An autumnal greeting to all: I’ll always make an excuse to use the word “autumnal,” as often as I can. This past Friday, October 13th, marked the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima; a celebration of the “Canticle of the Sun.”Our Lady of Sorrows beside Her Suffering Son Who also blessed the crowd. Finally the children saw Our Lady of Mount Carmel with the Infant Jesus upon Her knee.

October 13th was a very rainy day. Yet this did not keep believers and non-believers from coming to witness the miracle the Lady had promised. Some estimated the crowd at around 70,000. The Lady came at noon and Lucia asked Her, "What do You want of me?" She responded, "I want to tell you to have them build a Chapel here in My honor. I am the Lady of the Rosary. Let them continue to say the Rosary every day. The war is going to end, and the soldiers will soon return to their homes." Lucia asked Our Lady if She would grant some requests given to her by the people. Our Lady said, "Some yes, others no. It is necessary that they amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins. Let them offend Our Lord God no more, for He is already much offended." As Our Lady ascended from their sight She opened Her Hands and pointed toward the sun. The children then saw in the sky three tableau of the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. Then the Holy Family appeared. St. Joseph and the Infant Jesus blessed the crowd three times. Next only Lucia saw Our Lady of Sorrows beside Her Suffering Son Who also blessed the crowd. Finally the children saw Our Lady of Mount Carmel with the Infant Jesus upon Her knee.

The crowd, on the other hand, saw something very different. The people stared at the sun which started dancing in the sky. Then it whirled rapidly, emitting flames of fire which reflected many different colors upon the earth. Finally, it appeared to be plummeting from the sky toward the crowd which frightened the people very much. Some thought it was the end of the world. Then the sun reversed its direction and returned to its normal position in the sky. As the people regained their senses they noticed still another miracle. Although it had been a very rainy day now the ground and even their clothes were dry. A few things to catch-up on…This past summer, through the generosity of current and former parishioners, we were able to receive and install new playground equipment for our primary age school students. I visited the grounds last week, as our PreK-4 through Kindergarten students were there. It took me back to when I used to play in Tacony Park, on Torresdale Avenue. Of course, our equipment now is much safer (and, a lot more fun☺☺ ). Last Thursday, in Church, we had a Mass for the installation of new officers for our school. Along with the very good and qualified Student Council Officers, the following group leaders were installed: Homeroom Representatives, Safety Patrol, Peer Helpers, Ambassadors, and Altar Server Officers. Thank you to Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Smith who oversaw the election/selection process and the presentation ceremony. Enough for now. May Our Lord continue to bless you and your families. Our Lady of Fatima, Pray for Us. Anselm is Awesome! -Fr. Chiriaco

Legion of Mary

Will you welcome Mary into your home?

Are you willing to have the pilgrim Virgin Statue visit your home as your guest for one week? She is a perfect house guest. She wishes only to help and assist you and bring you the peace of her son (delivered by a pair of Legionaries to your home). Be part of a beautiful tradition of welcoming Our Lady into your home so that she might pray with you, for you and for your family and friends. To schedule a week’s visit by the Pilgrim Virgin or for more information, contact Joe Elitz, 215-637-7364. (Sponsored by the Legion of Mary. No donation required). Friendly warning: if you invite Mary into your home, be prepared for the blessings to follow. If she visited you in the past, she would be glad to revisit you again.

Churches & Cheese Steaks

All high school CYO members are invited to join Fr. Cavara on today, following the Noon Mass. We will travel by bus St. Agnes Church (home parish of Father Cavara and Father Dunleavy), Sts. Simon and Jude Church, and the Pepper Mill where we will enjoy cheesesteaks! We will return by 7:00 PM. Interested? Meet Father in the school parking lot following Mass.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED St. Anselm Prayer Garden Clean-up

All Souls Day – November 2nd 7:00 PM Mass

Special Commemoration of our Deceased Parishioners

A special commemoration will be offered on All Souls Day, Thursday, November 2nd, for those who have died this year and were buried from Saint Anselm Church. We will also pray for all who are listed on the All Souls envelopes. An altar of remembrance for those who died this past year will be set up on the altar in the back of Church. Remembering Deceased Police Officers, Firefighters and Paramedics... Saint Anselm Church has a very nice custom of commemorating those police officers, firefighters and paramedics who died in the line of duty or by other causes. Anyone who would like one of these persons prayed for by name is asked to call the Parish Center. A commemoration of these people will be done during the 8:30 AM Mass on Thursday, November 2nd.

Remembering Our Deceased Loved Ones

Throughout the month of November, we remember in prayer our deceased loved ones. A Memorial Shrine has been set up on the altar under the statue of our Blessed Mother. The Book of the Dead lists the names of those parishioners from the last seven years who have died and whose funeral liturgies were in our Church.

On the envelopes are the names submitted to us by parishioners. Please remember all in your prayers and good works. Through the mercy of God, may each and every one of our deceased loved ones be graced with new life in heaven.
