A note from the President of Pi Kappa Alpha,
Jake Boodt
Gentlemen,
Membership in Pi Kappa Alpha gives men the opportunity to make the most of an undergraduate colle-
giate experience. Perhaps the best opportunity Pi Kappa Alpha has to offer is the ability to cultivate a socially su-
perior man. Pi Kappa Alpha consists of Scholars, Leaders, Athletes, and Gentlemen; men who are champions and
will settle for nothing less than excellence in everything they do.
Pi Kappa Alpha realizes students enroll in college to receive a quality education; therefore strong empha-
sis is placed upon academic excellence. Through the use of minimum GPA standards, mentor programs and con-
tinued education both inside and outside of the classroom, members of Pi Kappa Alpha are set to excel academi-
cally.
Fraternity provides a valuable place to develop leadership skills to further members not only while in col-
lege, but into a professional career as well. Pi Kappa Alpha places an emphasis on leadership not only within the
Fraternity, but within the community and university as well. Pi Kappa Alpha is one of the largest fraternal organ-
izations in North America and the opportunity it provides to network with alumni is unparalleled.
Pi Kappa Alpha believes that athletic competition provides valuable benefits to members. Through athlet-
ic competition, members build teamwork skills necessary to excel in the business world, as well as bolster unity
within our brotherhood. Members strive for excellence in all we do – in the classroom, on the playing field, and in
everyday life.
Pi Kappa Alpha is dedicated to developing men of integrity, intellect, and high moral character. We con-
tinue the tradition of recruiting quality gentlemen just as our founders did in 1868. Members are highly encour-
aged to take part in community service and philanthropy events presented to its membership. We believe a com-
mitment to service is an integral part of developing a young man.

Scholars Pi Kappa Alpha strives to have the best grades on
campus. Being a scholar helps you stand out on campus
and will inevitably make you look better to future em-
ployers. Because our chapter is so diverse, we can ensure
that you will have help in any major you choose and eve-
ry class you take. With scholarship being so important to
our chapter, many members of the faculty here at Indi-
ana State are beginning to notice our commitment and are glad to see
our members in their classes.
As a Pike you would have to maintain a 2.5 grade point average
(GPA) or higher. We will also help you set personal goals to ensure
that you succeed in college. Our minimum requirement for GPA is
above that of the university. Those who go above and beyond that
minimum can even earn academic scholarships
that are given out through the Fraternity.
There are 17 scholarships amounting to a total
of $6,500 each year. Pi Kappa Alpha members
are proud to be some of the best on campus
and are always looking forward to going above
and beyond our goal.

23rd Robert Adger Smythe
Award
After 35 years of dedication, hard work, and strong desire
to be the best, Pi Kappa Alpha at Indiana State has
achieved the goal of winning their 5th Smythe in a row
making them at not only dynasty level internationally, but
also the most winning chapter in the nation. We do this by
getting “the most best men” who represent our values and
morals. The men of Pi Kappa Alpha at Indiana State Uni-
versity want you to consider this publication and its con-
tents seriously. It represents the character of a very special
group of men. If you feel like quali-
ties of success are the same that
you foster, give us a call and join
the best fraternity, Pi Kappa Al-
pha.

Leaders Members of Pi Kappa Alpha strive to be involved on campus. Furthermore, our mem-
bers strive for leadership in organizations on campus. Our members have held numerous
leadership positions over the years in many different organizations. Some of these organiza-
tions include Student Government Association, Campus Outreach, Freshman Council, Resi-
dence Hall Association, and R.O.T.C.
Pike puts a lot of emphasis on developing quality, effective leaders. Training is offered
for members so we can learn to become leaders through many different mediums whether
through the university or through programs implemented by Pike’s International Headquar-
ters.
“Pi Kappa Alpha has taught me exceptional leadership skills. I have had the opportuni-
ty and privilege to observe many different leaders on campus and in the Fraternity on both a
chapter and international level. I have also had the experience and privilege to hold leader-
ship positions as well and learn from my predecessors.”

Community Service & Philanthropy
Being part of the ISU and Terre Haute community, the men of Pi Kappa Alpha are ded-
icated to giving back. It is our duty to help those in our community and better the lives of our
neighbors. Working with the community is the best way to leave our mark in someone’s life.
We realize that some people are less fortunate than others. We give back to our commu-
nity by raising money with our different philanthropy events and volunteering around the ar-
ea. An event that Pike hosts every year is Change for Change. We build and live in a box city
for a few nights. All of the money we raise goes to the Bethany House, a local organization
that helps out women and children. Another big philanthropy that we do is our annual Fire
Truck Pull. In this event we get different Fraternities and sororities to compete by pulling a
fire truck and the team with the quickest time wins the pull. This event not only gives money
to the Special Olympics of Indiana, but also advertises for the Special Olympics held during
the summer.
Last year Pi Kappa Alpha, raised $26,809 through philan-
thropy events that went right back into the Terre Haute commu-
nity. We also served 2,188 hours volunteering throughout the
community. Giving back to the community is something that the
men of Pi Kappa Alpha honor and love doing.

Athletes One key area for Pi Kappa Alpha is athletics. This
includes athletics through intramural sports as well as sup-
porting varsity teams here at Indiana State University. Pi
Kappa Alpha takes pride in winning. Not only have we been
intramural champions for Greeks for 33 out of the 35 years
but we also win competitions for Greek Spirit Nights at the
varsity sporting events. We always have the most men at games supporting football, volley-
ball, and basketball, as well as other ISU teams. We believe it is just as important to sup-
port the varsity athletes as it is to go to our own games.
Through intramural sports, relationships are formed. While the main focus of intra-
murals is to win, it is also important that the team comes together. There is no easier way
to create relationships than through athletics. Even if brothers are not athletic, coming to
games and supporting the team helps everybody become closer.
Social Pikes at Indiana State not only like to work hard, but play hard. Having socials is one
of many ways brothers have fun. We have socials with not only sorority women, but also In-
diana State athletic teams. Connecting with individuals that have different backgrounds
and lifestyles is one of the many benefits. An annual social we have every semester is Milk
and Cookies. For this event, we invite sorority women, alumni, and ISU staff. This event
celebrates our chapter and the end of the recruiting season.
Socials are important to the Fraternity because we get to meet new people, make new
connections, and it also gives individuals time to relax. Pike gives the ability to turn
strangers into friends, and the opportunity to meet other Greeks, ISU athletes, and ISU fac-
ulty and staff. The Fraternity enables you to establish friendships and personal contacts
with many people—friendships and contacts that will last a lifetime.

Gentlemen The character of man is defined by how he caries himself and portrays him-
self around others. The men of Pi Kappa Alpha strive to create and uphold a
positive image for themselves and the Fra-
ternity.
Our reputation is something that we
take seriously on campus and in the Terre
Haute community. It is important that our
members know this and our potential new
members have the same mindset as well .
The chapter believes in the im-
portance of etiquette skills, being courteous, and respecting others. Opening
doors for women, having proper dinning manners, and helping those in
need are a few simple ways to portray the positive image that is associated
with our Fraternity. Pi Kappa Alpha is dedicated to developing men of in-
tegrity, intellect, and high moral character.
“Character is definitely the most important attribute that a young man pos-
sesses.” — Bobby Bowden (Samford, Alpha Pi ’49), College Football Coach-
ing Legend.

Recruitment is the
process of contacting new
members to join the ranks of
our brotherhood. New Mem-
ber Education is the process
of developing these new
members who choose to en-
ter our ranks.
Our recruitment
structure consists of various
events throughout a four
week period that are attend-
ed by potential new mem-
bers upon an invite from an
active or alumnus member of
the chapter, or from interest
in joining a Greek organiza-
tion. Our reason for conduct-
ing recruitment in this man-
ner is simple: to recruit the
most, best men. The next
step is New Member Educa-
tion.
The New Member Ed-
ucation period is an eight
week program in which the
new member experiences
fraternal and personal devel-
opment. The New Member
Education period begins with
a new member retreat where
all of the associate members
of the new associate class
gather for the first time to
get to know each other. The
New Member Education
classes are conducted much
like the active chapter in the
sense that new members
elect class officers, appoint
committee chairman, and
conduct their own weekly
meetings, along with support
from the New Member Edu-
cators. Elected chairmen are
responsible for coordinating
new member class projects
which may consist of fund-
raisers, relations with other
Greek organizations, campus
service, Fraternity service,
and community projects.
When you speak to an
active member of Theta Omi-
cron Chapter, he will most
likely express to you that one
of the experiences he would
like to relive is his New
Member Education period
because it held so much val-
ue and proved to be educa-
tional as well as fun. After
all, the new member period
is the time when future
brothers of Theta Omicron
are introduced to active
members and are able to get
a small taste of the bonds
that we all share.

Brotherhood is the most important aspect
of the fraternity. No award measures to the
lifelong friendship that are made in Pi Kap-
pa Alpha. We are diverse with many broth-
ers with different personalities, back-
grounds, and stories to tell. However, we all
come together to help each other out and
become better men. Our strong brotherhood
helps us achieve the goal of being number
one on campus. Because our chapter is so
big, we get to know each other better at our
chapter meetings, socials, and brotherhood
events. Getting together with one another
is best part about being in a fraternity and
the bonds that are made in Pike will last a
lifetime.
“Friendship is a priceless gift that cannot
be bough or sold, but its value is far greater
than a mountain of gold.” —Helen Steiner

Why Go Greek?
Going Greek will help with your social life, being able to network with different indi-
viduals who have different backgrounds, and becoming a family. Each organization is
different with their blocks (Greek letters), traditions, and rituals, but all come to-
gether to share a common goal of bettering all members. Fraternities and sororities
are known at ISU to have better grades, more community service hours, and a higher
graduation rate. Social Greek organizations also help with your future by networking
with other Greek members and sharing the bond of becoming a better man or wom-
an. The process of joining a Fraternity or Sorority at Indiana State is different from
the rest. The one thing to remember when going Greek is that it is not just four
years, but for a lifetime.
