diocese is official. They say it will be corrected by January. We will give you all the facts as we receive them, but in the meantime, if you have any questions, please stop by the rectory and we will gladly share our Quicken data with you. 2.You may have noticed that we are ahead in our Capital Improvement Fund and haven't reported anything for a while as to the expenditures. We are just finishing up with the exterior work (garage, landscaping, etc.) and will soon begin a remodeling of the rest rooms in the basement of the Church. This is where the money will go - we estimate about $10K to do it. As always, after we have actually done the project we will post that figure in the bulletin as against our goal. The garage, parking and exterior work was paid for by our share of the Church Alive! Campaign contributions as is our share of Deacon Len's salary. 3.We have sent the diocese our October Count - the figure of average attendance at Mass during the month. This is an important "snapshot" of participation in our liturgies and is used to make all kinds of decisions on the diocesan level for us. Perversely, through most of the month, our attendance was well below our usual figures, which concerned me. However, we rallied in the last weekend (including the final Saturday Mass) to our accustomed levels. Here are the statistics: We average each Sunday at three Masses about 733 attendees out of 1147 registered parishioners (458 families), with 250 seats per Mass, 750 total.

This gives us an average attendance of 64% of parishioners each Sunday (the average in the diocese is about 30%) and a usage of facility percentage of 98% (the diocesan average is less than 50%.) I don't think any parish in the diocese, large or small, city, suburban, rural, small town, can match this percentages. Well done! 4. But it is not all about numbers. Quality is more important than quantity. In regards to that, I recently received the following e-mail:

"A nice time this morning...St. Catherine's Dept

Fr. Lou, (a.k.a. George Carlin, famous for the "seven dirty words you can't say from the

sanctuary...")

We’re not parishioners, but when we need a four o’clock Saturday Mass we usually hit St. Catherine’s. And I generally say to myself, “There’s nothin’ but old people in this church.” And I say that as someone who’s looking down

the barrel at 68 soon.

But today we needed a nine o’clock Mass and so for the first time we hit St. Catherine’s on a Sunday morning. And what to my wondering eyes should appear but…young people, young families, babes in arms, toddlers, other little

ones, and lots of them.

It was great. It reminded me of when I used to take my little ones to Mass. My “little ones,” who are now 34 and 32. And the Mass had that soundtrack that Masses full of kids have. An occasional yelp, a “too loud” question to a parent, an undercurrent of quiet conversation from dad and mom to the kids. As Jesus said, “Suffer the children to come unto Me.” It made

me smile.

So, as the Aussies say, “Good on ya’, St. Catherine’s.” Looks like you have a nice future. And personally, thanks for allowing me to spend 45 minutes...because no Fr. Bob Mass goes the full hour...of a beautiful Sunday

morning with a continual smile on my face."

5. Thanks for all the good and hard work. I am

proud to be your Pastor. 'Nuff said.
