Dear Parishioners,
By now most of the parish has seen the beauty
the new wooden aisle has added to our church. How-
ever, it is not only a visual beauty that has been added.
Another addition to our worship is the beauty of a
much more enthusiastic singing of the hymns and a
much more robust sound in the praying of the “Our
Father”. Hard surfaces always add a much more
energetic sound to music and the spoken prayer in our
worship. As a result of this change the biggest choir in
the parish - the Congregation - is participating with
much more energy.
Speaking of “choirs”, it is that time of the year
that I make my usual plug for new membership in the
choirs in the Loft of the Church. Because of retire-
ments and illness our membership of the Adult Choir
has dropped considerably. I am asking that you con-
sider joining the Adult Choir which rehearses on
Thursday nights and sings at the 10:30 am Sunday
Mass. Only requirement is that you can maintain a
pitch.
Our children’s choir rehearses on Thursday
afternoons from 4:00 to 4:45 pm and sings at the
9:00 am Mass on Sundays when the Religious Classes
meet. The Sunday night Mass has a Musical Group
that is led by Jacqueline Alworth. All inquiries con-
cerning any of these groups can be made by contacting
me at 973-226-0221 x19.
Hoping to hear from you soon.

St. Aloysius Parish Mission Statement
St. Aloysius Parish is a Roman Catholic
community dedicated to celebrating the life and
word of Jesus Christ. All are welcome to deepen
their spiritual and personal lives through active
participation in weekly Liturgy, the celebration of
the Sacraments, Parish ministries and community
activities. Acknowledging our incompleteness and
our need for God’s grace, we commit ourselves,
through Baptism, to responding to God’s call to
become and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ in
our time. Jesus Christ is at the center of all of our
lives.

MAGNIFICAT is that wonderful Catholic movement
that provides week day meditation and liturgical helps throughout
the year. Magnificat is celebrating its 25th anniversary on
October 6, 2018, at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY. Great
preachers, superb music and a full day of celebration is planned.
For info, email: [email protected].
Our parish always has a supply of low-gluten commun-
ion hosts for those who are so challenged. Please notify priest
celebrant in sacristy or call ahead to receive a low-gluten host.
Our Parish Council has worked very hard to make
today’s Parish Picnic a good parish day for everyone. Hope to
see you there today.
Two weeks ago, the Sunday Gospel ended with St.
Pater’s question: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the
words of eternal life.” That’s a reason to stay Catholic, to make
every effort to purify and reform the Church as an institution, so
that the Church can be the credible witness to our Lord who alone
offers us the words of eternal life.
We have to wrestle with the questions: why has this sin
been going on? what are we to do about it now? How do we
handle our anger and disgust at this time and not lose sight of our
faith and trust in Jesus Christ?
May I quote George Weigel in a recent article? He
wrote:
“The Catholic Church is such a large, fascinating,
complex and storied institution, and Catholic life is so focused
on institutions like parishes, schools and hospitals, that its easy
for serious Catholics to lose sight of something quite basic:
Catholics aren’t - or shouldn’t be - at Mass on Sunday because
they admire the pope of the day, or the local bishop, or their
pastor. Catholics come to Mass on Sunday to hear what we
believe to be the Word of God in Scripture and to enter into what
we believe to be communion with God because of Jesus Christ.
Friendship with Jesus Christ is where Christianity
begins. To learn from Christ and to be fed by him in holy com-
munion is the primary reason for Catholic worship. If Catholics
lose sight of that, the awfulness that has come to light about some
people of the Church, at all levels of Catholic life, can cause what
might seem at first blush a crisis of faith.
Yet much as I share the anger and disgust of my fellow
Catholics over what has resurfaced these past months, I’d suggest
to those imagining themselves in a crisis of faith that they’re
experiencing something different: a challenge to understanding
what the Church really is. As the Second Vatican Council taught
in the first sentence of its most important document, the Church,
first and foremost, is about Jesus Christ; trust in the institutions of
the Church follows from that. And when trust in the Church as
an institution is broken - as it has been so many times over two
millennia - it’s important to refocus on the basis of Catholic faith,
which is trust in Jesus Christ.”
God Bless each of you, dear parishioners.
Msgr. Desmond

Attention
Seniors
What exactly is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults?
The RCIA is the Catholic Church’s way of welcoming new members with enthusiasm and joy!
We invite you to discover and hear about the RCIA process
by attending our upcoming RCIA Gathering on
Sunday, September 30, 2018 at
10 AM in the Parish Center
Who should come?
• Unbaptized adults or adults baptized in another Christian tradition who would like
to explore becoming Catholic
• Baptized Catholic adults who want to be prepared for the celebration of
Confirmation and Eucharist
• Interested members of our parish community who want to share their faith with new
Church members
Why should you come?
• If you are inquiring about the Catholic faith, this is an opportunity to take a step to
explore the possibility of becoming part of the Catholic community through
Baptism.
• If you are a baptized Catholic and want to celebrate Eucharist and/or Confirmation,
this is the way to prepare for full initiation into our Church.
• If you are not Confirmed and wish to serve as a baptismal godparent, this is the way
to prepare for this spiritual endeavor.
• If you are a fully initiated Catholic, this is a way to meet inquirers and share your
love of Jesus and our Church with others.
If you know of someone in your family, neighborhood or workplace who may be
interested in hearing more about the RCIA, please share this invitation with them.
All are welcome!

DO YOU HAVE FIVE MINUTES A DAY?
DO YOU WORRY ABOUT
OUR WORLD TODAY?
We would like to invite you to become part of the
LIVING ROSARY. This activity was started at
Saint Aloysius Parish a number of years ago as a
means of joining our prayers together to pray for
peace in our country and for all our special
intentions. It is also in response to people’s needs for
greater spiritual growth. At this time we have several
teams of 5 members each participating in our living
rosary. It is a power house of prayer!
This activity may be taken on by anyone. Families
can participate, the home bound can become part of
the Living Rosary; persons on their way to work can
join also. There are no meetings to attend.
What is necessary to become
part of the Living Rosary is a
commitment to say one decade
of the Rosary each day. You
then become a member of a
team who together says the
entire rosary each day. It is said
for the intentions of those
members comprising the Living Rosary and for the
specific and special intentions of our parish. It can
be done at home, in the car, on the train, and any time
of your day.
The Rosary has been used for centuries for world
peace, against the heresy of the times, during the
Nazi occupation of Poland and at many other times.
This is a simple devotion, parish oriented, that
demands little of its members and produces great
spiritual results.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the
LIVING ROSARY. Please fill out the form below
and put it in the collection basket, drop it off at the
rectory or the parish center, or call Dee Taylor
at 973-226-0209 x 32. We will then contact you to
coordinate the groups and mysteries of the Rosary.
I am interested in becoming a member of the Living
Rosary:
