Dear Partnering Parishioners, First Holy Communion Please remember Elizabeth N. Trask and her family, who will make her FIRST HOLY COMMUNION at the 4:00 P.M. Vigil Mass on Saturday, April 22, 2017. May she always desire to receive Jesus, the Bread of Life each and every Sunday and Holy Day and grow in His likeness every day. Do you remember your First Holy Communion Day? When was...where was it...and who said the Mass and gave you Holy Communion for the first time? Do you have still have your special prayer book and rosary? The day of our First Holy Communion was a joy-filled day! Celebrating this day for the children of our partnering parishes should bring back wonderful and holy memories. How are you keeping the joy of that day alive in your hearts today? May Elizabeth’s First Holy Communion Day renew our desire to always receive Our Lord with faith, reverence and joy! At St. Charles Borromeo Parish On this Sunday of Divine Mercy, we welcome the Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and Rector of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary to St. Charles Borromeo Parish. The purpose of his visit is to celebrate the 10AM Parish Mass and to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to a number of our Parish children. It is a great day for our children, their families, and for us! It is a privilege to have one of our Bishops preach and celebrate Holy Mass and to bring the Gift of the Holy Spirit to our children. Do you remember your Confirmation and who confirmed you? Perhaps, the Bishop’s visit with us can help you to recall and renew the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that you and I received when we were confirmed. The Holy Spirit never leaves us but accompanies us as we walk the journey of our Christian lives, doing good, avoiding evil, and bringing greater witness to our faith in Jesus Christ by the way we live our lives. Ask then Holy Spirit for the grace to live His seven-fold gifts and to bear the fruits of His presence in our lives that the Apostle Paul speak about in his letter to the Galatians 5:22-23: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. The Easter Season The fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost are celebrated in joyful exultation as on feast day, or better, as one “great Sunday” as stated by Saint Athanasius. Through our reflection on the Word of God proclaimed during each of the Sundays of the Easter Season, will can deep the mystery of the new life we first received at baptism, and each time we receive the sacraments, especially the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist at Holy Mass. I pray that the Holy Spirit will enable you to grow more into the likeness of Christ as we live and work to build the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. Today is Divine Mercy Sunday How did it get its name? At the canonization of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska on April 30, 2000, Pope John Paul II drawing on the insight from her writings that the “Feast of Mercy” should be instituted stated: “ It is important that we accept the whole message that comes to us from the Word of God on this Second Sunday of Easter, which from now on throughout the Church, will be called ‘Divine Mercy Sunday.’” “Peace be with you.” With these words, Jesus greets His disciples on the evening of that first day of the week according to the Gospel of Saint John. Then Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so I send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” Our Church always has seen this scripture passage as another scriptural proof of the institution of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Sacrament of God’s mercy and forgiveness. What is the message of Divine Mercy? The message of Divine Mercy is nothing new, just a reminder of what the Church has always taught: that God is merciful and forgiving and that we, too, must show mercy and forgiveness. But, in the Divine Mercy devotion, the message takes on a powerful new focus, calling people to a deeper understanding that God’s love is unlimited and available to everyone–especially the greatest sinners: The greater the sinner, the greater the right he has to My mercy ( Diary of St. Faustina, 723). The main elements of this devotion are trust and deeds of mercy. Here is a simple way to remember the message of Divine Mercy Sunday. Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. Be Merciful to Others. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. Completely Trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. Blessings of mercy, Monsignor George A. Majoros 092-3

Entrants are young professionals ages 18-25. To purchase tickets to the dinner, please contact Cathy Peacock at 610-785-6530 or email [email protected]. Office of Youth and Young Adults Renamed ANTHEM The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is pleased to announce that the Office of Youth and Young Adults has been officially renamed ANTHEM. The new name was chosen as a result of careful prayer, consideration, and market research to gauge what would appeal to contemporary youth and young adults. ANTHEM has its basis in the biblical story of David as well as a musical connotation. As the warrior who slew Goliath against all odds, the figure of David gives young people inspiration to face the challenges unique to their generation. In addition to being a warrior, David was also a poet who wrote the Psalms with an authentic heart of praise, speaking deeply to the connection music has for the faith life of young people. Music invites, unites, and speaks a universal language attractive to all. Mr. Jacob King, Director of ANTHEM said, "We want to bring millennials the authentic Church, filled with people like them dealing with issues relevant to today’s culture. The Church isn’t a set of rules; it’s a field hospital for all of us, the wounded. We hope this revival of ministry will knock down stereotypes and misconceptions that keep people away from where they belong."

7 Secrets of Diving Mercy
In 2000, Pope John Paul II canonized the great 20th century visionary of Divine Mercy, Sister Faustina Kowalska, and proclaimed the Sunday after Easter to be celebrated annu-ally as Divine Mercy Sunday. In 2006, Best-selling author Vinny Flynn continues his popular "7 Secrets" series with a book that brings him back to his roots. Vinny shows how Divine Mercy is not just another worthy "private devotion"; it is the key devotion, the umbrella devotion over everything else. He shows us how everything in our lives can become more meaningful, more powerful, more life-changing once we really embrace the gift of Divine Mercy — the overflow of love from the Holy Trinity. If you're not yet convinced of the impact Divine Mercy can have on your life, if you've never heard of this message and devotion, or if you're curious to learn more about it, this book is perfect for you. It shows us all how to respond to the call of Pope Francis "to live lives shaped by mercy", and benefit greatly from the "Year of Mercy".
