About Communion At LCOL, we trust and believe Gods Word and His Holy Scripture. We believe Gods Word that says that Jesus Himself is giving us not only bread and wine, but His very body and blood when we commune, that it is given for the forgiveness of our sins and to strengthen our union with Christ and with each other, and that Jesus invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of all sins, and forgive and love others, as He forgives and loves us. We believe the Word which says that because those who commune unworthily do so to their great harm; those who are not baptized or not properly prepared, and those who doubt should not commune. Because Holy Communion is a unified confession of faith of Christs Body at LCOL, we ask that all people new to LCOL who wish to receive the Sacrament would speak first with our pastor, We ask this out of love and spiritual care for all who come here, and we ask this for the sake of our unity and Lutheran confession. We welcome all people to come forward for a blessing; simply, cross your arms on your chest when the pastor comes to you. If you have any questions, please, talk to our pastor. We know that the first few times visiting a new church can be awkward. We hope you will discover there are many wonderful people here along with opportunities for you to find good friends and be part of Christ’s growing Kingdom. We have Christ-centered worship each Sunday, as well as Youth Group and adult Bible studies on both Sunday morning and Wednes-day evening. For your little ones, there are changing tables in the main hall in both the men’s and women’s restrooms, as well as a cry room in the back of the sanctuary and little Luther-an bags of toys just outside the cry room door. Please leave your contact information in the red booklets in the pew, so we can better serve you in your walk with Christ and help you serve Him.

SCRIPTURE READINGS

Lutheran Church of the Lakes | 8800 N. Rollin Hwy, Addison, MI 49220

1 Kings 17:8-16 8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, 9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.” 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a wid-ow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.” 11 And as she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, “Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.” 12 And she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. And now I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die.” 13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’” 15 And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days. 16 The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.

Romans 8:31-39 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies.34 Who is to condemn?

Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribula-tion, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or na-kedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaugh-tered.”37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Mark 12:38-44

And in his teaching he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces 39 and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts,40 who devour widows' houses and for a pre-tense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” 41 And he sat down oppo-site the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums.42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
