The planning and the initial preparations have now become activities and responsibilities. The time clock has started clicking and telling all of us to decide and act in the way we have to go to achieve our ambitions and aspirations. What is really important is to achieve the goals in the given time frame. I am confident that all of you would put in your best efforts and resources at your command to do ‘Service above Self’ to the needy and thereby enjoy Rotary and derive satisfaction. I am having a good personal interaction with the club leaders and my district team. I am delighted to notice the sincerity and enthusiasm expressed by the clubs to carry on with the rotary work. I am especially happy that all the clubs where I have attended have chalked out programmes as per my vision plan dovetailing the district projects. Projects like free heart surgery for children, helping children with Autism and special vocational centers are planned by some of the clubs. I am grateful for this. In order to BRIDGE CONTINENTS, as all of you are aware, we have planned organizing International nights coinciding with National festival of those countries. The first of such was organized as French Night. The response from the Rotarians for this night has been spontaneous. In fact I have received messages from my several counterpart Governors of France welcoming the novel event and lending support. SAMBANDHA, the ICGF on club service will be held on 8th August at Kanakapura. The programme has been meaningfully designed. Excellent fellowship and conventional rural games are being organised. Please participate in the ICGF. Lastly, I would like to thank the Rotarians who have registered as family patrons. The response has been overwhelming. The registrations are still open and I request more Rotarians to come forward and register. Best Wishes to all of you MN Suresh Sergeant-at-Arms ..............8 RI Pres. SAHASTA AUGUST2

I was delighted to see the large number of Rotarian's at the District Governor's installation. This really is

the reflection of the interest shown by all of you and indicated the help and support which the District Governor would get from you.

I have been accompanying the governor for club installation functions. The warmth and hospitality bestowed on us is remarkable. What a great way to become friends and partners in service.

Presidents of the clubs are planning excellent and extremely needed projects with enthusiasm and I notice young Rotarians taking greater initiatives.

This is a welcome sign and will make Rotary more visible.

I am enjoying my visits. It has been educating, interesting and a unique experience for me.

Thank you friends.

Yours in RotaryAnn. Srimathi

First Lady SpeakNow as the Rotary New Year begins, I wish you all of the prosperity which your good deeds merit.

May all things you ought to have be yours.

May your charities rank among your necessary expenditures.

May you not fall into the popular error of thinking that happiness is to be found in outdoing your neighbours.

May it always be yours to look beneath the veneer of life to the solid substance which lies beneath.

May you be builders, not mere climbers.

May you be able to appraise life's blessings at their real worth.

May you be free to act in accordance with the dictates of your own conscience and good judgement.

May you not be slaves to meaningless customs, social or otherwise.

May you shun the groove followers.

May you have vision to discern the right and health, strength and will to do it.

change in their lives. It is a stark contrast and a cause for concern.

Rotary has both a distinguished heritage and a bright future. My primary task as president is to enhance the vitality and viability of Rotary clubs and to enable them to succeed in the midst of societal changes. This is an important task because it is the clubs that address and alleviate the root problems of

society and thereby make the world a better place.

Wind of change was a new and significant phrase when I was a Rotary Scholar in South Africa in the early 1960s. It is serendipitous that the phrase that was first publicized in my host city of Cape Town is now applicable to Rotary as we contemplate the changes in society that dictate some corresponding changes in our organization. The phrase is now better known as winds of change.

We are currently enjoying a culture of innovation at Rotary International. We have the ability to look at all of our programs and practices to see if they can be improved, even as we steadfastly maintain our core values. I hope many Rotarians will take advantage of this opportunity to identify and implement improvements in their clubs and districts as well.

Rotary lives and breathes in our 33,000 clubs, and it is the clubs that improve lives by Building Communities – Bridging Continents. If we succeed in helping clubs to become Bigger, Better, and Bolder in the next year, then it will be clear that the best days of Rotary are still ahead. We are fortunate to be Rotarians! Together, we can make the world a better place!

Rotary Foundation WorkshopPDG Rajendra Rai, made a presentation, highlighting the Foundation activities and the growing contributions from our Dist in the recent years. In fact our Dist has received much more from the Foundation than our contribution, and we have done nearly 350 MG projects, using these funds. Bigger contributions to the Foundation will help us to take up BIGGER, BOLDER projects.

Our DRFC, PDG SK Sen and ADRFC PP Manjunatha Shetty spoke on methods of supporting the Foundation. Our DG MN Suresh announced support to the clubs to enhance their contributions.

Compact and well organized, this workshop, cleared many doubts to the club leaders, and are now ready to set new bench marks in Foundation programs this year.
