Welcome to Saint Joseph Parish! May 10, 2020 www.stjosephmech.org Fifth Sunday of Easter P ARISH TRANSFORMATION

HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY! We wish a happy day in a special way to all Mothers, Grandmothers, Mothers-to-be, etc. I am grateful for these women in my life who have loved me, nurtured me, and given such good example. I am especially

blessed my Mother (whose grandkids call her “Grammy”) is still here with us. We all have a common Mother – the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Catholic Church holds Our Lady in the highest esteem. Mary has a special place within the mystery of the Church. I invite you to find out what the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches about Mary in sections 963- 975. Paragraph 971 treats of our devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary:

"All generations will call me blessed": The Church's devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship. The Church rightly honors the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of 'Mother of God,' to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs. This very special devotion differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration. The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an "epitome of the whole Gospel," express this devotion to the Virgin Mary.

When Our Lady gave her “fiat” (“let it be done unto me”) at the Annunciation, she not only gave her consent to the Incarnation, but was collaborating with her Son’s work of Redemption. Because of her special role in God’s Plan for Salvation, we believe that Mary was taken, body and soul, to heavenly glory when her earthly life was completed. Mary already shares in the glory of her Son’s Resurrection, something that we all hope to share in some day. And from her place in heaven, Mary continues to be “Mother” to all who believe in her Son.

With this in mind, we pray to Mary for all mothers: We thank you, God, for all mothers who give and serve selflessly day after day. Please bless them for the important role they play in the lives of their children and family members. Bless all mothers with your abundant grace because of the encouragement and love they give us. Help them to give wise counsel, discipline, instruction, and to raise their children to know and love God. Thank you for the example that our mothers are to us, their children and grandchildren, and to others. Bless families abundantly, and meet their every need.

Please give these godly women health and strength to care for their loved ones. Fill their hearts with joy as they go about the mundane, day-to-day tasks. Carry their burdens, Lord. When they are weary, lift their spirits and restore their souls. Help them to trust in you and lean on you alone for strength. O Mary, Mother of the Word Incarnate, help our mothers to recognize how important their lives are to us, their children and families. May they do their part in God’s Plan of Salvation. May they understand the vital vocation God has given them in their home and in the Kingdom of God. O Blessed Virgin Mary, who is Mother to us all, PRAY FOR US! Amen.

New Communication Method from Father Rozman

On April 3, 2020, Father Rozman started an email newsletter for our parish family! In a way to stay connected during our stay at home quarantine, Father will be sending timely updates about our parish. These emails are currently going to our parishioners whose email address we have. If you did not receive these emails and would like to be included in our distribution list, please contact the parish office, either by phone at 717-766-9433 or email at [email protected] with your current email address and we will add your information to our database. Be sure to check your inbox Friday afternoons!

Our Parish YouTube Channel

Please subscribe to our Parish YouTube channel! To locate our channel, search for “stjosephmech” on the YouTube website and subscribe. You may also connect through our website www.stjosephmech.org and click on the YouTube icon in the top right corner. We will be posting ALL Masses (both recorded and live-streamed) to this channel, as well as other devotions and spiritual offerings. This is a great way to help keep us connected to all the wonderful things happening in our Parish!

JOIN US FOR A HYMN SING!

Each Wednesday night at 7:00 PM, we will livestream a hymn-sing from the choir loft of our church. Every week will feature one of our parish cantors singing 10 hymns from our hymnal, with room for a few requests from the comments section at the end! A song-sheet is provided on our website for you to sing along with us! We hope you’ll join us as we lift our voices in Praise to God!

Bishop Ronald Gainer will celebrate the annual Chrism Mass for the Diocese of Harrisburg at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 in the Cathedral Parish of Saint Patrick, Harrisburg. This liturgy will be live streamed on the Diocese of Harrisburg YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS3AZHguttM

The Chrism Mass offers the faithful a solemn occasion to witness the blessing of the oils and the consecration of the Sacred Chrism that will be used in the celebration of the sacraments throughout the coming year. Also, during this Mass, the priests of the Diocese will remotely renew their commitment to priestly service that they made on the day of their ordination.

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week, and while Trinity teachers are always to be commended, right now they are truly shining. They have shepherded our students through the loss of their routine, their sports and activities, and their contact with their friends. They have used great

ingenuity to deliver their regular lessons online with no time to prepare, and have employed great patience to wade through two hundred emails daily. With this awe of the effort of every single one of our teachers, we’d like to highlight a few teachers this week. Students wrote about influential teachers and we will share them on Instagram over the course of the week. If you’d like to contribute, please email [email protected].

Bishop Ronald Gainer will hold a combined Baccalaureate Mass for all the Diocesan high schools to be live-streamed on the Diocesan YouTube channel on May 27 at 7:00 PM. We encourage all students and their families to join Bishop Gainer for the celebration of this Mass.
