Promoting Safety (PS) Actions – 2007

Falls – Pre-Job Briefing Pays Safety Dividends!• Steve Miller - Mechanic. Steve observed a standing

water hazard that could not be removed while completing his Safe Job Briefing for a welding task. Steve modified the job set up to stay out of the water preventing a possible injury. Mike Tedesco, Lead Mechanic. – Alan Lewis

Frackville – Watchful Eye Prevents Chemical Leak!• While assisting with a sodium hypochlorite delivery,

PS Actions – 2007

Lassen – Engineering Away Back Strains!• Boyd Barney/Plant Operator: - Boyd recognized the need to

install a rail hoist to move oil barrels weighing about 500 pounds, both in and out of the oil storage containment area. This will eliminate the need for the staff to manually move the barrels eliminating potential back strains. A work order for this item including engineering (load capacity) has been submitted and Boyd is working up interim measures until the installation is complete. Boyd’s use of SOP helped him not only to identify the hazard, but to put measures in place to eliminate them. – Larry Lighthill/John Neil

Family Safety Day that will be held in the near future. For the event she has put together a family safety guide to be handed out to all attendees that includes a family emergency plan, family safety guide, disaster readiness, chemical and poison safety, fire safety, child safety and a safety checklist. Her intent is to carry safety awareness to the home as a part of SOP – Larry Lighthill/John Neil
