Ralph’s belief was that education was the cherished means to any goal. In alignment with this philosophy, the RVF mission is to promote student achievement and academic excellence. Its aim is to support educational development for children of all ages, reward high-achieving students for their successes in the classroom and the community, and inspire academic excellence by propagating Ralph’s story. To achieve these goals, the Foundation works to support students financially and academically by awarding high achieving high school seniors with college scholarships and by sponsoring education-related service activities. In its inaugural year the RVF’s primary focus was to serve as a financial resource for students by awarding college scholarships to high-achieving high school seniors. Its approach was to secure scholarship funds through a combination of fundraising events, corporate sponsorships, and private donations. By the end of 2012, the Foundation organized nine successful fundraising events and secured over $20,000 in donations. RVF maintains a readership of over 900 subscribers heading into 2013. The RVF 5K scholarship run

Tentative: May 18, 2013

The Ralph Verde Foundation is organizing a 5K run in Woodland Park’s Garrett Mountain. Keep posted

on our website for further details.

The Ralph Verde Foundation Mentorship Program (RVF-MP) will serve as a resource providing students in underprivileged educational systems the opportunity to develop a strong academic foundation outside of the classroom. While there are currently over 5,000 mentoring programs that serve an estimated three mil-lion youths in the United States, there is differentiation in the effectiveness of these interactions when it comes to advancing students’ educational development. The RVF-MP aims to identify factors that lead to the optimization of benefits for young people seeking support resources for educational advancement.

Students selected for the RVF-MP will be assigned a mentor who will be trained to provide guidance and re-sources aimed at developing educational skills. Topics include enhancing study habits, developing test-taking strategies, and supporting college/career-goal planning. Consistent with the RVF’s mission to pro-mote student achievement and academic excellence, the overarching goal of the program is to provide stu-dents with equal access to tools necessary to achieve success.

The RVF is currently applying for corporate sponsorship to fund the RVF-MP. We hope to roll this program out in Northern NJ, New York City and Washington DC by Fall 2013.
