Dear Friends,

Time keeps flying by! Fortunately, we have plenty of ways to hold on, to keep our balance in anxious times. This month we are reminded to reach for Our Lady’s hand by praying the Holy Rosary. I encourage—I exhort—each of you to take up the Ro-sary daily. Allow the saving Mysteries of Jesus to guide your approach to life.

This Saturday evening we will have a special prayer moment. It isn’t for everyone, because it will be outside and in the evening, but we hope to make it accessible online. We will honor Our Lady with a procession and Our Lord with a time of praise and Adoration this Saturday at 7pm. Be reminded that the Saturday evening Mass is returning to its usual time of 6:00 PM.

Last week Pope Francis issued a new Encyclical Letter called Fratelli Tutti (On Fraternity and Social Friendship). As we try to take our rightful place as believers in this world I invite you to reflect on this passage from the (long) Encyclical I am still working through:

77. Each day offers us a new opportunity, a new possibility. We should not expect everything from those who govern us, for that would be childish. We have the space we need for co-respon-sibility in creating and putting into place new processes and changes. Let us take an active part in renewing and supporting our troubled societies. Today we have a great opportunity to express our innate sense of fraternity, to be Good Samaritans who bear the pain of other people’s troubles rather than foment-ing greater hatred and resentment. Like the chance traveller in the parable, we need only have a pure and simple desire to be a people, a community, constant and tireless in the effort to include, integrate and lift up the fallen. We may often find ourselves succumbing to the mentality of the violent, the blindly ambitious, those who spread mistrust and lies. Others may con-tinue to view politics or the economy as an arena for their own power plays. For our part, let us foster what is good and place ourselves at its service.

¡El tiempo vuela! Afortunadamente, tenemos muchas formas de afianzarnos, para mantener el equilibrio en tiempos de ansiedad. Este mes se nos recuerda que debemos tomar la mano de Nues-tra Señora rezando el Santo Rosario. Los animo —los exhorto— a cada uno de ustedes a tomar el Rosario diariamente. Permitan que los misterios salvadores de Jesús guíen su enfoque a la vida.

Este sábado por la noche tendremos un momento especial de oración. No es para todos, porque será al aire libre y en la noche; sin embargo, esperamos que pueda ser transmitido en línea. Honraremos a Nuestra Señora con una procesión y a Nuestro Señor con un tiempo de alabanza y Adoración este sábado a las 7 pm. Recuerden que la Misa del sábado por la noche regresa a su horario habitual que es a las 6:00 PM.

La semana pasada el Papa Francisco emitió una nueva carta en-cíclica llamada Fratelli Tutti (Sobre la fraternidad y la amistad social). Mientras tratamos de ocupar el lugar que nos correspon-de como creyentes en este mundo, los invito a reflexionar sobre este pasaje de la (larga) encíclica en la que todavía estoy leyendo:

77. Cada día se nos ofrece una nueva oportunidad, una etapa nueva. No tenemos que esperar todo de los que nos gobiernan, sería infantil. Gozamos de un espacio de corresponsabilidad capaz de iniciar y generar nuevos procesos y transformaciones. Seamos parte activa en la rehabilitación y el auxilio de las sociedades heridas. Hoy estamos ante la gran oportunidad de manifestar nuestra esencia fraterna, de ser otros buenos sa-maritanos que carguen sobre sí el dolor de los fracasos, en vez de acentuar odios y resentimientos. Como el viajero ocasional de nuestra historia, sólo falta el deseo gratuito, puro y simple de querer ser pueblo, de ser constantes e incansables en la labor de incluir, de integrar, de levantar al caído; aunque muchas veces nos veamos inmersos y condenados a repetir la lógica de los violentos, de los que sólo se ambicionan a sí mismos, difusores de la confusión y la mentira. Que otros sigan pensando en la política o en la economía para sus juegos de poder. Alimente-mos lo bueno y pongámonos al servicio del bien.

During these days when Holy Communion isn’t possible please adopt the traditional and fruitful practice of praying a Spiritual Communion Prayer.

An ideal practice is to make this prayer when you are meditating on the readings from the Mass of the Day or watching it on TV or online. Mass readings can be found at www.usccb.org.

Confessions are being heard in the meeting rooms down the hall to the right of the main entrance to the church in Rooms 8, 9 and 10. We are using these rooms so that the prescribed social distancing rules can be observed for your protection and ours.

Las confesiones están siendo escuchadas en las salas dere-uniones 8, 9 y 10, ubicadas en el pasillo a la derecha de la entrada principal de la iglesia. A brief Communion Service will be offered on the courtyard at 9:00 am Monday-Saturday and at 10:00 am on Sundays.

All baptisms and baptism classes are back on schedule. They will require the same guidelines and restrictions for social dis-tancing as attending Mass at St. Anthony. Call the parish office between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Baptism dates and registration forms are available on our parish website under the “Sacraments”

October is traditionally observed in the Church across the United States as Respect Life Month. During this month, we pause and give thanks for the gift of human life.

This year’s theme, “Live the Gospel of Life,” reminds us that authentic discipleship means choosing to see and serve Christ in all people, especially the unborn, the aged, the infirmed, the poor and the most vulnerable. May we continue to spread the Gospel of Life through the witness of our lives and always seek to do our part as God’s holy family to proclaim consistently and courageously his truth in love.

This year, we also have the opportunity to take direct action in supporting the unborn and vulnerable by bringing our convictions with us into the voting booth. By participating in the political process as faithful citizens, we can give voice to the voiceless and remind our society that life is the foundation upon which all other rights are based.

We know that many suffer the pain caused by abortion. Especially at this time, I invite anyone who might be suf-fering the agony and aftermath of abortion to join our confidential Project Rachel ministry so that they may move forward with hope and healing.

Strengthened by our prayer, together in the light of Christ, I ask Mary our Mother to keep us all under her mantle as we seek to live the Gospel of Life with hope and joy.

Octubre se ha observado tradicionalmente en la Iglesia de todos los Estados Unidos como el Mes del Respeto a la Vida. Durante este mes, nos detenemos a dar gracias por el don de la vida humana.

El tema de este año, Vive el Evangelio de la Vida, nos recuerda que el discipulado auténtico significa ver y servir a Cristo en todas las personas, sobre todo en los niños por nacer, las personas de edad, los enfermos, los pobres y los más vulnerables. Sabemos que muchas personas sufren el dolor causado por el aborto. Particularmente en este momento, invito a quienes podrían estar sufriendo la agonía y las secuelas del aborto a unirse a nuestro ministerio confidencial del Proyecto Raquel para que puedan seguir adelante con esperanza y sanación.

Fortalecidos por nuestra oración, juntos en la luz de Cristo, le ruego a María, Nuestra Madre, que nos cubra a todos con su manto mientras tratamos de vivir el Evangelio de la Vida con esperanza y alegría.
