WORLD MISSION SUNDAY In 1926 Pope Pius XI instituted Mission Sunday for the whole
Church. The Mission Sunday collection is always taken on the next
to last Sunday during the month of October. That day is celebrated
in all the local Churches as the feast of catholicity and universal
solidarity so Christians the world over will recognize their common
responsibility with regard to the evangelization of the world
NOVEMBER 2 & 3
ARCHDIOCESE FOR THE MILITARY SERVICES Currently, 285 Catholic military chaplains provide pastoral care to
over 1.5 million Catholics on ships, in combat, on bases and in 153
VA hospitals. The Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military
Services will fund their Co-Sponsored Seminarian Program, which
identifies vocations within the military and is now educating 30
men for the priesthood and subsequent military chaplaincy.

to the parish to assist us in our many needs. As of this date, we have
reached 80% of our goal in the amount of $19,634. This total is from
32 parishioners/families that have sent in their gift thus far. It is not

Mass Intentions for 2019 & 2020 The tradition of offering Masses for others, particularly the dead, originates in the very early Church.
Inscriptions discovered on tombs in Roman catacombs of the second century evidence this practice.
The epitaph on the tomb of Abercius (d. 180), Bishop of Hierapolis in Phrygia, begs for prayers for the repose of
his soul. In the Words of Our Saints:
St. Augustine (d. 430) recorded the dying wishes of his mother, St. Monica in his Confessions: “One thing only I
ask you, that you remember me at the altar of the Lord wherever you may be.”
Pope St. Gregory (d. 604) said, “Let us not hesitate to help those who have died and to offer our prayers for
them.”
Some things to keep in mind when scheduling a Mass for a loved one at Sacred Heart: ~ Mass Intention requests will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis in the order in which the Mass
Intention Request is received in the Parish Office.
~ $20 for weekend Masses and $10 for week day Masses is the stipend for each Mass requested and should
accompany the Mass request. However, no one will be denied a Mass Intention because of inability to pay.
~ Beginning in January of 2020, we will no longer have a First Friday Memorial Mass list. However, First
Friday’s are available to schedule a Mass Intention for a loved one .
~ Individual Mass Intentions will not be scheduled on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Easter Vigil and Easter Masses, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Masses as they will be an intention of all the Living and Deceased Members of the Parish.
The following dates are still available for the rest of 2019: October: Tues 22, Sat 26, Tue 29, Wed 30. November: Sun 3, Tue 5, Sun 10, Tue 12, Sat 16, Sun 17, Tue 19, Tue 26, Wed 27, Sat 30. December: Sun 1, Wed 4, Tue 10, Sat 14, Sun 15, Tue 17, Wed 18, Sat 21, Sun 29, Tue 31.
~Mass Intention Requests can now be made for the year 2020 by calling the church office or by filling out a Mass
Intention Envelope and dropping it in the mail or the collection basket. The envelopes can be found in the back of the
church.
