The Tell Them From Me parent survey (Term 3, 2019)

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent/carer surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will

typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted

between 26 August and 25 October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are

very much appreciated.

To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/kpt5n

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au The survey is available in 23 languages.

IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION Leaving School Early

Permission from the school will only be approved for:

A. A medical/dentist/specialist appointment substantiated by a copy of the appointment slip and/or the doctor’s name, surgery address and appointment time; or

B. Family emergency. Brief details to validate this request must be provided (or parent contact details). Whilst parents may give their permission for a student to leave early, it is ONLY the school which can approve the leave. If a student has a note from their parent/caregiver and they satisfy A. or B. of the conditions above, the student must: give the note/details to the Administration Office before Roll Call. Students are not to leave the school grounds without a school “early leaver” slip. Students attending TAFE or other courses carry school approval documentation. Unscheduled collection of students during the last lesson is disruptive to teaching and learning. Un-less it is an emergency situation, parents will be asked to wait until the end of the school day for stu-dent/s to be collected. If a student is collected early from school by a parent/guardian, please ensure you bring with you photo identification.

REQUEST FOR ALL SCHOOL MAINTENANCE LOCAL TRADES PROVIDERS AND SUPPLIERS The NSW Government has committed the largest investment in planned maintenance at public schools in the history of NSW. A record $1.3 billion is being spent on an ambitious delivery program, focused on employing local businesses and contractors across the state. To assist in addressing regional school maintenance issues and at the same time provide work for local trade’s persons and suppliers across the Hunter / Central Coast regions, over $100 million is being invested to upgrade and maintain our school infrastructure. Given this record spend by School Infrastructure NSW, you are invited to an Asset Management Unit industry breakfast briefing. This will provide information to existing and new contractors on how you can get involved. To find out more by attending our Industry breakfast register at: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/industry-engagement-information-session-tickets-65766578607 or contact your Asset Management Unit on 4088 3500.

RUTHERFORD TECHNOLOGY HIGH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER - 13th September 2019

YEAR 12 REPORT

It was great to see the students of Year 12 raise over $400.00 from their cake and ice cream day on Thursday 5 September. The students donated the ingredients, baked, labelled and sold to the school. Such was the quality of the goodies that there were no leftovers. When I say that I was impressed, I wish to add, that I am comparing these students to all who have come before them as I have been here a long time.

Students are also fundraising through auctioning their services as labour during the last week. This is also likely to raise a significant sum which can be used to offset some of the costs of the formal, donation to a charitable cause and gift to the school.

As the excitement builds and the last days of schooling approach I would remind the students not to lose focus on their studies. I have read the final reports and a common theme from staff involves revision of past papers. We ask the students not to lose sight of the purpose for being at school and work at their potential. Mr Kevin McMullen Year 12 Year Advisor

YEAR 10 REPORT

With the end of Term 3 approaching, this marks one more Term left of their junior year.

Year 10 students have been busy demonstrating their talents in both their studies and extracurricular activities.

This term Year 10 were able to participate in the New Brave Program, students were given a presentation about mental health, self-empowerment and were given advice on how to seek help and lift others. We want to commend Year 10 on being respectful and attentive during their session and by asking relevant and engaging questions.

Next term Year 10 will spend some time training as leaders in the Peer Support Program for next year. This program will allow them to have the opportunity to lead, guide and support the Year 7 students as a Peer Support Leader, any students interested in doing so please come and see your year advisors. This is a massive opportunity for Year 10 to develop some leadership skills and be active role models for the upcoming Year 7’s.

Year 10 have a lot of upcoming assessment tasks and a lot of outstanding tasks waiting to be resolved. The Learning Hub and the Homework Centre are facilities students can access at school and are encouraged to seek additional support if needed to help complete assessment tasks.

We want to encourage students to get into good study habits for their upcoming Yearly Exams and for preparation for their senior years. Make sure you are up to date with your work, get a good night sleep and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need any. Remember that your teachers are always willing to help you.

We would also like to congratulate the following Year 10 students for receiving a Year Advisor Award for their ongoing commitment to the schools core values: Jye Youlten, MacKenzie Apps, Jeremy Gamueda, Cameron Hayward, Ben Hackett, Kasie Moy, Kade Windon, Jordan Lodo, Rhys Mayer, Matt Houghton, Ruby Geering, Harrison Brown and Jessica Roser.

Don’t forget to save your B-Buck for Rewards Day at the end of week 10! Keep up the Good work Year 10 and get pumped and excited for your final junior term. Ms Genevieve Scott Year 10 Year Advisor

SUPPORT REGIONAL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL SUCCESS On Monday 9 September 2019, 22 x students, 1 x senior student helper and 8 x very excited teachers headed to the Glendale Sports Complex for the combined Support Regional Athletics Carnival. As Rutherford Technology High School students had not attended in many years no one knew what to expect or how the results would go.

The day started with all 15+ schools and 200+ students completing a march past then going in to some fun activities. These fun activities were tunnel ball and captain ball and the two events were also a competition. RTHS had three teams in each event with them all competing. Team 1 won both captain ball and tunnel ball gaining 1st place ribbons. Team 2 came 2nd in captain ball and Team 3 came 3rd in tunnel ball. All students displayed great sportsmanship and team work and were congratulated by other schools for their respect and communication skills. From the start, RTHS teachers knew we were in for a great day!

The day then moved in to the track and field events where RTHS students shone in all age categories (Junior, Intermediate, Senior). Both girls and boys won places in every event, but the most pleasing is that all students tried and participated with an excellent attitude. RTHS was extremely proud of Year 11 student, Jessey Goodridge, as she volunteered her time to come support the students, demonstrate skills and marshal on the day. Jessey showed great leadership, communication skills and a brilliant attitude throughout the entire day. Students have broken records and gained age champions, however we are waiting on exact times/distances before giving out those awards.

Confirmed results are below: Junior Girls: Intermediate Girls: Senior Girls: Eliza Kiernan Brodie Higgison Khadejah Date -1st 100m -3rd High Jump -3rd 100m -1st High Jump -3rd Long Jump -2nd 200m Skye Woods -3rd Discuss -2nd Javelin -3rd Discuss Hayley Higgison -3rd 100m Junior Boys: Intermediate Boys: Senior Boys: Ned Sutherland Jett Habgood Rowan Tonkies -1st 400m -1st 100m -2nd 100m -1st Javelin -1st 200m -3rd 200m -1st High Jump -1st 400m -1st Discuss -1st High Jump -2nd 100m -1st Long Jump -2nd 200m -1st Javelin -2nd Shot Put -1st Shot Put -3rd Long Jump Matthew Houghton Tyrone Blanch -2nd Javelin -1st 100m -2nd Shot Put -1st 200m -2nd Long Jump -1st Long Jump -2nd 200m -2nd Javelin -2nd High Jump Joshua Hunt -2nd Discuss -3rd Javelin -3rd 400M -3rd Shot Put Blake Baxter -1st Shot Put -3rd Discuss Charlie Williams -3rd 100m -3rd 200m
