WORSHIP GOD … GROW IN THE SPIRIT … SHARE GOD’s LOVE
Some 25 years ago, Our Risen Lord came together around a vision of ministry that was captured by an artist to depict how we RECEIVE and SHARE God’s love.
How does the next generation enter into that vision? How does the light shining through that window inspire us today?
On the Day of Pentecost “as we were gathered in one place” the Spirit moved among us to fill us with the promised Holy Spirit. What did we experience? What did our children see and hear?
Gazing at the window, here is what the youngest among us saw: Wheat …and grapes, …the bread and wine of communion and the bread we share every day at table. A dove, …remembering the dove that descended on Jesus as the Spirit descended on him at his baptism. -They liked the wings, like wings of angles. A flame … remembering the story they just learned about how tongues of fire landed on the disciples giving them the words to speak God’s love. Hands …They saw the various colors of each finger, inviting people of all color to gather here.
They saw hands lifted up. Water …reminding them of the waters of the flood, of Holy Baptism, and God’s life-giving water of creation. They recognized the circle …that has no beginning or end.
If you were among those who first helped to design the window, celebrate that the message continues to inspire the new and the young.
It was a vision of the Spirit’s presence …a vision of Christ among us that inspired the design. Here is what was remembered and shared as we all gazed on the window: It was designed to capture life in the Spirit. Within the image of the uplifted hands is the image of a cup, reminding us that as we receive the bread and wine, the body and blood of Christ, we drink it into ourselves to be the cup of blessing to the world. The circle unites us but also captures the sphere of the world, with grass and sky and colors of creation embrace by God’s love. All that the children saw, was affirmed by those who remembered. The shape of each piece of glass is unique and captures the sunlight in different ways each season. We would remind you that the light shining through the window shines both inward and outward. As it shines on us in worship, it reminds of Christ’s presence and fills us with the light of God’s love. As it shines outward, even in the dark of night it invites and shares the message of Christ’s abiding love to neighbors and all who pass by. - How does it shape our vision for mission in this Pentecost season? Wellness MinistryFrom time to time I offer articles or insight related to wellness and healthy lifestyles. I would like to share an article this month that presents some down-to-earth simple facts about taking care of our feet. It is of utmost importance that shoes offer support and protection and comfort. Although summertime brings much delight for barefoot adventures…there are hazards to that practice…especially for children or diabetics. Even little children can suffer foot discomfort if they wear
poorly fitting footwear. So put your feet up, and do a bit of reading….
Feet Facts: (A Resource from Denise Hole RN)Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.-Mark 10:49
How many times I’ve heard, “Oh my aching feet…” Often those words come out of my own mouth, but I’ve heard my children say it, my parents and travel companions. There was a former Secret Service agent talking on the radio about how they have to stand for 2 hours in leather soled shoes on concrete without shifting their weight around! We take our feet for granted until we feel their pain.
Not only do our two feet contain almost one- fourth the bones in our body (26 in each foot makes 52 of the 206 total in an adult human’s body), but feet are mentioned 85 times in the New Testament of the Bible. It ranks right ahead of heart (73 times) and right behind hands (87 times). People fell at Jesus’ feet, anointed his feet; He washed his disciple’s feet. Jesus healed feet, and promised to put our enemies under our feet.
Some people think that feet are just gross; they would never touch the feet of someone else, “stinky, smelly things.” But with all those bones, and all the use we have for feet there is no wonder that medicine has developed the specialty of podiatry to help us care for, protect and treat our feet. http://apma.org is the website of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA). It offers brochures and videos regarding foot care, safety, shoe purchasing, endorsed products and referrals to local podiatrists. Here is some good
advice to follow, gleaned from perusing the APMA website:
When buying shoes, shop towards the end of the day and measure both feet while standing to determine size. Then buy shoes that fit the larger foot.
If wearing high heels is necessary in your life, limit the time you wear them. One podiatrist advises thinking of shoes in terms of hours of use: A 5 inch heel can be worn for 1-2 hrs, 2 inch 2-3 hrs and flats for 6 hrs. Remember you don’t have to wear the same pair all day long. Alternating stylish heels with flats or sneakers for part of day will reduce pain. (Joy’s aside—NO heels are kind to your feet or back!)
Give your shoes time to breathe. Rotate them, try wearing a different pair each day, that let’s them dry completely between uses. And don’t forget to change your socks; there are more than 250,000 sweat glands on your feet! That why feet, socks and shoes are often damp at the end of a day.
Shoes should not need a chance to “break in”. If they aren’t comfortable in the store, don’t buy them.
When it comes to your feet, please know that there is no such thing as “normal” foot pain. Pain is a signal that there is something wrong. If pain is persistent, please consult your local podiatrist--they are there to help keep your feet happy! or your family physician.

Bob and I deeply appreciate your prayers, sympathy cards and kind words of comfort in the recent unexpected death
of his beloved brother Michael. We are grateful for the prayers for our family as we bid farewell to our son Kevin and daughter–in-law
Danette and their children as they begin new engineering jobs and school life in China.
Prayer sustains and strengthens us in times of
challenge. Joy Burns
