relationship to God’s gift of creation and our command to steward what has been entrusted to us. Investing time with Pope Francis’ Laudato Sí: On the Care for our Common Home, is a way to invite the Season of Creation 2020 to bear fruit for ourselves, our neighbors and our common home itself.

THE MATERNITY OF ST. ANN was the original name our ancestors gave to this Tuesday’s (Sept. 8) liturgical feast, the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is very much a celebration for

our own parish because Mary was immaculately conceived nine months ago (Dec. 8) in the womb of her mother Ann. St. Ann and her spouse St. Joachim are the parents of the Mother of God.

MOTHER OF GOD – This Wednesday (Sept. 9), our friends at Holy Ghost Orthodox Church will commemorate the third Ecumenical Council of the Church (431 A.D.) when the bishops of the world gathered in Ephesus to respond to a challenge raised by some that Jesus was not one person but rather two

distinct persons: one human and one Divine. The proclamation that Mary is the Mother of God (!) flowed from the Council’s teaching that Jesus is one person and so it is not correct to say that Mary is the mother of the human Jesus but not the mother of the Divine Jesus.

WHAT’S IN A NAME? – asked Shakespeare’s Juliet. This Saturday (Sept. 12) we will celebrate the memorial of the Most Holy Name of Mary. Miryam (Hebrew) and Maryam

(Aramaic) are words of unknown origins but are thought to mean “rebellion”. I think the values and perspectives found in Mary’s Song (Luke 1:46-55) support the association of Mary with rebellion. When the bishops at the Council of Ephesus named Mary as the Most Holy Theotókos (God-Bearer or Mother of God), it was news. News that was good! News that was amazing! Not only that in Mary’s Son humanity and divinity have become one, but even further that in Mary’s Son the Creator (the One who exists apart from creation) had entered into and become a part of creation. As Mavis Staples sings in the song You’re Not Alone: “Open up! This is a raid!” https://youtu.be/KW0kE6mucFY

Labor Day 2020 Statement From the Catholic Bishops of the USA

"Behold, I make all things new" - Rebuilding a Dignified Post-COVID World

This Labor Day is a somber one. The COVID-19 pandemic goes on. Economic circumstances for so many families are stressful or even dire. Anxiety is high. Millions are out of work and wondering how they will pay the bills. And for workers deemed “essential” who continue to work outside the home, there is the heightened danger of exposure to the virus. Yet, as Pope Francis points out in a set of beautiful and challenging reflections on the pandemic, “In this wasteland, the Lord is committed to the regeneration of beauty and rebirth of hope: ‘Behold, I am doing something new: right now it is sprouting, don’t you see it?’ (Is 43:19). God never abandons his people, he is always close to the especially when pain becomes more present.”1 As God declares to John in Revelation: “Behold, I make all things new” (Rev. 21:5). God knows the challenges we face and the loss and grief we feel. The question to us is this: will we pray for and willingly participate in God’s work healing the hurt, loss, and injustice that this pandemic has caused and exposed? Will we offer all we can to the Lord to “make all things new?” See the Pastor’s Portion for the entire statement or visit https://www.usccb.org/resources/2020-labor-day-statement-0.

"All creation is groaning in labor pains even until now; and…we also groan within ourselves as we wait for…the redemption of our bodies" (Romans 8:22-23). Jesus is for each of us our personalSavior and each of us wants to get toheaven. That said, Jesus is also the

Savior of the Universe, and we are “expecting” a blessed event on the level of creations itself, namely, the arrival of “a new heaven and a new earth” (Rev. 21:1).

We read in Sacred Scripture: “…the Lord God then took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it” (Gen. 2:15). The Season of Creation, extending from September 1 through the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi on October 4, is an opportunity for us to do an examination our conscience, our consciousness and our practices regarding our

Respect for the Planet's Resources We pray that the planet's resources will not be

plundered, but shared in a just and respectful manner.

Prayer to Saint Michael, the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;

be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,

by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits

who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

It’s not too late to join Holy Family School! Openings still exist in every grade level for the 2020-2021 school year. Our nurturing and engaging

Preschool and Kindergarten programs set the foundation for the academically rigorous curriculum provided in all grade levels. The use of technology and cutting edge instructional methods address the needs of the 21st century learner. Ours is a program rich in tradition, adapted to the present, and wrapped in faith. Come and see what sets us apart! Registrations for the 2020-2021 school year are now being accepted! For more information or to schedule a personal tour, contact us at 610-933-7562 or [email protected]. Visit our website at www.myholyfamilyschool.org and like us on Facebook!

Holy Family School welcomes retired or “on a break” certified teachers to join our substitute pool. We value our substitute teachers, and they quickly become part of our family! If you or anyone you know would care to join our ranks, please send your resume to the office at [email protected]. Be aware that both PA clearances and documentation of diocesan trainings are required in order to substitute teach at Holy Family School. Call the office at 610-933-7562 for more information.

Streaming to the "Mass"es

Since March, we have been fortunate to have Deacon Giblin livestream our Masses on Facebook Live. This has been a great worship aid to those unable to attend in person. Since we expect to continue livestreaming for the foreseeable future, we are looking to relieve our resident "camera-Deacon" from this task. If you are interested, and are 18 or older, and have basic computer skills, please contact the parish office (610-933-3732).
