The Orang Asli Trail Run


Running for Orang Asli/Asal group was started after some plight for the Orang Asli (OA) in the interior of the jungle fringes were made known.

It started in July 2010 among the fellow runners and has picked up awareness of its purpose. Runners are frequently spotted wearing the bib in support. The purpose for the Running for Orang Asli support group was to provide financial support for The Learning Center Project Outreach, a group set up on a non- politically affiliated nor a religion based which sends provisional, education and stationery needs to the interior villages of OA.

Notable events where Running for OA groupwas highlighted. In Tokyo Marathon, SC HongKong Marathon and even all the way up to MtKota Kinabalu and many other international runs.

The Objectives of the OA Trail Run- The provide a platform for social interaction

between the society and the OA community to create more awareness of their lifestyles, needs and assistance.

- An event to provide some form of work to generate income for their village e.g. money for them as volunteers, money for them for catering of food to the participants of the run, making the route runnable, clearing the path.

- and To provide funds for sustainable projects into their village.

The Set Up of the OA Trail Run- The OA Trail Run is essentially a charity run

where the registration fees for the run is collected as funds to be channeled to the villages identified for their sustainable projects or any provisional funds required during a given period.

- Its route will be in the region of Gombak reserve forest starting from the OA village of Kg Batu 16 Jalan Bentong Lama. It will be 10km of trail running. The distance maybe more this year.

- In an ambience of lush and raw greenery where nature is best experienced combined with the effort to ensure the love of the nature is protected.

The Sustainable Projects for 20121. For Kg Batu 14, Jalan Bentong Lama, a

piece of the OA land is being cultivated to be a showcase of OA houses and huts for community centers exemplifying the lifestyle and culture of OA. The intention for this is a combination of maintaining the heritage of OA plus some eco-tourism business for them to generate extra money for their village. The intention is to help them build a homestay program where they can invite tourist to stay in the that center.

2. For Kg Batu 16, Jalan Bentong Lama, extra income is generated to them for providing the venue, the volunteers and guides. We also cater OA food from them for the event. This will help them have some savings for the year.

The Orang Asli were employed as volunteers and marshals, again income going to them.
