Open for business irst, I want to express my sincere thanks for your efforts during the integration process to combine the strengths of Wonderware, Eurotherm, IPS and IMServ. We are progressing on the path to a truly integrated business, Invensys Operations Management.

Let me assure you, this is the right move to make at a critical time in the industrial automation industry. We are in the best place right now to capture a

leadership position and re-invent how we add value for clients. The strategy behind IOM provides us with a solid foundation of significant advantages:

l We are strong in Control, Safety and Software. Our new business model creates a mutual pull for software and hardware.

l Our combined range of products can profitably address the “high end” and “low end” of the market.

l We have a symbiotic relationship with the distributor and systems integrator community.

l We have a large potential pipeline of upgradeable customers across all the businesses.

l We’ve established a direct and indirect sales force with a global selling presence.

l We have high potential to bundle solutions across our common manufacturing customer base.

l We have 40,000 total customers with little overlap in key clients, which leaves plenty of room to expand Invensys’ work with key customers.

These differentiators help us meet the ever-changing needs of our customers and empower their organizations to make real-time decisions to drive productivity and performance. And we own the business model and superior technology that

provides an advantage over our competitors who might try to pursue similar strategies. That’s why we’ll be moving quickly to reap the benefits of

a combined organization and to accelerate our strategy.

I encourage you to let the open, thought-provoking conversations about IOM begin – talk to your manager, HR Business Partner or reach out to a colleague. You can make this vision a reality through commitment, willingness to change and the ability to approach every project with a fresh, collaborative, open perspective. Additionally, you can submit your comments and questions by email at [email protected].

And finally, I’m asking for your support as I take on a new leadership role at Invensys and all of the challenges it will undoubtedly bring. I plan to set aside at least one full day per month to visit with fellow employees and get your thoughts and ideas on making Operations Management a success.

The steps we’ve taken on the path to an integrated business are exciting, yet in many ways, we are just getting started. Now more than ever, it is time to open our doors, open our minds and be open to the possibilities of what our new business strategy can deliver.

This is a welcome beginning for the Invensys Operations Management team, and we are definitely open for business.

Plus...Welcome IMServ to the Operations Management family. IMServ, owned by Invensys plc, is an energy

services and solutions provider to uKbusinesses.

In the previous issue of synchronized success, we asked you to send in your best ideas for integrating the businesses. And now, we have a winner! Congratulations to Barbara Giammona (above), technical Publications Manager. Barbara has won a new Amazon Kindle 2, a wireless reading device that holds up to 1500 downloads of books, magazines, and blogs.

Barbara’s idea is to capture best practices research on culture and tap into employee’s thoughts on their ideal work environments. Some of the ways she suggested that we accomplish this include:

l Research what characterizes “Best in Class” culture in other successful global organizations.

l Survey a broad cross-section of employees to find out their thoughts on the best and worst work environments.

l Form an employee team and in round-table discussions, ask them the same questions.

l use the team’s ideas, survey results, and “Best in Class” research to define a set of characteristics for the new organization to reflect.

Many of Barbara’s ideas are already in the integration plan and should help facilitate a quicker blending of our businesses. “I’m thrilled that my idea was selected,” she said. “The insights I’ve gained in trying to integrate teams from Foxboro, Avantis, Wonderware, triconex, IdC, SimSci-Esscor and a third-party in India, have taught me to listen thoroughly to those closest to the situation. they are your experts.”

thanks to the many others who sent in their entries. Your thought process is exactly what we need to make our cultural integration a success – so keep it up.

Watch for the next issue of synchronized success – another exciting contest will be featured.

until next time, enjoy the integration journey!

integration

HE jOURNEY of integration that began a few months ago is starting to take shape. the creation of Invensys Operations Management (IOM) is set to position the division to capitalize on a window of opportunity within

the industrial automation marketplace. Additionally, IMServ, an energy services and

solutions provider in the united Kingdom, now will be joining the Operations Management division. the company is owned by Invensys plc and based in Milton Keynes, near London. IMServ specializes in the areas of data, insight and carbon and energy savings for its customers.

Now as one division, the Operations Management team can be more customer focused to capture growth opportunities. the new structure expands offerings across the entire spectrum of control systems and operations. Plus, there is the potential for strong revenue from selling the entire range of offerings to customers. ultimately, the division will experience cost savings from common delivery and back-office functions as well.

Unlock the potential In today’s uncertain global economy, the keys

to unlocking the potential of our business are improved productivity and agility. For example, manufacturing and transportation customers have global operations and need to act quickly to adjust to demand and improve productivity. It’s a known fact that operations happen in real time, but most often information is not available in real time. By the time most information arrives, it’s old, limited in scope and does not provide advice on how to improve business value. Currently, there are no ready commercial solutions that holistically solve the problem. And Invensys is open and ready to meet those challenges.

“We have the talent, expertise, technology and vision to provide game-changing solutions for the global manufacturing industry,” said Sudipta Bhattacharya, Operations Management CEO and Business President. “By creating information out of data, and presenting that information in styles and formats that today’s worker can relate to such as virtual reality, 3d modeling and multimedia, we can empower workers across the customer organization and give them the ability to make great decisions, in real time. With our help, these workers will become nimble in undertaking their daily tasks, and our customer organizations, in turn, will become more agile businesses operating efficiently in a real-time world.”

IPS, Wonderware, Eurotherm and IMServ are now Invensys Operations Management.

The open approachl Provide high levels of automation, optimization,

utilization and availability

l Enable all installed automation technologies to operate as a single system

l Integrate entire enterprises and supply chains

l use proprietary technology to support open architectures

l Apply software to connect products and systems, operations management and ERP in real-time

Invensys Egypt connects with government entity to create joint venture

hE RELATIONShIP between Invensys and the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum has serious potential. A meeting of the minds has resulted in a joint venture that is mutually

beneficial for both organizations.

the partnership will deliver a technology and knowledge transfer between IOM and the Ministry of Petroleum.

Ahmed Aboushady, who serves as managing director of the joint venture, said, “This is a new business model where Invensys enters into a real partnership with its customers. the new joint venture will help Invensys increase its market share in Egypt and capitalize on the significant market potential there.”

Earning interest In 2007, Ulf henriksson, CEO of

Invensys plc, met with the Ministry of Petroleum to discuss business opportunities. the ministry’s primary focus was in advanced process controls that were linked to high-end production costs, and there was not enough investment in performance management.

From that meeting the idea of a partnership was developed that would involve Invensys, Enppi and gasco.*

the partnership will offer a full portfolio of IOM solutions, along with engineering and gas pipeline support from Enppi and gasco. the joint venture is 60 percent Invensys-owned, with the other 40 percent split between gasco (15 percent) and Enppi (25 percent).

A great investment Recently named to the IOM executive

team, Mohamed Farouk took a lead role in the Egypt joint venture development. Farouk was instrumental in starting a program at the Engineering Excellence Center in Egypt where graduates from the university of Cairo have an opportunity to learn the business and become part of the Invensys team.

“Engineers who may not know exactly what they want to do after university can apply for our training program,” said Farouk. “It benefits us because we can grow our own talent and give them future visibility within the organization to take on leadership roles.”

the local Egyptian market is a land of opportunity for IOM. division leaders project that it can capture 20 percent of the market through the joint venture.

this business deal has been well received in the region because it benefits the area financially. The region is able to share in the profits and the training program presents a new option for graduates and educated individuals.

“This will allow Invensys to provide the latest automation and process optimization technologies to new plants in Egypt, as well as play a significant role in the modernization of existing plants and refineries,” said Aboushady. “We will develop a modern facility, which will include a versatile staging area, workshop and warehouse capable of handling the largest automation projects. This will bring significant value for Invensys projects inside and outside Egypt.”

The big payoff Franco Restelli of Invensys

worked with Farouk and Aboushady to develop the joint venture and said he sees this as a positive example of building business relationships in growing countries.

“The ultimate goal is the transfer of knowledge and technology from Operations Management applications,” said Restelli. “There could be an opportunity to replicate this type of venture in places such as Nigeria, Algeria and Kazakhstan. there is a pool of talent in the world. We must develop the talent, look to the future and make Invensys a globally preferred company.”

Aboushady said he couldn’t agree more. “This will be a successful joint venture for IOM, Gasco and Enppi,” he explained. “It will help Invensys increase its installed base in Egypt. As partners, Gasco and Enppi will benefit substantially in transferring the latest technologies to Egypt and participating in job creation and development for Egyptian engineers.”

l Gasco is the operator of all gas production and movement of the gas pipeline in Egypt.

l Enppi is Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industry. the business was established by the Minister of Petroleum in Egypt to engineer, design, and provide automation to the petroleum industry.

Wonder-ful experience Wonderware global Sales & Marketing Conference hits its mark

VALUATION forms, feedback and favorable comments tell the story of the successful global Sales and Marketing Conference for Wonderware. Approximately 98 percent of participants rated the conference as excellent or good. that winning score is from more than 500 engineers,

system integrators, innovation partners, distributors and Wonderware employees from all over the globe who gathered for the 2009 conference in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

this year’s event featured general sessions with top company executives, breakout meetings and an EXPO night featuring more than 20 third-party exhibitors with hands-on sessions to highlight the latest industry applications, technology and products. Motorola, Echelon, geometric and APEX are just a few of the exhibitors who participated. Additionally, a well-balanced list of classes was available for the attendees to learn more about trends and new product offerings.

Conference planners delivered on their objective: to deliver three dimensions of sales and marketing knowledge – products, vertical industries and solutions. (See sidebar) Wonderware, which is now part of the Invensys Operations Management division, is a premier player in automation and information software. the conference was an opportunity to train and empower the Wonderware global sales and marketing team, and for key channel partners to take a peek at what’s next.

Key takeaways for conference attendeesl understanding the vertical

industry and solution portfolio and how to work across the entire ecosystem

l Protecting and selling to Wonderware core customer accounts with System Platform & Intouch HMI – to create a larger and stronger core

l Having confidence in selling Mobile Solutions in traditional and new industries

l Having confidence in selling MES/ EMI Solutions

l understanding how to be successful in this economy through excellent training.

Jay David, from the Wonderware Customer Success team, was one of the live bloggers during the conference and found the presentations on day 2, to be the most interesting. “It was great to hear about the Wonderware Roadmap because I always want to find out where we’re going,” he said. “It’s also reassuring when you find out that the smart people at Wonderware are hard at work and that there is cool stuff coming our way. One of the highlights of the second day general Session for me was the presentation of Sudipta Bhattacharya, and the demos on Wonderware Enterprise Intelligence and System Platform.”

Another highlight of the conference were the inventive and funny video clips called “Wonderware Jones and the Quest for Empowerment,” featuring Rashesh Mody, who was serving as interim president of Wonderware. the video took more than two months to complete and was created by Wonderware Studios and Linda Ellison, the video’s producer and Wonderware team member. “Rashesh was a trooper and he did all the acting and ‘stunts,’ Ellison said. For more information on the conference, contact Steve Garbrecht, director of Product Marketing.

impact

Water treatment plant taps Invensys Operations Management IOM has captured a significant win in the Italian petrochemical market by landing a multimillion project. Eurotherm will supply automation for one of the largest ground water treatment plants to be built in Europe, Syndial Priolo.

the project is being coordinated by Saipem FANO, an Italian oil and gas industry contractor and subsidiary of Eni. Saipem is used as a contractor to design and construct gas pipelines for major refineries and production sites, such as Syndial Priolo.

Italian law requires all petrochemical sites to do a ground analysis. If the results fall below the set limits, then a water treatment plant becomes part of the environmental strategy.

the water treatment plant for this project will process ground water pulled from 120 wells within the petrochemical plant areas. Each well will be controlled by a Eurotherm 3504 high performance hybrid temperature controller.

the project was split in two phases with Eurotherm providing automation control for the treatment processes: l Phase 1 PRIOLO January 2007l Phase 2 PRIOLO April 2009

IOM acquired this important project with support from Luciano Pietrobon, a longstanding industry insider and partner in systems and solutions. the relationship with Pietrobon helped solidify Eurotherm’s remarkable contributions to the industry and the success of Eurotherm systems and dCS solutions in Italy.

top competitors such as Siemens and Emerson were in pursuit of the project, but ultimately, Eurotherm was chosen for several reasons: l Eurotherm has previously completed many successful projects

for Saipem, and our Italian team alongside Pietrobon has been working on the latest bid for Syndial Priolo since 2003.

l Eurotherm’s capability to work out issues directly with technical and service offices, results in effective communication with the customer.

l By working closely and competently with the customer, Eurotherm is recognized as a plus over competitors.

l demonstrated value to the customer and a passion for the project assures Saipem and Syndial confidence in the team.Special thanks and recognition to Pietro Ranieri, technical

project leader, and Marco Brusadelli, Logistics Manager for contributing to this contract win.

ASSIVE heart failure: pain shooting down the

left arm, shortness of breath, and life in the balance.

Linda Pertello required immediate heart bypass surgery to correct a serious heart blockage. A heart lung machine is a vital ingredient in this procedure, circulating the patient’s blood when the heart is stopped.

To avoid heart damage during surgery, blood must be cooled to a specific temperature at certain times and warmed to specific temperatures at others.

Eurotherm controllers kept Linda’s blood at the correct temperature, enabling her successful surgery and giving her a new lease on life.

aintenance at any plant or facility is critical

to operations. that’s why the engineers at Bodycote tapped Wonderware for a solution to maintain the productivity and consistency of its hot isostatic pressing (HIP) furnaces.

At temperatures of 2000ºF, Bodycote furnaces pressurize and heat parts and components for jet engines, gas turbines, automobile assemblies and medical equipment. this process makes them as strong as possible and less resistant to stress fractures. If a furnace malfunctions, the entire process starts all over again.

Bodycote needed to improve temperature stability, and employ better tools to save money on equipment costs and maintenance. Wonderware Cincinnati, a regional Wonderware distributor, worked to meet Bodycote’s needs with a number of software solutions, including Intouch, Historian and SCAdAlarm.

With the new Wonderware software, accurate real-time data on the operation of all of Bodycote’s equipment is available. this has enabled operators to monitor valves, pumps and other parts closely, and perform maintenance only when it’s actually needed. this not only helps the plant achieve a higher level of productivity, but it also enables operators to repair equipment before total failures occur.

Shawn Crawford, Bodycote Plant Engineer, said teamwork was the key to Bodycote’s successful results, “Everyone did a great job of using the Wonderware software to produce a user-friendly system that’s quite outstanding.”

Additionally, operators can watch overall operations for the furnace units and other areas of the plant from

one location. this means that fewer employees can do more work and, because of the reliability of the system, they can also perform additional, value-added duties during their shifts.

the need to re-process parts due to temperature fluctuation or operator error has been nearly eliminated, and Wonderware SCAdAlarm software alerts operators to equipment that needs attention, or triggers an automatic shutdown if necessary.

Crawford explained that the most important feature of the new Wonderware software solution is its usability. “Diagrams and on-screen icons representing equipment, configurations and processes are easy to read and understand,” he said. “There are many different screens, but not so many as to confuse operators – even less-experienced ones.”

Bodycote also plans to use the Wonderware software for training employees. Example runs and problem situations can be simulated with the software so that operators can learn how to best react. And these exercises can be accomplished without taking the plant systems offline, so there’s no impact on productivity.

Wonderware software has clearly taken Bodycote and its HIP process to a new level of stability, consistency and efficiency.

Expo booth leads to deal with pharmaceuticals company

WHEN the Eurotherm team set up a booth at the EXPOQUIMIA

exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, last year, they were hoping to get noticed. And that’s exactly what happened. Faes Farma, a leading Spanish pharmaceutical group dedicated to research, development, manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceuticals, visited the booth to learn more about Eurotherm controls and process monitoring. the booth led to a discussion that put Eurotherm out front to win a contract to upgrade systems for a new syrup production area with clean rooms.

Eurotherm was competing with a system integrator, Irati Control. then, the team outpaced the competition with a strategy to add the 6000 series for data acquisition of temperature, pressure and humidity, and Bridge and Review software for monitoring and tracing environmental conditions inside the productions rooms. Eurotherm also provided all the configuration and documentation along with commissioning, training courses, full validation and calibration information.

Along with a visit to the expo booth, Faes Farma also cited Eurotherm’s credible expertise and enthusiasm for the project as key factors in the selection process. this deal illustrates how a simple exhibition booth can often be significant in winning future projects.

And Faes Farma is already reaping the benefits of the Eurotherm solution with a reduction of delivery times, safety improvements and cost reductions.

Congratulations to Oskar Askasibar for his contributions to this contract win.

A breath of fresh air New Eurotherm solution strengthens commitment to sustainability

HANKS to Eurotherm, the air is a little cleaner near Hanson Building Products in Peterborough, united Kingdom. A Eurotherm solution was implemented at the brickworks plant, and now the emission of harmful gases has been reduced with a control system.

Hanson Building Products supply approximately 9 percent of the bricks used in the united Kingdom’s construction industry. the Eurotherm solution provides complete control over the monitoring and reporting of emissions from six kilns/ovens that are used to heat materials to manufacture bricks and other construction products. Clay used to produce the bricks contains high levels of sulphur, making compliance with stringent uK regulations on air quality challenging.

“Getting live data is the key to the system,” said Andy Burns, Hanson Project Manager. “Now we have the information to know if emissions become too high, and immediate changes can be made in the control room to reduce them. Emission limits are reviewed and lowered every four years, so we are constantly looking to keep emissions down. this tool will help us keep them within the limits.”

Now, complete SCAdA replacement upgrades for the new Kiln control and Supervisory System is underway at both sites. this completes the goal to provide a totally flexible control philosophy and opens the door to more opportunities for performance improvements to the entire kiln process across many industries.

“Eurotherm is dedicated to helping its customers comply with environmental standards and to be more conscious of sustainability,” said David Bean, Eurotherm Project Manager. “This solution is evidence of that commitment.”
