My Dear Friends in the Risen Lord

Jesus, we rejoice in the fact that the weather is getting warmer and we are

able to do more things outdoors, and we are celebrating the fact that Our Lord

and Savior, Jesus Christ, has risen from the dead. Both of these events complement each other. As the

flowers begin to bloom, trees sprout leaves, grass becomes greener, it’s like the earth is rising from a dead sleep to a new life. This teaches us that Christ, the creator of all time and sea-sons, has Himself risen from the sleep of death and now lives a new life. We are reminded by nature that God has created us,

not for death, but for life; and not only life, but life in abun-dance. We share in this New Life by being plunged into the

Life of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit in Baptism. It is in this Sacrament that we, “Die with Christ and Rise with Him to a New Life.” This brings us a joy that is eternal, one that not even the coldest, darkest day of winter can take away. Yes, Christ is Risen, Alleluia! May this season of Grace bring us

closer to the Risen Lord so that we, too, can take His presence into the world and through our acts of kindness and love, we can bring Christ’s Light into the darkest places of our world. On behalf of Father Patricio Aborde, our Parochial Vicar, our

Parish Staff and me, Father Lawrence Manchas, we wish you a

very Holy and Blessed Easter Season. May the Joy God gives

us at this time fill your hearts with a peace that the world can-

not give, and “hope that will not leave us disappointed,” as we

celebrate God’s Love through His Risen Son, Jesus.

Father Lawrence Manchas

LITURGICAL ROLES

THIS WEEK

The Lord’s Laughter

“A joyful heart is a good medicine, but a broken spirit

dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22

Our nephew was getting married to a doctor's daughter. At the wedding reception, the father of the bride stood to read his toast, which he had scribbled on a piece of scrap paper. Several times during his speech, he halted, over-

come with what I'd assumed was a moment of deep emo-tion. But after a particularly long pause, he explained, "I'm

sorry. I can't seem to make out what I've written down." Looking out into the audience, he asked, "Is there a

pharmacist in the house?"

What did the sheep say to his fiancée? “I love ewe.” Why do kings have royal seals?

Because royal hippos eat too much.

WEEKLY MASS SCHEDULE

"Then they went

away quickly from

the tomb, fearful yet

overjoyed." The two

Marys were in for a

surprise. They had

come, as usual, to do

the ritual anointing of

their dead friend's

body. But on their arrival, not only was there an earth-

quake, there was also an angel whose "appearance was like

lightning" and whose "clothing was white as snow." The

brave guards were so scared they "became like dead men,"

but the women managed to stay on their feet and hear the

words of the angel. Guess what! Jesus isn't here. He's been

raised from the dead. Now go share the good news!

No wonder these women were feeling a mixture of emo-

tions! They were frightened by these incredible supernatu-

ral events, but overjoyed that Jesus was alive again. Just

imagine their joy when "Jesus met them on their way," and

they were able to embrace him and worship him. What a

day!

Now, we too join in the celebration of this day of all days.

Every Easter, we recall these glorious events, but we do

more than just remember. We also rejoice that our Lord is

alive right now, that death and sin have been conquered

forever, that the gates of heaven are open for us. The joy of

Easter is not a nostalgic kind of happiness that only looks

backwards. It is instead a call to rejoice in the gifts that we

can enjoy today and in eternity.

We may not have seen the angel, felt the earthquake, or

kissed the feet of the risen Lord, but we are nonetheless the

beneficiaries of this momentous event. We are an Easter

people, a people in the hands of a loving God whose power

can overcome all the terrible threats and trials of existence

with the amazing gift of eternal life.
