Speaking Tips
● Make ample eye contact. ● Pause after every sentence to let the meaning of
your words sink in.● Avoid hyperventilation by pausing and breathing
in and other every time you hit a period or a comma in your sentence.

● Show expression.● Don't add filler words or sentences in your
speech.● End your speech by giving the audience
something to think about.● Try to use hand gestures (but not too often!).

● Focus on not rocking back and forth or playing
with clothing (both which are common issues).
● Bring a bottle of water and drink from it if you
can to avoid stammering.
● Enjoy and relax!

● Create a good powerpoint presentation that isn't too wordy.
● Engage the audience.
● Show expression so your audience won't get bored (especially if
you're talking about a technical topic).

● Make eye contact, pausing about two to three seconds, but not
more. (You don't want to make your audience uncomfortable).
● End with something meaningful.
● Remember, your audience is rooting for you!

● Rock back and forth or fiddle with jewelry or clothing.● Drone on and on in a monotonous voice.● End with something cliche.● Start the presentation with a cliche question or some introduction

1. Explain your report in a new light
2. Organize it in a logical fashion to show your thought process
3. Provide some background information about your topic/solution/research in
the introductory paragraph(s).
4. Use transitions to flow between paragraphs.

5. State your solution in the report and describe it!
6. Limit use of informal language.
7. Be creative with the journal.
8. Original work only!!! Do not plagiarize!
