FROM THE PASTORS DESK: As we begin New Year 2020 here at Sacred Heart, I want to take this opportunity to let you know reassuring it is to me as your pastor that once again your wonderful support was so very noticeable during this Christmas season, highly talented and dedicated parishioners. Not only do we have much to be grateful during the month of December, for all the volunteers who helped decorate the displays for Our Feast

of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Advent, and Christmas, but helping make our Liturgical services beautiful. Not only am I grateful during December, but throughout the year for the countless hours our Lectors, Eucharist Ministers, Sacristans, Ushers, Choirs/Musicians, and Altar Servers who serve so well to make our liturgical celebrations beautiful and dignified. In addition, the volunteers who clean up after Mass and who freely launder the liturgical linens on a regular basis. Thank you for our various ministries: Food program, throughout the year to help feed those in need and making the delicious tamales, Money Counters, my staff, St. Vincent de Paul Chapter of Sacred Heart, QueensCare Nursing services, Prayer Group, Baptismal Preparation Coordinators, Office of Religious Education for the Posadas, as well as the catechists who teach the Faith to our children and adults, throughout the year. Thank you for your continued support to the Called to Renew campaign as well as Together in Mission and to the Parish Leadership Team helped coordinate. Thank you to the Sacred Heart Elementary School teachers as I wish them a well-deserved break and rest, as well as the students. Our mission is to continue to be one family united by our Catholic faith, and rooted in the Heart of Jesus from generation to generation that expressed in countless ways by those individuals who call this parish their spiritual home. DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PÁRROCO: Al comenzar el Año Nuevo 2020 aquí en el Sagrado Corazón, quiero aprovechar esta oportunidad para hacerle saber que, para mí, como pastor, es una vez más que su maravilloso apoyo fue tan notable durante esta temporada navideña, feligreses altamente talentosos y dedicados. No solo tenemos mucho que agradecer durante el mes de diciembre, por todos los voluntarios que ayudaron a decorar las exhibiciones

para Nuestra Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, Adviento y Navidad, sino que también ayudaron a embellecer nuestros servicios litúrgicos. No solo estoy agradecido durante diciembre, sino durante todo el año por las innumerables horas que nuestros lectores, ministros de la Eucaristía, sacristanes, ujieres, coros/músicos y servidores de altar que sirven tan bien para hacer que nuestras celebraciones litúrgicas sean hermosas y dignas. Además, los voluntarios que limpian después de la misa y que lavan libremente los linos litúrgicos regularmente. SALVATION IN DAILY LIFE This Sunday is the feast of the Holy Family, which comes on the first Sunday after Christmas Day. Today’s feast celebrates how the humanity of Jesus (including his entire family life) has brought saving significance into the daily rhythms of our human family life. The scriptures offer instruction and encouragement on how to share—within our families, parish families, and the wider human family—the love that God shares with us in Jesus. Selections from Sirach, Psalm 128, and Colossians encourage us to reflect divine love and thus find holiness in all our human relationships. The reading from Matthew’s Gospel offers a living example of love in the actions Joseph took to protect his young family from danger and to nurture them within the larger family of faith of their time.

SALVACIÓN EN LA VIDA DIARIA Este domingo es la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia que cae en el primer domingo después del Día de Navidad. La fiesta de hoy celebra cómo la humanidad de Jesús (incluso toda su familia) ha dado significado salvífico a los quehaceres diarios de nuestra propia vida familiar. For young children who may be grabby or touchy-feely, this can be a tough lesson to instill, but it sets the groundwork for a critical understanding of the word “no” and how to react to it. Remind children about their own boundaries, and the boundaries of others, and reinforce ways to express love and friendship while respecting those boundaries.
