Thai London Heathrow Terminal 2 Update Heathrow Airport’s brand new Terminal 2 opens in a year’s time, on June 4th 2014, when 23 Star Alliance airlines, plus Aer Lingus, Virgin Atlantic Little Red and germanwings will move into the £2.5billion facility. Over six months of testing – involving 14,000 people – will take place before Terminal 2 opens, with some 20 million passengers a year set to pass through the new building at its peak. A United Airlines flight from Chicago is due to be its first arrival. “This next step in Heathrow's transformation will deliver a better journey for passengers, a more efficient and reliable infrastructure for airlines and additional jobs, trade and economic growth for the UK,” says John Holland-Kaye, Heathrow development director. Terminal 2 will be Heathrow’s most sustainable terminal to date and marks the latest phase of an overall £11billion transformation of the airport. The old Terminal 2, which opened in 1955 and handled eight million passengers a year, was closed and demolished in 2009. Passenger flow around the terminal has been carefully planned and there will be over 50 shops, 17 bars and restaurants, 60 fast-bag drops, 60 self- service kiosks, 56 traditional check-in desks and 24 security lanes. Mark Schwab, CEO of Star Alliance, says, “Our 23 member carriers at Heathrow generate more than 20 per cent of the airport’s overall traffic. Hence, it is only logical that we actively participate in the Terminal 2 project which will become our home at Heathrow." The 26 airlines will move into Terminal 2 over a period of six months, with just ten per cent of flights operating from it in the first three weeks of June before building up to full operations. www.thebusinesstravelmag.com Allan’s Leaving Special Edition Ben Napthine gets ready for Summer with a sponsored Leg Wax!
