Offertory Collection - This weekend there is a weekly

collection and a second collection for Repair and Restoration. Next weekend there is a weekly collection only. Catholic Accent envelopes may be placed into any collection. Christmas Flower Envelopes are due by Sunday, December 16. Please print the names that you would like remembered. Religious Education News - Students in our Religious

Education Program (grades 1-5), and their teachers will be attending an Advent Retreat at Saint Paul Church on Saturday, December 15 from 9:30 a.m. - Noon. This will take the place of the regular class. The last session before Christmas will be on Saturday, December 22, the regular class will be held, (9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.) and we will finish the day with a birthday party for baby Jesus. We are asking all the students to bring a "gift" for baby Jesus, (a canned good or paper product to be donated to the Saint Vincent dePaul Society).

The Saint Bruno Junior Youth Group will meet on

Sunday, December 16 from 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Saint Bruno Parish Center and then they will go to Gilbert Straub Plaza to give the residents a small gift and sing Christmas Carols. We are also asking these students to bring a "gift" for the Saint Vincent dePaul Society (a toiletry item, or canned good).

Both Junior and Senior youth groups will be helping

decorate the church for the Christmas Season on Sunday, December 23 at Noon. Meet in the church!

All parishioners are invited to come

and help dress the church for the Lord’s arrival. Decorating of the church will be held on Sunday, December 23 beginning at Noon. Refreshments will be served.

Operation Reindeer will be sponsored by

Saint Bruno again this year. This is an an-nual drive conducted by the Mental Health Association in Westmoreland County. Suggestions are clothing for women or men (especially sweatpants/

sweatshirts/pajamas), hair accessories or make-up, sus-penders or belts, portable radios with headphones, hats and gloves and toiletry items. Items are being collected

through Sunday, December 9 at the main entrance of the church.

As we approach the winter season please note that if

Hempfield School District is delayed or cancelled then Ad-oration here at Saint Bruno is cancelled.

Our Prayer List will start with a “clean slate” on January

1, 2019. All First Friday Communion calls will be carried over into the new year but all others will be removed until we receive notification via phone or email or a note in the collection basket to continue listing and praying for them.

Lessons and Carols - Blessed Sacrament Cathedral,

Greensburg, will host Lessons and Carols on Sunday,

December 9 at 3 p.m. with Bishop Edward Malesic. All

are invited to attend.

The Bethlehem Project, a ministry of Blessed Sacrament

Cathedral (BSC), will hold a “Home for the Holidays” Raf-fle on Sunday, December 16. The Bethlehem Project helps those facing homelessness in Central Westmoreland Coun-ty. Two types of tickets are available: a Sports and Leisure raffle ticket with a chance to win Penguins Tickets, Steeler Tickets or a wine and liquor basket; and a Basket Raffle tick-et with a chance to win one of many prizes. Laudato Si and the family and friends of Saint Bruno Parish

Epiphany Appreciation Party The Annual Saint Bruno Epiphany Party will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 after the 5:00 p.m. Mass. All those who volunteer in any capacity for the Church (Festival, Fish Fry, Choir, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Lector, Server, Usher, etc.) are invit-ed to attend. LITURGICAL ROLES

THIS WEEK

Our Lady of Guadalupe When Mary appeared to Juan Diego as Our

Lady of Guadalupe, she had encouraging

words for him. "Am I not here, I who am your

mother?" In the image on Juan Diego's tilma

(tunic), Mary identifies herself with the Aztec

people. She has their hair and features, their

symbolic maternity dress. She incorporated

their important symbols of the sun, moon, and stars. Today's

Mass includes two Gospel options. Both are familiar passages

from the Gospel of Luke - the Annunciation and the

Visitation. Both are equally relevant to today's feast because

Mary's yes to Christ isn't only to care for him but to come to

us. Our Lady of Guadalupe is pregnant. The image bears

witness to Mary's yes to conceive the Savior of the World. But

even in her pregnancy, she goes to care for Elizabeth. Now

Mother to all the world, Mary comes to the aid of her children,

reminding them of her presence among them.

2nd Sunday of Advent

Luke 3:1-6

Blessed Advent to you all!

Today we continue the "joyful

expectation" of the birth of

Christ in history, the present,

and the future. Today we hear

the words of John the Baptist

calling people of his time to

repentance. Now, this

baptism that John was calling

people to is not the same

baptism that we Christians

celebrate. However, John's baptism is at the root of our

Christian baptism. John's baptism had its roots in the

"oblation washing" of the Jewish people before

undertaking anything of great importance.

Christian baptism is a sacrament to wash away original

sin so as to enter sinless into the Christian community.

It is the one sacrament that is celebrated by all

Christians, even those Christians who are not in

communion with Rome.

John enjoins us to "prepare the way of the Lord." His

call is to be taken in the widest sense. This preparation

is a personal preparation, and is also a communal

preparation. We are called to make sure we are ready to

meet the Lord, and this means that we need to make a

difference in the world to make it better, to make it

more peaceful, and to make it more just. We are called

to protect each other's dignity and share of our

abundance with others so that each may live a life that

is centered on helping others.
