Allowing God to Shape Us Call to Confession

We may work hard to hide our faults and flaws from one another and from ourselves, but with God, we may run, but we cannot hide. Let us, in this moment of confession, stop running from God. Let us turn to God in humility and in trust, laying down our burdens of sin and brokenness. Let us pray.

Prayer of Confession (Unison) Based on Mark 10:17-31Merciful God, your Word is living and active sharper than any two-edged sword. It cuts through the lives we profess to lead, exposing our motives and priorities and how we actually live. Forgive us when we turn and walk away from you rather than give up the things to which we cling. Amen

Assurance of Pardon Based on Exodus 34:6; Psalm 86:15God is merciful and gracious, full of forgiveness, abounding in love and over-flowing with blessing. Receive the gift of forgiveness; live this day with new hope and strength to love.

Coming Before God’s Open Word Blessing upon Our Children and Invitation to Youth Sunday School (Unison)

Great God, make your presence known to these children. Let them experience you and acknowledge you as a God of miracles and blessings – especially the miracles

and blessings of their salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ. May your pres-ence in their lives overflow and bring life-changing blessings to others. Amen.

Prayer for Illumination Scripture Lesson Matthew 14:22-33 Message “Noticing the Wind” Prayer of Blessing

Silent Prayer for Those Seeking to Acknowledge Christ as Their Savior:"Dear Jesus, I confess that I'm a sinner, and not right with you. I repent and ask forgiveness. I believe that you died on the cross to take my punishment and to pay the price for my sins. I believe that you rose from death to give me new life. Wash me clean from all sin, shame, and guilt, and come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. In your name I pray. Amen."

Celebrating God, His Care, and His Abun-dance

Baptism of Addison Lee Welcome Offering/Offertory *Doxology #809 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow*Offertory Prayer (Unison)

Holy God, Ruler of the wind and water, as Christ brought his disciples through the storm and waves on the Sea of Galilee, so you have brought each of us through the turmoil of our lives. Where would we be if your love and care were not there to calm the sea and carry us safely through the storm? We thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to participate with you in your love and caring, generosity and compassion. May these gifts, blessed by you, help us reach out to others. Amen.

IMPORTANT STEWARDSHIP UPDATE Our offering last Sunday was $2,923, close to $300 dollars short of the $3,200 needed weekly to cover KRC’s daily operating expenses. Our deficit is now $7,292 after meeting this past week’s expenses.

Income-to-date: $125,105 - Expenses-to-date: $132,397

Consistory is reporting that they have directed Stewardship Ministry to transfer $10,000 from General Reserves to KRC’s checking account to provide badly-needed cash flow to meet KRC’s daily operating expenses. Due to the limited funds in the General Reserve account, transfers such as this are made rarely, only on an emergency basis, and with the expectation that the ac-count will be replenished in the near future.

Page 3: s3.amazonaws.com€¦  · Web viewMerciful God, your Word is living and active sharper than any two-edged sword. It cuts through the lives we profess to lead, exposing our motives

Stewardship Ministry reminds everyone to prayerfully consider how they might ad-just their giving so we can avoid falling further behind and having to tap into our very limited reserves to meet budgetary obligations.

Inspired by the abundance with which the Lord has blessed us, let us continue, as his faithful stewards, to be ever mindful of the need

to maintain a weekly offering sufficient to cover our commitments.

CONCERTS IN THE VILLAGE PRESENTS ITS 30TH CONCERT4:00 PM THIS COMING SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20

Highlighting the Broad Street Orchestra and graduates of the Bard Vocal Arts Program, the concert will be presented in Van Buren Hall, 6 Chatham Street (US Route 9), Kinderhook. (Van Buren Hall is handicapped accessible by lift.) This will be the second program in CITV’s 2018-2019 season. Featured will be works for orchestra and for voices with orchestra: Handel’s Wa-ter Music Suite I in F, Bach’s comic Coffee Cantata, Haydn’s Symphony 78 in c minor, and two dramatic arias also by Haydn, Miseri noi, misera patria and the famous Scena di Berenice. CITV Artistic Director David Smith will conduct. This concert inaugurates an important CITV initiative: The largest single gift in its history has established the Emerging Singer Fund, which is underwriting three con-certs (two with full orchestra) in the current season. Each is an addition to concerts regularly funded by CITV. The intent of this initiative is to provide performing oppor-tunities with orchestra for exceptional singers engaged in advanced studies, particu-larly those in the Bard Graduate Vocal Arts Program (Dawn Upshaw, Artistic Direc-tor). It is also designed to benefit those who have completed their studies, as well as other singers in the critical early years of their careers. Comments Artistic Director David Smith, “This initiative is a substantial develop-ment for CITV, and confirms much about the quality and sustainability of what we offer. It will certainly enrich CITV programming in 2018-2019 and subsequent sea-sons. I am especially grateful for the financial leadership this gift represents and the future possibilities it suggests. I anticipate many exciting collaborations in programs artfully mixing vocal and orchestral music. The second specially funded program will be on February 24, 2019.” Those singing on October 20 include soprano Katherine Rossiter, mezzo sopranos Mary-Elizabeth O’Neill and Kameryn Lueng, tenor Dan Foster, and baritone Nathaniel Sullivan. All except Dan Foster are graduates of the Bard Vocal Arts Pro-gram. The Broad Street Orchestra has established itself as the region’s premiere pro-fessional chamber orchestra.

For further information and reservations please visitwww.concertsinthevillage.org,

CITV concerts are made possible with public funds from the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered in Columbia, Greene and Schoharie Counties by the Greene County Council on the Arts through the Community Arts Grants
