Dr. R. M. Sawant ( Ph. D. Civil structures)

Department of Civil Engineering. P.E.S. College of Engineering,

Aurangabad.

Greeting of the seasons... I am very happy to share my feeling in the first ever published magazine of our civil engineering department. First of all I would like to congratulate all the staff and students who have taken an initiative to publish this magazine of the department. It was a long lasting wish of mine to have such sort of magazine and this wish came true through this magazine. Through this magazine I wish to

explore the hidden potential and

talent of the students in different

aspects of life. Apart from academics

I wish students to evolve themselves

and motivate others to explore.

The motive behind having this magazine is to provide a platform for my dear students through which they can exhibit their linguistic, technical, social, moral ethics. I hope students would definitely use this as a tool for the purpose. It's my earnest desire that students should always come forward with their innovative ideas which shall definitely help the other budding technocrats through the articles, arts related to any aspect of life and science.

this magazine a grand success At this outset I take an approximate to appreciate my bright students Mr. Kunal Sharma for scoring highest marks in environment engineering at university in 2013, also Mr. Zaker Mirza who stud fourth in university in 2013. I highly appreciate Ms. Jabeen Khan who bagged all the prizes of university and stood first in the order of merit. To mention about her she never stood second in her life In her academics and curricular and extracurricular activities. All these Alumni have set a paradigm in their own. I am very happy to share that our P.E. society management, Chairman Dr. S. P. Gaikwad and other honorable trustees who have always shown their faith in me and my team and always extended their cooperation while exhibiting all the efforts for the benefit of the students. I am also grateful towards our Principal, Dr. A. P. Wadekar who encouraged us in doing all activities for the benefit of students. With blessings I wish you all the best and success.

ABOUT P E S COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, AURANGABAD

Continuing along the progressive lines Peoples Education Society (Mumbai) Established the PES College of Engineering in the historical city of Aurangabad, with an aim to set up a standard technical education. It was aimed to provide greater opportunities to the aspiring students to avail the best education and upliftment of the down trodden by community.

We are approved to AICTE, New Delhi, DTE, and Mumbai and have given the society a large number of sound technocrats who are counted amongst the best in technical and still better in a human sense.

As on today we are having total intake capacity of 450 students for first year in five branches with total strength of more than 1800 students.

We are an ISO9001:2000 certified institute. Very soon we will be endorsed by NAAC and NBA.

PES is having high academic standards, defined student staff ratio, specified computer ratio, specified computer ratio, digital library work and excellent industry institute interaction.

The college is all set to write its name on the greater heights and its students are already doing the best in their paces of work.

Lab In-charge Prof. P. C. Wahewal

M. Tech (Environment)

The Environmental Engineering Laboratory is a state of the art, well-equipped laboratory that is able to perform most types of laboratory analyses. The Environmental Engineering laboratory offers excellent facilities for determining the waste water contaminants, including BOD Incubator, COD Digester, Spectrophotometer, DO Analyser and Total Dissolved Solid meter. Additional instrumentation includes Digital pH meter, Hot air oven, Muffle furnace and portable pH meters, and TDS meter. There is sufficient platform space and study area available to perform various experiments simultaneously.

Everything from individual particles to the tallest buildings to a rushing river experiences forces and torques. Each object liquid or solid, large or small-responds differently under different conditions. Engineering mechanics examines these external forces by studying statics, dynamics, materials strength, elasticity, visco-elasticity and fluid dynamics. In this lab we can prove various laws and theorems like Lami’s

Theorem, Parallelogram Law, Law of Triangle, Varignon’s

theorem and find out the Moment of Inertia of Given Flywheel etc.

Basic of Civil Engineering

Computer lab

Civil engineering is the oldest branch of engineering mechanics which is growing right from the Stone Age civilization. American society of civil engineers defines Civil Engineering as the profession in which a knowledge of mathematical and physical sciences gained by the study, experience and practice is applied with the judgement to develop ways to utilize economically the materials and forces of nature for the progressive well- being of man.

Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer systems (or workstations) to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing. Computer lab includes the study different design software and programmes which includes the study of following fields:

1. AUTO-CAD 2. ETABS2015 3. SAP2000 (ADVANCED V18) 4. REVIT

Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory

Geotechnical engineering is the branch of civil engineering concerned with the engineering behaviour of earth materials. Geotechnical engineering is important in civil engineering, but also has applications in military, mining, petroleum and other engineering disciplines that are concerned with construction occurring on the surface or within the ground. Foundations are designed and constructed for structures of various sizes such as high-rise buildings, bridges, medium to large commercial buildings, and smaller structures where the soil conditions do not allow code-based design.

Industrial visit

Industrial visit has its own importance in career of a student who is pursuing a professional degree. It is considered as a part of curriculum mainly in engineering. An objective of industrial visit is to provide students an insight regarding internal working of companies. We know theoretical knowledge is not enough for making a good professional career. So our civil engineering department is aiming to go beyond Academic, industrial visits provides student a practical perspective On the world of work.

Information & Communication Technology

(ICT)

Worldwide research has shown that ICT can lead to improved student learning and better teaching methods. A report made by the National Institute of Multimedia Education in Japan, proved that an increase in student exposure to educational ICT through curriculum integration has a significant and positive impact on student achievement, especially in terms of "Knowledge Comprehension" "Practical skill" and "Presentation skill" in subject areas such as mathematics, science, and social study. Educational ICT tools can be divided into 3 categories: Input source, Output source and others.

In this facility students are able to access all the NPTEL videos for each and every subject with their login id. And ICT also includes the new web page which is known as CHAMILO by login that web page students are able to access lecture notes and extra study material.

STUDENTS EVALUATION CRITERIA During the curriculum students are supposed to attend the lectures and accordingly marks can be obtained out of 30%.Students are supposed to give their 100% involvement during the practical, project any other seminar work, rather than depending on other to do so. Students should be interactive and involved in practical; accordingly marks are obtained from 15% which are derived. Discipline and behaviour of students should be maintained during the curriculum and this criterion weighs near about 15% of the total term work marks. Students should make proper use of time and complete the given task in time, this weights 20% of TW mark. These help the students to improve time management and also learn the importance of time. The students should prepare well for the class test as it improves the score well in the term which weighs 20% of TW marks. Accordingly average marks of the two class test are considered. Students are required to attend at least 75% of the classes as per the BAMU rule. The process of the project work should go through the research scholars and the attendance is regularly monitarised by the respective guides.Encouraging students regularly for the project work which can be prepared the students to do the project work without failure.
