What coverages are currently available to Sail Canada members?

We partnered with Sail Canada to provide solutions to members who were having difficulty obtaining the coverage they required.

To get a better understanding of what is available let’s take a minute and look at each of these briefly.

Why are these coverages offered through Sail Canada?

This policy covers certified instructors and coaches registered with Sail Canada against third party bodily injury and property damage claims. Legal costs associated with defending claims are also covered.

Designed for individuals who may provide limited instruction to new sailors/students but are not operating as a business.

The coverage excludes any damage to property in the care, custody and control of the instructors

Instructor Liability Insurance

Not designed for instructors who are incorporated and operating as a sailing school

Not designed to provide protection to a yacht club, marina or sailing club that employs Sail Canada instructors teaching programs offered through the clubs.

Instructors Liability (cont’d)

Designed specially for Sail Canada members having trouble obtaining third party liability coverage for the on-water part of their general insurance program.

Covers your organization and its officers, directors, judges, sponsors, volunteers, employees and the race management team in the course of their duties on the water for any legal liability to third parties. This policy also pays for legal expenses.

On Water Regatta Liability Insurance

Designed for individuals or organizations hosting regattas who do not have this coverage under their current insurance program.

Not intended to replace the coverage normally obtained through a yacht club, sailing club or marina policy.

Provides affordable protection from third party liability claims arising from the operation of a Sailing School.

Designed to protect the business once an individual instructor makes the decision to incorporate a Sailing School.

Not designed to protect the yacht club, sailing club or marina that the sailing school may be operating from.

The coverages discussed above are available to Sail Canada members, but those coverages are not designed for Marina’s, Yacht Clubs or Sailing Clubs
