The RX 450h is a gas/electric hybridvehicle that has both high-voltage DCand AC systems as well as a 12-voltsystem. Both DC and AC high volt-age are very dangerous and cancause personal injury, severe burns, electric shock and even fatal injuryunless appropriate precautions aretaken.

To avoid personal injury, please followall caution labels attached to high-voltage parts. Do not touch orattempt to remove or replace anyhigh-voltage (orange-colored) wiringand connectors. Do not touch theservice plug behind the trim under the left rear seat.

If an accident occurs, do not touchany high-voltage wiring, connectorsor parts such as the inverter under thehood or the hybrid battery assemblyunder the rear seat.

Do not touch the potassium hydroxideelectrolyte that might spill or leakfrom the hybrid battery as the result ofan accident. If potassium hydroxideelectrolyte gets on your skin or inyour eyes, neutralize it immediatelywith a saturated boric acid solution(ratio: 80 grams boric acid to twoliters water). Seek immediate medicalattention.

If a vehicle fire occurs, extinguish it with a Class D powder-type fire extinguisher.

MAINTENANCE BASICS

MAINTENANCE ISESSENTIAL

Regular maintenance is essential toobtaining the highest level of per-formance, safety and reliability fromyour Lexus. It can also enhance yourvehicle’s resale value.

It is especially important to checkyour vehicle’s engine oil once amonth and to regularly replace theengine oil and oil filter. Failure to doso can cause oil starvation and/or oilgelling, which can result in severedamage to your vehicle and requirecostly repairs that are not covered bythe New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Lexus recommends having mainte-nance for your vehicle performed byan authorized Lexus dealership. Tolocate your nearest authorized Lexusdealership, contact Lexus CustomerSatisfaction at (800)255-3987 orvisit www.lexus.com.

DETERMINING YOURMAINTENANCEINTERVAL: MONTHS VS. MILEAGE

Lexus recommends obtaining maintenance for your vehicle everysix months or 5,000 miles, whichevercomes first.

For example:

• If at six months you have drivenless than 5,000 miles, youshould obtain maintenance at six months; don’t wait until5,000 miles.

• If you drive 5,000 miles in lessthan six months, you shouldobtain maintenance at 5,000miles; don’t wait until six months.

Be sure to keep an eye on your mile-age so that you obtain maintenancewhen recommended. If you are a low-mileage driver, mark your calendar to remind yourself to obtain mainte-nance every six months.

• Repeated trips of less than fivemiles in temperatures below 32° F or 0°C

• Extensive idling and/or low-speed driving for long distances, such as police, taxi or door-to-door delivery use

Note: If you drive only occasionallyunder any of the special operatingconditions noted, it is not necessary to change the oil every six months or5,000 miles or to perform the addi-tional services listed in the charts. Thisadded maintenance is required only ifyou drive primarily under any of thespecial operating conditions.

Introduction

SPECIAL OPERATING CONDITIONS
