Montevallo Middle 2013
Some risk is part of everyday life. Some risk are easy to identify and others are hidden.

the negative health effects that might be caused by this behavior.

Risk and Risk Behaviors
You can not avoid all risks. If you play sports, you probably encounter many risks of injury. Wearing protective gear, warming up correctly and performing skills with proper form are ways to reduce these risks.
Consequences are the results of actions, and not all consequences cause harm. If I choose not to study for a test, I risk getting a low grade. If I choose to fight, I’m risking hurting myself and possibly others.
Risks and Consequences
Playing a sport can have many benefits, but it can also lead to injuries. Four team sports cause 80% of all team sport injuries. Can you list them from most to least dangerous?
ACTIVITY – In the US, more than 30 million children play sports. 3.5 million are injured each year while playing.
Calculate the percentage of children who play sports without experiencing injury.
Teens and Risks
1 – Find the number of students that participate without injury
30 million – 3. 5 million = 26. 5 million
2 – 26.5 million divided by 30 million = 88.3

How to Avoid or Reduce Risks
Abstinence is the conscious active choice not to participate in high-risk behaviors.
