What is S-HOW Motion

• Advanced application of wearable technology based on inertial

sensors for the characterization of human gestures

• Allows to run a 10-15 minutes analysis describing how the movement

is performed

• Allows to generate a biomechanical profile on articularity of the

subject

• Study the effect of an underlying pathology/injury

Goal - Prevention

• Injury prevention and recovery come together

• The levels where our measurment tool can be applied are:

– Primary prevention (remove/reduce risk factors)

– Secondary prevention (identify the problem before it occurs)

– Rehabilitation

Adedd value in Primary Prevention

S-HOW Motion Measure, Prevent

SCENARIO OBJECTIVE ADDED VALUE

Starting assessment of

players

Indentify alterations due to

previous injuries

• Easily measure the “inducing factors”

(articularity, symmetry) during common

task, on the field

• Monitor lifestyle

Functional evaluation

exercises

Understand if an altered

movement is the effect of a

lack in strength or resistance

• Quantification of “Core stability”

Prevention exercises Reduce the probability of

injuries through the training

program

• Characterization/quantification/verifica

tion of the correct execution of the 11+

warm-up exercises from F-MARC (FIFA).

Insurance State the shape and healthy

status of the athlete

• Translate the injury into an objective

and quantitative value

Added value in the Secondary Prevention

S-HOW Motion Measure, Prevent

SCENARIO OBJECTIVE ADDED VALUE

Warm-up exercizes are

not specific for a

certain injury

Try to identify the

signs/indexes which

anticipate a certain kind

of injury

• Measurement of specific

exercises allowing to evaluate

the player status, an estimate

of the required resting period,

supporting the work of

physiotherrapists

Need of a rapid test

which allows a

“screening” of the

soccer player profile

• Determine indexes for quick

reporting and consultancy (e.g.

asymmetry between left and

right side)

Rehabilitation

S-HOW Motion Measure, Prevent

SCENARIO OBJECTIVE ADDED VALUE

Physical and

psychological recovery

Evaluate the evolution of

the therapy;

Improve communication

with the player

• Evaluation of the status during

the rehabilitation/treatmetn

on the field (o in the swimming

pool)

Recovery with

standard methods

must take into account

the specific player

Generate a customized

training

• Subject-specific evaluation

Discussion

• How the “characterization of the athletic task” can

provide benefits to the world of football?

– Primary Prevention: optimization of the exercises

proposes in the 11+, or their evolution and improvements

– Secondary Prevention: examination of the common

tasks by the athlete, extracting a reference get a

screening in time, identifying signs linked to a potential

injury

– Rehabilitation: creation of a customized training
