The successful, field-proven42 m boom: now with the stabilizing system of the future.Coordination of load moment, structural weight and stabilizingwidth is a vital factor in large-boom truck-mounted concretepumps, determining onsitespace requirements. With con-

ventional designs, the neces-sary effective spans of 8 m ormore are dependent on foldingoutriggers. Unfolding thesetakes up considerable space,

a commodity in short supply ontoday’s confined sites. With this in mind, SCHWINGhas now upgraded its success-ful, field-proven standard boom, the KVM 42, with the modern

SX stabilizing system. Arc-shaped outriggers are locat -ed in longitudinal direction onthe vehicle frame, allowing

them to be longer. As they tele-scope on an orbital path, theyare extended laterally and for-ward simultaneously in thesame way as the linear X-stabi-lizer. The primary advantage

is that the stabilizers are posi-tioned parallel to each otherand not one above the other aswith the linear X-stabilizer. Thisis the only means of achieving

effective spans of 8 m or more. This layout also makes way fora lower structural height, leav-ing room for the installation ofpump assemblies with an extralong stroke. That accounts for

the other name given to thisstabilizing system:the Super-X stabilizer, in briefthe “SX”.

The opportunity to install pumpassemblies with a high maxi-mum output of up to 163 m 3 /hoffers the owner special bene-fits with a low stroke rate dur-ing the concreting operation,

meaning less wear, low fuel re-quirements, and a steady endhose during pumping. The heart of the concrete pumpis the Rock valve, a model of

pumping qualities, wear perfor-mance and operational de-pendability. The Rock valveand the integrated SCHWINGautomatic seal are patentedworldwide.

The SX stabilizer has also al-lowed the entire superstructureto be completely redesigned. It is now characterized by its

streamlining, its generousstowage space for the pumpaccessories, and smooth,large-area panel-work. In prac-tice this means:working safety and efficient,

fast cleaning of the entire su-perstructure. And even theunproblematic, operator-friend-ly 42 m placing boom with itssuccessful 4-section roll-and-

fold system excels itself withthis concept.

A structural concept that willhave a major impact on thedesign of large-boom concretepumps for many years to

come.

Pump mechanics know thefeeling. In many cases the idealworking position just isn’t onthe cards with large-boompumps. Confined sites, fences, walls, trees and so on preventthe front outriggers from beingunfolded. Such site conditionscease to be a worst-case sce-nario with the SCHWING SXstabilizing system, thanks to

Long-stroke pump battery In addition to the obviousadvantages in outrigger tech-nology, our SX pattern hasmade it possible to build a reallong-stroke pump battery into a

concrete pump. At SCHWING,that means a battery with 2.5 mstroke! In such a battery, the sweptvolume of each concrete cylin-der is so large that the max.pumping volume of 163 m 3 /hcan be achieved with only22 strokes. On every-day jobs, where theaverage output lies by roundabout 75 m 3 /h, the stroking ratedrops to an astonishing12 per minute. And that meanscorrespondingly low wear costsper m 3 of concrete pumped.

Technical harmony – theP 2525 H long-stroke batterycombined with the E-Rock.

Concrete flows from the 250 mmdiameter cylinders through thelengthened and widened Rockwithout any corners or bottle-necks and without energy-con-suming congestion.

The ROCK Standard, G-Rock or E-Rock?The standard Rock is theclassic valve that stands forefficiency and economy inconcrete pumping circles.

The G-Rock is the extendedversion of the standard Rockand is especially suitable fordifficult, stiff concrete mixes. The E-Rock is extended andwidened to become the ideal

complement for the long-strokebattery 2525 H with 250 mmconcrete cylinders. Carbidewear parts available on optionto provide even longer servicelives.

Radio remote control in combi-nation with proportional boomhydraulics for finger-tip easycontrol without overshooting.SCHWING MPS 2-circuithydraulics for concrete pumpensure quiet and fast shifting ofthe Rock and thereby keep theend hose nice and steady.

Loads of stowage room, fold-up steps, a lockable hopperhood, working lights andnumerous safety devices inthe CE version.

The standard version of amachine that has more to offerthan normal.

the telescoping front outriggers. This system not only makesfor short set-up times but canalso add decisively to theworking range of the placingboom.

After all, the closer you get,the greater the advantagesare!

The days are now past whereheavy slew/telescope outrig-gers took up not only room onthe jobsite, but also valuablespace on the concrete pump. One cylinder plus actuation foroutrigger slew. One cylinderplus actuation for telescoping. Two slider sections with theirfriction and wear areas. Andthat not to mention the weightconcerned! Now only one moving part isneeded – and thereforeonly one actuator. Even thehydraulic cylinder has disap-peared, to be replaced by alow maintenance high-performance cable pull.Naturally the multitude ofhoses, fittings and valves hasalso disappeared, along withthe tedious greasing of pinsand bushings.

The cylinder for the outriggerleg is fully protected insideits strong square tube. And thefoot plate is rigidly weldedonto the extension tube toeliminate any risk of it sl ippingor of the cylinder rod gettingdamaged.Clearly visible in the sketch isthe strong, full-length twinframe that conducts all boomand pump reaction forcessafely into the outriggers andthen into the ground. The one-piece stabilizer arms(front and rear) achieve a fur-ther goal by eliminating themid-way telescope points thatlead to undesirable machine“bounce”.The rear right-hand outrigger ispurpose designed as a watertank. The rear left arm can beequipped as a booster tank fordiesel fuel (optional).

S 42 SX: large boom pump with no foldingoutriggers at the front. Only 8.3 m stabilizing width.

Long-stroke pump battery and E-Rock –a new dimension in concrete pumping.
