HOW IT ALL B
Started in the spring of 1968 in Willowdale,Toronto by Alex Lifeson and John Rutsey. It wasnot until 1971 that the band had a concrete nameand a stable set of members.
In late summer of 1968, Jeff Jones wasrecruited and the band started performing live.
Geddy Lee replaced Jeff later that year, and
early in the year 1969, Lindy Young also providedher talent to the group.

HOW IT ALL B
In the summer of 1969, Lee dropped out andformed his own band. Not far behind was Youngwho left shortly after to join Lee. Unable tokeep any talent, Lifeson and Rutsey split up.

STRUGGLING TO M
Becoming a musical success was very tough inCanada. The kind of music that rush wascreating, the type of rock they produced, was notlooked upon favorably by the record companies.
Since no one was willing to take the gamble onRush, they had to make their own record companyin order to produce their music. They called it
Moon Records.

STRUGGLING TO M
In 1973, Rush produced its first single onside A was Not Fade Away and on side B was YouCant Fight It. It was only sold in Toronto andsome other parts of Canada. The band stayedvastly unknown.
In 1974, Rush released their first album,Rush. They then went on tour in Canada, trying
to spread their popularity. Their efforts werein vain, however, because outside of Toronto andother places in Canada, no one even heard of Rush.

THE BIG
One copy of Rush made its way out of Canadadown to Cleveland where it was heard by a DJnamed Donna Halper she liked what she heard andplayed it on the radio. Many people thought thatit was a new album from Led Zepplin, since themusic sounded so similar to them. Zepplin iswhere, consequently, Rush got a lot of its firstinspiration and style from.

THE BIG
The demand for the album increased, andHalper asked for more copies so she could give themto record shops. These copies sold out in no time, and Rush became greatly liked and sought after inthe US.
A record company called Mercury Recordsheard the album and liked what they heard, so they
re-released Rush world-wide. Rush became knownacross the globe, but became especially popularin the US.

Before going on tour in the US, John Rutseyleft the band for personal reasons, including hisstruggle with diabetes and feelings for what thefuture of the band was.
Auditions were held, and a new drummer wasfound in the form of Neil Pert. He was found tobe exceptionally skilled at the drums, and also
had a talent for writing lyrics. This group ofpeople would live on to be the permanent membersof Rush.

It was during this time that Rush developed aunique style very different from any other bandat the time. They were unique in every way, fromthe sound of Lees voice, the very deep andcomplex lyrics from Neil, and the very differentsound created by the instruments used byeveryone in the very talented and versatile group.
