SOLEMNITY OF MARY, THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD
Not a Holy day of Obligation this year January 1, 2018 – 10:00 AM
Please join us on Friday, January 5th at 5:30 PM for a Sung Latin Mass in the Extraordinary Form (1962 Missal) in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This is the form of the Roman Catholic Mass which was celebrated prior to the reforms of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), and which returned to broader use in the Church with the permissions of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Rather than a homily, Father Johnson will give a brief explanation of the Mass prior to the start. * Following the Mass a reception will be held in Founders Hall to celebrate Fr. Philip’s 1st Anniversary of Ordination. All are welcome! Please RSVP if attending reception to Fr. [email protected]

Day of Recollection January 11, 2018 Women of Sacred Heart will hold their annual Day of Recollection on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Following Mass, Reverend Father Matthew Schroeder will deliver a presentation on the Eastern Rite Catholic Church. Members whose last name begin with the letters A through G are asked to bring desserts. Members whose last names begin with the letters H through Z are asked to bring sandwiches, salads and fruit or vegetable plates. The Coalition is in need of stew, pasta, pasta sauce and cereal. The Board will meet at 9:00 in room 8.
Urgent Need extended to all current Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist. We
are asking for some new volunteers to carry the Blessed Sacrament to the sick at the hospital and homebound
both at home and in Assisted Living Facilities . We would like to have two teams who can alternate and, due to health or age, our numbers have decreased. Are you willing to give one day a week on alternating months to visit these people? The blessings are many and the rewards are eternal.
Please call Mary Round at 910-295-1196 or Nancy Paulson at 910-295-6550, Ext. 125

SACRED HEART BULLETIN BOARD
Sacred Heart is creating a new Service Ministry centering on support for parish families who have recently lost loved ones and are planning Funeral Services here. We are actively searching for volunteers who are willing to assist families in their time of need. Opportunities would include: ♦ Attending Funerals to help guide and offer support to family and friends ♦ Assisting with Funeral Receptions (ie: baking cookies, set up etc.) ♦ Sending cards to families expressing our condolences and continuing support We are planning an informational meeting (time to be determined) for those expressing interest in this Ministry. If you would like to offer some time, please contact Sharon Landers at 910-639-2403.

“UNLOCKING THE MYSTERY OF THE BIBLE”
(It’s still not too late to sign up!) E-mail Paul at [email protected]
Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible helps you uncover the story woven throughout Scripture, so you can get the “big picture” of the Bible and understand what it’s all about. The complexity of the Bible is simplified through an easy-to-follow narrative approach, and ingenious color-coded Bible Timeline Chart. The study includes eight half-hour videos presented by Jeff Cavins. These engaging videos also feature footage from the Holy Land, animated maps, useful charts and graphics, and beautiful art, which add to the overall experience of the study. Each video will be followed by a lively group discussion. [See the flyer on the Faith Formation table for information on other “Winter Quarter” courses available!]
