Moscow International Documentary Film Festival DOKer has stemmed from the project of the same name which screens independent non-fiction. The Festival seeks theatrical style documentaries. It tends towards new films that have received minimal exposure in Russia. DOKer focuses on independent documentary cinema that incorporates both poetic narrative and social blockbusters; footage and mockumentary; art-house and science-fiction; classic and experiment.

The main principles: - When we say ‘documentary film’ we put the emphasis on ‘film’. - There are countless ways to make a documentary but we believe it has to be dra-

matic and interesting. - Image and sound are as important for docs as they are for fiction films. The film

language is universal, and we use it to tell our stories.Festival Dates – May 20 – 24, 2016Extended Deadline – 15 JanuarySubmissions: through FilmFreeway or FestHome

SYNOPSISIs it possible to tell about Putin’s Russia with its contradictions and problems in 29 minutes? No, but VICTORY DAY is one of the sections of modern Russia shown though the protagonists’ stories. In 2013 the Russian State Duma passed a law forbidding pro-paganda supporting non-traditional sexual relationship among minors. This law led to an intensification of homophobic feeling in society. There is a military parade is marching outside while the protagonists are sitting in their cozy apartments and telling us about their lives since the law was adopted. “After the Jews and queers”, - one of them says, - all that’s missing is a law against witches”. Welcome to the Middle Ages, welcome to Russia today.

SYNOPSISThe sin of murder that cannot be washed away, the mark of Cain, a personal catastrophe. This happened to Vyacheslav Shara-yevski 25 years before, when he was a district prosecutor. The death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment when a moratorium was placed on capital punishment, but some thirty men sat together in a single room for six months, expecting to die on the 3rd, 13th, and 23rd. A change happened then, like being born anew. This man who was once an atheist, rationalist, and skeptic now became like a babe, a child of God. He owes his new life to an amazing priest, Alexander Borisov. Between the saint and the sinner is an eternal link. How they need one another.

SYNOPSIS1991, I am 18 years old. Leaving my hometown, Petersburg, I move to Moscow. As the Soviet Union collapses, my life changes for good during the first Gagarin Party – I heard rave music for the first time. That night, I flew away to the sound of techno music. “ My life will never be the same ” I told Vanya, one of the organizers of the rave party. Twenty-five years later, I still live in Moscow, in a numbed Russia. I remember those years, full of freedom, hope and energy. I remember Vanya, who disappeared without a trace in 1998. Tracking down his lead, I go back to this fast period using pieces of experiences, testimonies, archives and memories. Where is Vanya Salmaksov? Where are these wild emotions, this extreme excitement, our weird romanticism? Where has this time fled, where has our youth gone?

SYNOPSISDuring the second half of the ‘80s, electronic dance music movement was in full swing in the West. The first historical story of the invasion and development of western music and lifestyle in Eastern Europe. This most definitely influenced further democratization of the society up until the complete collapse of the old political system. It was only owing to the evolution of the political situation that the information exchange between the West and the East, with time and technological improvements, could become instrumental in the development of musical culture. First raves in Riga and the following Tape-DJ World Championship in 1989 were events of a new genre that fundamentally changed the view on DJ’s role in dance events. Also the content of dance events changed. The music changed. These events became grounds of a whole new movement. Impulse it gave in direction of Saint Petersburg caused a birth of a new musical culture, which later became popular in all Russia.

SYNOPSISIn history of German literature Gothe’s journey to Italy and Rilke’s - to Russia - were the most important ones for their future work. Russia was a poetical and theological experience in Rilke’s life: ‘... I have a feeling I saw the work of the Creator’. The Russia, that Rilke saw at the turn of the century, was already gone. Would any new, modern days European genius want to see in our country, that was rid of its backbone, his ‘spiritual fatherland’? What could such fine artist, an aesthete, a genius poet, such as Rilke, pos-sibly see in this land, in Russia? In the decline of his years he wrote about Russia: ‘... it turned me into what I am now; inside - I come from there, homeland of my feelings, the origin of my inner world is there...’
