ONE AND THREE AT THE SAME TIME

Everybody is in awe before the great fervor of our two-parish community to celebrate the solemnity of Pen-tecost. The novena to the Holy Spirit at Saint Angela’s and the prayer Triduum at Saint Matthew’s truly were great moments of faith and devotion and also of for-mation regarding the gifts of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Actually, through the celebration of the Paschal Mystery we have seen at work the three Persons of the Divine Trinity: the Father who took the initiative to save us, the Son who realized the work of salvation by his works, especially his death and resurrection; and finally the Holy Spirit who was sent by the Father and the Son to complete Christ’s work of salvation by sanctifying us. Our God is essentially Father, Son and Holy Spirit. That’s what we profess every Sunday in the Creed. Our faith is Trinitarian. We believe in a God who is at the same time one and three. In God three persons who are different live in perfect harmo-ny and unity. How about us? Can we live in peace and harmony when we are different? Can we accept one another when our views are different? The unity of God is not uniformity, but it welcomes difference or diversity. God created us diverse: diversity of cultures, of tongues, skin colors, etc. Diversity is not something bad with which we are obliged to cope. Diversity is something deeply good; it is the gift of God who, in his essence, is unity and community. Diversity is not divi-sion. The feast of the Holy Trinity invites us not only to tolerate but to welcome, to praise and to bless differ-ences. While we are different we have to find a way to get along, to respect and to appreciate one another. The future of our families and societies, the future of our world depends on that. The solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity calls each of us to pray and to build such a world. Jesus made it the matter of his priestly pray-er: “that they may be one, Father, as we are one.” Fr. LA FETE DE LA SAINTE TRINITE:

La Trinité est au cœur de la foi chrétienne. Ce mot savant, qui pourtant ne figure pas dans la Bible, a servi depuis le 3ème siècle à préciser notre foi. Il désigne ce qu’a de parti-culier le monothéisme chrétien par rapport au monothéisme juif ou musulman. En effet tout comme les juifs et les mu-sulmans, les chrétiens croient qu’il n’y a qu’un seul Dieu. Mais le monothéisme chrétien n’est pas monolithique ; il fait place à l’Autre parce que Dieu est, avant tout, Amour. Si Dieu est amour, il n’est pas solitaire mais il n’est pas non plus divisé. Dieu est tellement amour qu’il fait trois. Trinité dans l’Unité, Unité dans la Trinité. La foi chrétienne affirme que Dieu est capable d’engendrer sans pour autant se dé-faire ; Il est capable de se donner sans pour autant s’ap-pauvrir ; Dieu est capable de se distribuer sans pour autant s'épuiser. En Dieu une seule nature divine est partagée par trois personnes coéternelles et égales entr’elles. L’Eglise faite de pluralité et d’unité, est appelée à devenir le miroir de cette Trinité. .June 16 ~ Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity The Most Holy Trinity is a Mystery of our faith, a mystery not to solve, but to believe in. Three Persons in One God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. While we cannot fully under-stand this mystery, we can be confident that the Spirit will guide us to all truth. This week use today’s gospel accla-mation in prayer asking for deeper understanding of the mystery of the Trinity: “Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; to God who is, who was, and who is to come.”

Cette vision trinitaire est présente dans l'évangile de Jean que nous lisons aujourd'hui, où le Fils parle à ses disciples du Père et de l'Esprit de vérité. Se donner est un risque tout aussi grand....Peut-être plus? Non pas donner ce que l'on a, mais ce que l'on est.
