PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS God our Father, we thank you for calling men and women to serve in your Son’s Kingdom as priests, deacons, religious and consecrated persons. Send your Holy Spirit to help us respond generously and courageously to your call. May our community of faith support vocations of sacrificial love in our youth. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and every Amen.

Sacred Heart Parish Holy Hour Every Friday

Please join us for our Holy Hour each Friday 8:30-9:30AM

Advent: A Time of Preparation In the Catholic Church, Advent is a period of preparation, extending over four Sundays, before Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latinadvenio, "to come to," and refers to the coming of Christ. This refers to our celebration of Christ's birth at Christmas; to the coming of Christ in our lives through grace and the Sacrament of Holy Communion; and to His Second Coming at the end of time. Each week of Advent another candle is lit. The first purple candle lit is the Prophet's candle symbolizing Hope, reminding us the Jesus is coming. The second week of Advent another purple candle is lit, the Bethlehem Candle of Faith, reminding us of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem. On the Third Sunday of Advent we light the pink candle, the Shepherd's candle, symbolizing the Joy the world experiences at the coming birth of Jesus. On the fourth Sunday of Advent we light the final purple candle, the Angel's candle of Peace reminding us of the message of the angels: "Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men."

2015 Seminary Appeal Donations to this Annual Appeal enhance the many resources needed for priestly training. To donate online go to www.stcharlesseminaryappeal.org. Thank you for your generosity in helping to form holy, educated and dedicated priests.

Let us keep the following prayer in our

hearts and minds.

PRAYER OF SAINT CHARLES BORROMEO Almighty God, you have generously made known to us the mysteries of your life through Jesus Christ your son in the Holy Spirit. Enlighten my mind to know these mysteries which your church treasures and teaches. Move my heart to love them and my will to live in accord with them. Give me the ability to teach the faith to others without pride and personal gain. Let me realize that I am simply your instrument for bringing others to the knowledge of the wonderful things you have done for all your creatures. Help me to be faithful to this task that you have entrusted to me. Saint Charles Borromeo Pray for Us

1st Sunday of Advent As we begin Advent, we light one candle in the midst of all the darkness in our lives and in the world. It symbolizes our longing, our

desire, our hope. Three "advents" or "comings" shape our desire. We want to be renewed in a sense that Jesus came to save us from our sin and death. We want to experience his

coming to us now, in our everyday lives, to help us live our lives with meaning and

purpose. And we want to prepare for his coming to meet us at the end of our lives on

this earth.

Lily’s Gift Since 2103, the Office of Life and Family, Catholic Social Services and the Office for Persons with Disabilities have collaborated in a ministry to assist families who are faced with receiving a poor prenatal diagnosis of a disability or the possible death of their unborn infant. This ministry is called Lily’s Gift. It is a network of concerned parents and professionals who have experience or worked closely with issues surrounding poor prenatal diagnosis. Lily’s Gift can provide a peer support team to assist couples during this critical time. Www.LilysGift.org provides practical information and can be a vehicle for parents to request the spiritual and emotional support of trained peer companions. Currently, a fatal or poor prenatal diagnosis (PPD) is experienced by four or five percent of expectant parents. That number is expected to increase with the advancement of prenatal screening. Our efforts to let couples know that there is support and they are not alone in this experience can make a difference. For more information visit the website or contact Lily’s Gift, if you need assistance providing pastoral care for parents experiencing a prenatal diagnosis.

Lily’s Gift Pamphlets are available in our church vestibule.
