“It is my recommendation that Marion Garza is one of San Antonio College’s Superhe-roes. Marion Garza works in Admissions and Records and does an outstanding job. She is friendly, informative, helpful and always willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. She helps anyone, faculty, staff, Administrators and students, get the job done. She is very comfortable to work with and knows her job and the jobs of the other staff. She has the kind of work ethic that anyone would want to model after.”

The Division of Student Affairs has held more than 8 Customer Service Trainings with over 49 staff
participating in at least one training session. To date, we have had 19 of our front-line staff graduate
from this training program. Dr. Robert Vela, Vice President of Academic and Student Success, visited
with both groups of graduates to discuss plans on creating a more service-centered culture at San
Antonio College. Participants had the opportunity to share with Dr. Vela some ideas they had for
improving customer service.
New training dates will be scheduled after the new year and communicated with the division via
email. It is the goal of the division to have 100% participation. Please contact Chaye Pena at x 61209
for more information about these trainings.
Below are the Student Ambassador Volunteer Hours completed this academic
year. Our Student Ambassadors work in the Web Center and assist student en-
rolling into San Antonio College. Mr. Dallas Evans, Lead Student Ambassador is
doing an extraordinary job at leading and training all new ambassadors. There
are currently 16 active Student Ambassadors and all are in the process of gaining
more knowledge to assist students.
In August, several Student Ambassadors were being asked to serve on college
committees. Last month, 5 ambassadors were invited to the Reina de Las Flores
Scholarship Luncheon. This month they will assist during the Honors Ceremo-
ny. Upcoming training will include Ambassador Basics, S.O.B.I., and Leadership
Activities.

A Message from the Vice-President of Academic and Student Affairs
Team,
I think it’s pretty safe to say that we have all experienced change in our lives. Some of us
view change as good and some of us view it as bad. I don’t think it’s necessarily the
change that’s good or bad, but rather how we respond to it. As many of you may know, I
now oversee Academic and Student Affairs for San Antonio College. This is a big change
for our division because for the first time in a long time, we have a Vice-President who is
representing both sides of the college. This change is a positive move for our division. We
have a clearer picture of what we need to help students achieve their success. Not half a
student, not just the academic part of a student, but the whole student. So much more is
involved in a student’s success than just their academic credentials to compete in today’s
world. They need leadership skills, time management skills, budgetary skills, organiza-
tional skills, and much more. Yes, some of these skills can be learned in a classroom, but
most of these skills are acquired through ‘outside the classroom experiences’. Through a
stronger collaboration between Academic and Student Affairs, we will remain steadfast to
provide students the experiences that will make them a fierce competitor on their path to
success.
Remember, change is what you make of it.
Keep up the excellent work,
San Antonio College
