RVA Yoga and More Application for National Battlefield Park

To Whom It May Concern: 7/8/2016 Thank you for accepting Desert Canvas, Appalachia’s application on behalf of all of the attendees, for Yoga and More in the Park at Chimborazo National Battlefield Park. In addition to the application form, attached are several other papers further depicting the Yoga and More event. It is the goal of Yoga and More to create a space that inspires and stimulates individuals, helping them realize they are not in this world alone and they can create their own reality. We do this through core activities of Meditation, Yoga, Hoola-Hooping, and Slacklining. We pride ourselves on dropping labels and being respectful to each other and those around us, both individuals and organizations. We are conscious about leaving “no negative trace” after our events. We have achieved this by reaching out to neighbors of Chimborazo Park and getting their feedback on noise level, disruption, etc. We found that none of the neighbors were concerned about noise level, but two were inconvenienced by the lack of parking on the public street in front of their house during our first event. Since then, before each of our events, we post a map of the park asking our attendees NOT to park on the public street that these two individuals were concerned about. We also have held a clean sweep, to pick up trash in the surrounding area of Chimborazo National Battlefield Park and would like to plan more. In addition, we put protective material between the trees and the ropes we use for our slackline activities. All of the Yoga and More events are family friendly, completely free, and are co-created by many different people who want to share their passions with others. Here are a couple of quotes from individuals who have participated in Yoga and More: “It’s the most relaxed state I've been in since I got massages. Probably more than my massages...really good crowd of people too.” “It’s a chance to get out and meet new people in a comfortable atmosphere.” “Every person I have talked to [about Yoga and More] plans on attending because of what it is- a place to truly be yourself, learn from others, and cultivate your creativity. I can't imagine this opportunity not being offered in the future.” The National Park Service centennial goal is to “connect with and create the next generation of park visitors, supporters, and advocates.” We believe we are part of this next generation and are on board to help the park in making sure it continues to be a place that is conserved and maintained so people can come together for outdoor recreation. Thank you for considering our request and please reach out to me should you have any questions. We believe our values sit right alongside yours and this can be the beginning of a healthy relationship between our two groups. In the National Park Service mission statement it says you are proud to be “creating close to home opportunities for kids and families to get outside, be active, and have fun.” I hope this application package shows you that we too are creating these opportunities, but need your support in continuing to do so. Transcript of RVA Yoga and More Application for National Battlefield Park

To Whom It May Concern: 7/8/2016

Thank you for accepting Desert Canvas, Appalachia’s application on behalf of all of the attendees, for Yoga and

More in the Park at Chimborazo National Battlefield Park. In addition to the application form, attached are

several other papers further depicting the Yoga and More event.

It is the goal of Yoga and More to create a space that inspires and stimulates individuals, helping them realize

they are not in this world alone and they can create their own reality. We do this through core activities of

Meditation, Yoga, Hoola-Hooping, and Slacklining. We pride ourselves on dropping labels and being respectful

to each other and those around us, both individuals and organizations. We are conscious about leaving “no

negative trace” after our events. We have achieved this by reaching out to neighbors of Chimborazo Park and

getting their feedback on noise level, disruption, etc. We found that none of the neighbors were concerned

about noise level, but two were inconvenienced by the lack of parking on the public street in front of their

house during our first event. Since then, before each of our events, we post a map of the park asking our

attendees NOT to park on the public street that these two individuals were concerned about. We also have

held a clean sweep, to pick up trash in the surrounding area of Chimborazo National Battlefield Park and would

like to plan more. In addition, we put protective material between the trees and the ropes we use for our

slackline activities. All of the Yoga and More events are family friendly, completely free, and are co-created by

many different people who want to share their passions with others.

Here are a couple of quotes from individuals who have participated in Yoga and More:

“It’s the most relaxed state I've been in since I got massages. Probably more than my massages...really good

crowd of people too.”

“It’s a chance to get out and meet new people in a comfortable atmosphere.”

“Every person I have talked to [about Yoga and More] plans on attending because of what it is- a place to truly

be yourself, learn from others, and cultivate your creativity. I can't imagine this opportunity not being offered in

the future.”

The National Park Service centennial goal is to “connect with and create the next generation of park visitors,

supporters, and advocates.” We believe we are part of this next generation and are on board to help the park

in making sure it continues to be a place that is conserved and maintained so people can come together for

outdoor recreation.

Thank you for considering our request and please reach out to me should you have any questions. We believe

our values sit right alongside yours and this can be the beginning of a healthy relationship between our two

groups. In the National Park Service mission statement it says you are proud to be “creating close to home

opportunities for kids and families to get outside, be active, and have fun.” I hope this application package

shows you that we too are creating these opportunities, but need your support in continuing to do so.
