Stone Rubble Foundation Walls98. Stonefoundation wallsbelow ground, when concealed from outside view, are usually constructed of rough rubble, as shown in Fig. 34. This represents an elevation (a) and section (b) of a 20-inch rubble stone wall, shown at a, a, 10 feet high, withfootingstones b, 8 inches thick, and 2 feet 8 inches wide.

Fig. 34.99. Stone foundation walls should be bonded together, as shown in Fig. 35, where a shows thebond stone, or header, and b the stone foundation wall. All stone walls, 24 inches or less in thickness, should have at least one header extending through the wall, every 3 feet in height, and in every 4 feet of length. If the stone wall is over 24 feet in length, there should be at least one header for every 6 superficial feet of wall space, running into the wall at least 2 feet. The headers should not be less than 18 inches in width and 8 inches in thickness, and should be good, flat stone. These headers serve to bind the stones of the walls together, and keep the foundation from splitting apart crosswise whenweightis placed upon it.100. Fig. 36, at a, a, shows verticaljointscoming one above another through three or four successive outside courses. This should never be allowed, but the joints of the stonework should be broken, as shown in Fig. 34.

Fig. 35.

Fig. 36.

Fig. 37.Where a long vertical joint occurs, the weight of the wall above may cause the wall to settle more on one side of the joint than on the other, and produce serious rupture.101. All wall angles should be well tied by long stones laid alternately in the wall, as shown at a, Fig. 37, the long angle stones tying the wall at that point. By using these long stones, the weight on the corners of the wall is more equally distributed, and the wall can be kept plumb and true.102. Foundation stone should always be laid on their natural or quarry beds. The tendency to splitting or cleavage in a stone is with the grain or bed; so when the stone is laid on the original bed, the weight of thematerialplaced above it comes against the grain of the stone. No stone should have more face than bed, and one side, at least, of each stone should be reasonably flat. Every stone laid should be well bedded inmortar.103. The usual practice with masons in rough walling is, aftersettingthe larger stones, to fill the interstices with spalls or chips of stone, or even pebbles, more or less carefully fitted, and put in dry; then to dash in mortar, trusting it will work its way into the crevices. It does so to some extent, but the method is not a good one. A good, conscientious workman will place no stone, even the smallest chip, except in a bed of mortar prepared to receive it, rubbing it well in, and settling it with blows of the trowel and hammer; again driving smaller fragments into the mortar, which is squeezed up around it; so that all the stones have a layer of mortar between them.A good plan is also to grout the walls with mortar, made so thin that it will flow into the spaces, and interstices, between the stone.104. For good work, it is necessary that the outside of the wall (even when concealed by the excavated bank) should be carried up with a good face, as shown in Figs. 34 and 37, and the joints well filled with either cement, orlime-and-cement mortar. If this is properly done, any moisture that runs out from the bank or descends from above, so as to flow down over the outer face of the wall, willdripoff, instead of running into the joints.105. The space between the outside of the foundation and the bank of theexcavationshould be filled in withgravelorsand(preferably the former), well packed down. Thus in Fig. 38, a shows the space between the foundation wall and the bank, while b is the stone wall. This method makes thecellardrier and warmer, and keeps much of the moisture away from the foundation walls.

How to Build Rubble Stone WallsText size:AA|Report Abuse|PrintRelated AdsNatural Stone WallsStack StoneStone PanelsCultured StonePatio StoneStone FacadeStone SidingOverviewRubble stone is the by-product of either natural geological occurrences or work in a quarry. While it is usually used as fill for mortared walls, it may also be used on its own to create beautiful, rustic rubble stone walls that will enhance any landscape. It is also an economical resource, and building with it is almost like solving a puzzle as you work to fit the pieces together.Gathering StoneStep 1Lay out a rough outline in string of the size and shape of the rubble stone walls you want to build. Determine the height, length and width of each.Step 2Calculate the amount of rubble stone needed for each wall by multiplying the three measurements to get the total cubic feet. Fifteen cubic feet of wall requires one ton of stone. Add extra to ensure you have enough and to account for the irregular shape of rubble stone and the varying density of the rocks.Step 3Collect or purchase the required amount of rubble stones. Shale, slate, schist and limestone are good choices for building rubble stone walls as they are easily split if necessary.Step 4Sort the stones into piles of similar sizes and shapes to make the process of fitting the rubble stones together easier and quicker.Building the WallStep 1Dig a trench the length of the wall. It should be at least a foot wide for a rubble stone wall up to three feet high, wider if the rubble stones are wide, and at least six inches deep.Step 2Stack the largest rubble stones in the trench to form the wall's footing. This will help prevent the wall from sliding forward. Make sure the stones are level and complete the whole length of the wall before continuing.Step 3Use a tamper to pack the rubble stones in place, adding dirt as needed. Fill in space between the larger rocks with smaller rocks, using the hammer and chisel to break them up if necessary.Step 4Place the second layer of rubble stones so that they fill any openings created by the first layer. Add dirt and smaller rocks to fill in the spaces. Water carefully poured on the fill will help it settle. Try to maintain the rule of two stones over one, one stone over two for maximum strength and stability. Build each layer in this manner until the desired height is reached.Step 5Split some of the larger rubble stones that are left so that they are flat and place on the very top of the wall to give it a more finished appearance.China ledge wall stonewww.slate-quartzite.comWe manufacture slate panel, ledgestone and cultured slateAAA

In this experiment, it confuses your mind where you have to think the opposite. Usually, when you move the mouse up the cursor on the screen would move up. Generally, the mouse would move the same direction as the cursor. Suppose, if you move the mouse up and the cursor moves down the screen. This would create confusion in the brain where you have to practice this new skill. The independent variable in this lab was the condition that was the control and the experimental. The dependent variable was the time of target. There are a few strengths and weaknesses in this experiment. The strength is helps you how to think better in a different way. This experiment plays with your mind. You may think your moving cursor up but the person is really moving it down. The more trials you practice this experiment the better he/she will get. The weakness could be the percent error in this experiment. The data we got may not be accurate. One error could be that the mouse was not comfortable to let the person move it up and down smoothly. Another is that the computer does not let you know when you to start. This could cause the delay in time. The last weakness is that the mouse pad may not be large enough for you to move the mouse. If youre looking at the screen while youre moving mouse, your mouse may move off the pad that can cause a distraction. This experiment can be applied to clinical and scientific problems. Doctors may conduct experiments to see if there is any damage in their brain. If the patient has problems with their actions then Doctors would examine the patients right brain. If a patient cant organize their actions, then they would have Apraxia where the damage would Page 1 of 2 Next >

The purpose of this experiment was to measure how motor learning occurs over time? There are different methods of learning a certain skill and able to master it.
