In This Together - If, after having attended a Sunday Mass, you have a positive COVID test, please contact our parish office immediately so that

we may post this information on our parish social media. We will not share your name with anyone; however, we will inform our parishioners that a person who tested positive for COVID was in attendance at that particular Mass the previous weekend.

INDEPENDENCE DAY – We will celebrate Mass this Friday (July 3) at 9:00 AM in Chapel. We ask you to help us prepare to receive you warmly

and safely by observing our Covid-19 method for reserving seats for Mass. At 2:00 PM this Monday (June 29) the reservations for our July 3rd Mass will go live on our parish homepage or you may phone the parish office (610-933-3732) to secure seats.

PARISH OFFICE – Our Parish Office will be closed on Fridays through Labor Day.

SPECIAL COLLECTION - Next weekend our special collection will support the Catholic Campaign for

Human Development. Forty million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs that empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to bring permanent and positive change to their communities. Learn more about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at www.usccb.org/cchd/collection. St. Ann Pantry - We want to thank all those who have made financial donations to St. Ann’s Pantry which is helping almost 100 households a month. Your generosity has been overwhelming. At this time, though, we ask that you hold back a bit on such financial contributions until we “spend down” the pantry’s current financial surplus. In a few months as our current funds are depleted we will once again request financial donations to help with this ministry. That said, we still need your material donations to continue to assist our

SUNDAY MASSES – Today we add a third Sunday Mass as we resume the 11:30 AM Mass each week. From now through Labor Day this Mass will be celebrated in

Spanish. Today we welcome Bishop Deliman to our 11:30 AM Mass on a pastoral visit that had already been scheduled months ago.

WHAT’S NEXT, TICKETS? In the interest of hospitality and safety I made the decision to ask people to help us prepare for Sunday Masses by letting us know they are coming. I wanted

to avoid a situation where we turn people away at the doors of Chapel because we have exceeded public health restrictions. My thinking has been that this method is safer and more dignified, but this may not be your experience. If not, would you please let me know by contacting Madelyn Howard at [email protected] or 484-302-5705?

WOULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME? – In the midst of a fluid and far-from-settled situation I am trying to assess how our current Mass schedule is meeting the needs of our

parishioners. As of last week we had 85 people at our 4:30 PM Vigil Mass and 75 at our 9:30 AM Mass on Sunday. We are finding (because families and house-mates can sit more closely together) that we can safely accommodate about 90 worshippers per Mass. One question is whether our members are choosing to avoid crowds for their own well-being and, if so, are our current number of seats sufficient for now? Another question is how many of our members want to worship but cannot procure a seat and/or feel turned off by our request for pre-registration for Sunday Mass? (These questions will be emailed to everyone who is registered on Flocknote. Please help me, but replying to the survey. Thank you.)

Sacrament of Penance - Our normal schedule for Confessions will resume on Tuesday July 7. Confessions

will be heard each Tuesday after the 8:00 AM Mass and each Saturday from 3:15 to 4:00 PM. Until further notice Confessions will be heard on the front porch of 602 S. Main Street (next to Chapel).

Donations can be placed in the bin on the front porch of the parish office (502 S. Main St). For information contact Michelle Giffroy-Rossi (610-283-1515) or Jack McKeon (610-283-1311)

Caring for Friends (formerly Aid for Friends) is a wonderfully simple program connecting meal providers with those suffering from food insecurity. Our Caring for Friends freezer will be available as it always had been in the back room of 602 S.

Main Street on Saturdays from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and on Sundays from 7:00 AM through 1:00 PM. For information contact Kate Commiskey at call (610) 933-3814 or [email protected]

MEALS FOR SENIORS – Shelf-stable meals for Seniors (age 60+) are available for home delivery through the Phoenixville Senior Center (153 Church ST). For more

information contact Joann McCracken at [email protected] or call 484-262-9127. You can stop delivery anytime but it is suggested that you consider storing some meals for possible future food shortage.

The Chester County Food Bank sponsors Fresh2U program which brings fresh affordable produce to several sites in our county from June

through November. The PHX site is the parking lot on Church Street between Senior Center and the Clinic on from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM on Wednesdays.

“EASY TO DO GOOD” – We are blessed to have so many ways by which it is easy to do good in our community. In addition to our

parish ministries we invite our members to consider volunteering through, for example: The Senior Center, PACS, Orion, the Clinic, Alianzas and the meals at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Additionally, we are blessed through our shelters: A Baby’s Breath, The House, St. Mary’s and Good Samaritan.

Emmaus Ministry – Summer/Fall 2020 During this difficult time of COVID-19, the St. Ann Emmaus Bereavement Ministry and the Nourish/Emmaus Caregivers Ministry would like to offer its support to anyone who is in bereavement or is taking care of a loved one who is ill. Normally, these two ministries offer in-person assistance through weekly small–group meetings for listening, mutual support and prayer. However, due to the current pandemic, we are unable to operate as we normally would, and this may cause our parishioners to feel isolated and overwhelmed. In order to move forward creatively during this time, the Emmaus team would like to offer support by phone to those who are currently in need of such assistance. If you have lost a loved one or are in a caregiving situation and would like someone to contact you by phone, please reach out to the contacts listed below and we will set up a time to talk.

OFFICE of the ARCHBISHOP

June 27, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

"Caring for the poor is not just something nice the Church does; it's a part of who we are and essential to the Church's saving work." (Bishop Jaime Soto, Chairman, CCHD Subcommittee, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops)

These words from my brother Bishop Soto express well our solidarity with the poor as essential to our identity as followers of Jesus, who was born of humble origins, worked as a manual laborer, and identified with the poor and marginalized people of his day. As missionary disciples of Christ in our own day, we are called to be genuinely concerned for the well-being of our brothers and sisters who lack the basic necessities which everyone deserves in order to live a full and dignified human life.

With that calling of our Lord in mind, I enthusiastically welcome your support of our annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), which this year commemorates 50 years of concretely assisting poor and disadvantaged members of our local communities. CCHD is the domestic anti-poverty program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops, and works closely with dioceses across the country to support low-income community groups to address the root causes of poverty. By helping those who are poor and powerless to participate in decisions and actions that affect their lives, CCHD offers a hand up, not a hand out, helping the most vulnerable members of our communities.

In our country today, nearly 47 million people are living in poverty, which is one of every six Americans, and one of every five children. This growing gap between those who are financially secure and those who are not now includes many middle-class families who have been adversely impacted by the economic consequences of the current pandemic. More than one in four residents in our region now suffers from insecurity about their income, food, or health care. These brothers and sisters of ours need the collective efforts of all of us who care enough to make a difference. Through CCHD, the Catholic Church reaches out to involve and support people in acting together to improve their own lives, overcome injustices, and escape the cycle of poverty. As Catholics, we are called to stand with them and be their advocates as they strive to achieve living conditions worthy of their inherent God-given human dignity.

The annual CCHD collection in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will occur at masses on the weekend of July 411 and 5th• Your contribution will help your neighbors near and far to realize a better future for themselves and their families. God bless you for your generous response to this year's CCHD appeal.

Gratefully and with best wishes in Jesus Christ,

+Most Reverend Nelson J. Perez, D.D.
