Speaking at an event to celebrate the arrival of QF’s ninth domestic A330, Strambi also claimed that the airline’s strategy was working, saying that QF had “signed a number of major new corporate accounts over the past few months, many who had tried other airlines and returned to Qantas”. He touted the superior space and individual IFE offered by the QF product, and said Qantas transcontinental capacity was about 40% more than that operated by Virgin Australia. Strambi also highlighted the ongoing refit of QF’s 767 fleet with streaming iPad inflight entertainment - to be completed by Mar 2013 - and the launch of reconfigured Boeing 717 aircraft on the QantasLink network.     VIRGIN Australia and Qantas arefighting out a neck & neck battleto be the domestic leisure carrierof choice among Australians, butno-frills carrier Jetstar has seenthe largest gain in bookings. According to the latest RoyMorgan Air Travel Report for Oct2012, the nation’s biggest airlineswere separated by 0.4 percentagepoints for passengers on their lastdomestic holiday or leisure trip. At 38.8%, Virgin held the veryslight advantage. But Qantas’ low cost offshoot,Jetstar, is gaining ground in thelocal leisure market, with the newdata showing 36% of Aussies usedJQ, up from 32.5% in Oct 2011. “Virgin Australia is beingseriously challenged by theQantas group in the domesticleisure market,” said Roy MorganResearch Int’l director of tourism,travel & leisure, Jane Ianniello. “Jetstar has been able to growits share of the market by

Virgin was followed by Qantas,QantasLink, Jetstar and TigerAirways respectively in terms offavouritism, for the 12 monthsbetween Nov 2011 and Oct 2012. Singapore Airlines topped theCustomer Satisfaction survey forInternational Airlines with 90%,pipping Emirates, Air New Zealand,Thai Airways & Garuda Indonesia.

    Webjet wound up BRAZILIAN carrier Webjet, asubsidiary of GOL Linhas AereasInteligentes, was shutdown withimmediate effect on Fri. In announcing the decision, GOLsaid the Webjet business model,which consisted of aging Boeing737-300s equipped with out ofdate technology, were no longercompetitive. The winding up of the carrier’sactivities has resulted in 850 joblosses, including flight & cabincrew and maintenance personnel. Passengers booked with Webjetwill be offered alternative flightson GOL’s own flights. Its shutdown “will improveoperational efficiency as of 2013,”GOL said in a statement.

    ACCOR recently hosted a groupof 27 Infinity Holidays and FlightCentre consultants to a fun andinnovative video famil experienceacross Queensland, which wastitled the “Accor Getaways Show”. Split into 11 teams, the groupswere issued with video cameras,briefed on their assignments andset off to different parts of Qld intheir Europcar vehicles to capturedifferent parts of the state and asmany Accor properties as possible.
