Name the top ten reasons to have faith in God. Our sixth grade Faith Formation class was asked that question and responded: He is the one and only true God. He created everything and everyone. He sent His Son to die on the cross for us. He gave us free will. He forgives us. He answers our prayers. He guides us. He listens to us. He loves us. He is always by our side. How does this compare to your list? We are created in God’s image and likeness, sacred, holy, unique. God has given us the great gift of faith. A wonderful prayer of faith is The Apostles’ Creed. A prayer that we probably don’t pray often enough. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “the Creed is the spiritual seal, our heart’s meditation and an ever-present guardian; it is, unquestionably, the treasure of our soul”. The Apostles’ Creed is a treasure we need to value, to meditate on, to guide us in reach-ing our life’s goal. What is that goal? To become a saint. St. Maximilian has a simple formula for us to follow. W + w = S. The capital W stands for God’s will. The lowercase w stands for our will. Together they lead to Sanctity (Sainthood). Ask for the grace you need each day to follow God’s will. Pray the Apostles’ Creed dai-ly. Believing in God and loving him with all your being has enormous consequences for your whole life. St. Teresa of Jesus prayed: “Let nothing trouble you. Let nothing frighten you. Every-thing passes, God never changes. Patience obtains all. Whoever has God wants for nothing. God alone is enough”.

Faith Formation Commission

Lenten Tree of Life During the Lenten season we have been given the unique chance to grow closer to the understanding of Christ’s death and resurrection through prayer, fasting and alms giving. We invite you to partici-pate with our Lenten Tree of Life giving program. By making a sacrificial offering during Lent to St Pio, you allow us the chance to meet the daily challenges of our grow-ing parish. We ask that you take a tag from the Tree of Life and fulfill what is requested on it. Your Lenten gift may be returned in the collection basket at Mass by April 18th, Holy Thursday.

CSA PLEDGES…

Please remember that if you have made a pledge to CSA, it is important to have your pledge commitment paid in full by April 30, 2020.

If we do not meet CSA target, it will be the responsibility of the Parish to assume the shortfall from parish funds.

Thank you for your continued support. Your Shepherd, Fr. Greg

Faith Formation & Youth Ministry News

Classes resume for all grades this week! We will reflect on Lent this week, as it starts this Wednesday, February 26th. On Ash Wednesday, the ashes are

meant to symbolize both death and repentance in order to begin Lent in a solemn, hum-ble way. Most churches use palms from the previous year’s Palm Sunday mass to create the ash. When we receive ashes, the priest or pastor says, “From dust you came and from dust you will return". Lent is a time for fasting, self-sacrifice, and repentance, it makes sense to begin the 40 day period with a symbolic gesture of solemnity through the sign of the cross on our foreheads. Ashes are received at Mass at either 9:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. Don't forget to get your ashes that day! This Thursday, February 27th, Catechists from our Faith Formation Program will be attending a special night of reflection, fellowship and prayer. St. Joan of Arc is the host and this event is sponsored by the parishes and Faith Formation leadership of the SERF Vicariate. It is called "Resting in the Presence of the Lord" and should allow for some great fellowship! Next Sunday, March 1st another SERF Vicariate Event will take place and it is the Youth Recognition & Mass. Youth nominees from several parishes will celebrate at Mass and be recognized at the awards ceremony directly after the Mass. Mass starts at 11 a.m. here at St. Pio. Students from St. Pio that are receiving an award include: Gloria Arwood, Erin Boddington, Legend Morgan, Matthew Trochia and Carol Pearce. All have shown great leadership ability and have volunteered at the parish in many areas. For instance, Carol & Legend are altar servers, Gloria works as a Teacher's assistant for Grade 3 and Erin & Matthew have helped at several High School Ministry projects like Trunk or Treat and MLK, Jr. day of Service. That was just a short list of all they do for the parish community and we thank them for their dedication. All are welcome to come and share in this wonderful Mass for the Youth of our Vicariate! Rite of Election will take place for our RCIA Candidates on Sunday, March 1st as well. Please pray for our Candidates: Charles Franklin Johnson, Jr., Jim Nelson, Brian Glass, Nicholas Matheny, Albyn Rios, Axel Rios and Axelis Rios! We pray that the Holy Spirit will inspire them to learn and become witnesses not only in faith but as witnesses of His love! Event.

Janice Pazuchowski, Faith Formation

Eucharistic Adoration Matthew 26:36 ~ Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and

he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed.” Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch

with me for one hour?”

Please come pray with us on Mondays from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

Music Notes

Remember, folks. It is never too late to join our choir here at St. Pio. If you’re interested but you think you can’t sing very well, stop by for a complimentary

voice evaluation. I guarantee you it will not be embarrassing, just the two of us running through some current musical materials. There is nothing particularly demanding about participation in the choir. We have a weekly rehearsal on Tuesdays at 7PM and you may choose the mass that you would like to attend and sing at that mass. It’s that easy! I hear some really striking, high-quality voices out there in the congregation. I would love to have those voices up front in the choir. Wouldn’t that be something? I would like to start a new member out with just a couple songs. In other words, a very manageable workload. In fact, don’t even think of it as work. I want your experience to be enjoyable and alt-hough there are efforts in being a choral vocalist, I never really want to label it as work. It is fun and enjoyable. We have quite a group with terrific camaraderie and there are many people to help you in addition to myself. Please consider joining the St. Pio Choir. We need you!

Attention WIDOWS & WIDOWERS

“Alone Together” is a newly formed ministry at St. Pio of Pietrelcina.

This ministry has been initiated to honor, enrich, and refresh in mind, body, and soul all who have survived the loss of a spouse, whether recently or long ago.

We hope to accomplish this through food and fellowship...through the sharing of a light lunch, spiritual reflections and in-sights, and a warm fellowship borne of sur-viving the loss of a spouse.

Initial reflections will touch on gratitude, prayer, service, faith, and church. Light lunch will include sandwiches, chips, cook-ies, and beverage. Warm fellowship will hopefully occur with the mutual support of surviving loss.

The first gathering is to take place on: Saturday, March 14th from noon to ap-proximately 1:30 in the Conference Room at St. Pio.

Come and see if this gathering could be source of joy and continued spiritual growth for you!

For further information, please contact Carol Murray at (248) 719-2519.
