FOOD BANK

At last month's Food Bank work night, Paxton's eight hard-working volunteers, with help from a few others from another group, packed 415 boxes of groceries in an hour and a quarter. Tasks vary from month to month, but the camaraderie is always enjoyable and the staff is always appreciative of our efforts. A sign-up sheet for the March work night is posted in the Gathering Room. Whether you are a Food Bank "regular" or a first-time volunteer, please sign up and join us on Tuesday, March 18th, from 6 - 8 p.m.

LENTEN DINNERS

The Lenten season is upon us for 2014. Please join us for dinner and fellowship on March 12,19,26, April 2 and 9. The meal is simple and you do not have to cook for the family one night a week. Also, please consider signing up to prepare a meal,. March 19th is still open for someone to volunteer. You can do this as a family/friends or as a church group. The sign up sheet is on the bulletin board outside the office. Please join us for these meals and worship for a time of reflection before Palm Sunday and Easter Sun-day. Dinner is at 6:30 pm followed by a short wor-ship service.

MOTHER’S DAY CARDS

Mother's Day cards for USA Soldiers to use are ready to take home and make! Pick up your take-home packet today in the Gathering Room. We ship them out at the end of March. DONATE Blankets, flannel sheets, insulated drapes and mattress pads so THE SEWING CIRCLE can make warm street mats for the homeless! Ask your friends!

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Please join us for our Lenten Series in the Kirker’s room at 9am on the following Sundays….March

23, 30 and April 6 and 13.

HYMNOLOGY AND THEOLOGY

This Lent we will explore the meaning, stories, and theology behind some of the more famous hymns that are sung during Lent. Our focus will be the cross. The cross was not always the central symbol for Christianity as it is today. Why is that, because crucifixion was a most horrific type of death at the time. To honor a means of execution was unthinkable. It was only centuries later that the cross and Christianity were identified together. In our four week study beginning on March 23 and continuing through Palm Sunday our study will take us to the centrality of the cross, the heart of the cross, the achievement of the cross, and living under the cross. We will look at such hymns as: “Lift High the Cross,” “Beneath the Cross of Je-sus, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, “In the Cross of Christ I Glory,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “And Can it Be.” What do these hymns tell us about our faith? Please join me and let us find the answer. John Schmidt

PIE SALE

All orders for pies must be in today. Please spec-ify if you want double crust or crumb when order-ing fruit pies. The pies will be ready for pick-up on Wednesday, March 12. The time will be an-nounced when the order is placed with Deppens Farm. Thank you to everyone who attended the Hoss’s fundraiser. I earned $151.88 toward my mission trip.

People: Eating with sinners, He welcomes us. Leader: Guiding His children, He leads us. People: Visiting the sick, He heals us. Leader: Dying on the cross, He saves us. People: Risen from the dead, He gives new life. Leader: Therefore we praise You, joining our voices with choirs of angels and with

all the faithful of every time and place, who forever sing to the glory of Your name.

SANCTUS (Sung by Choir) Unison: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. Our father

who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the king-dom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

AGNUS DEI (Sung by the choir) THE WORDS OF INSTITUTION

THE COMMUNION

As we celebrate communion, we have the opportunity to serve one another. This reflects our belief in the priesthood of all believers. When you pass the tray to the person next to you, quietly say, “The body of Christ broken for you,” or, “The blood of Christ shed for you.” An appropriate response is simply, “Amen.” There should be no rush; take time to serve one another.

Bread: In silence, wait and receive together Cup: You may receive as you are served.
