WHY: Pathfinders for Autism is hosting the inaugural 5K and Family Fun Run on Sunday, October 9 at The Maryland Zoo. Awards will be given to the top three Male/Female finishers in the 5K, with additional awards given to Male/Female winners in select age categories. Additionally, the Zoo is providing reduced-price tickets to all race participants, which will be available for purchase from 7:00 – 9:30 a.m. at the Main Gate. Race registration is required to receive a discounted ticket. The race is a fundraising event for the organization, which was created in February 2000 by parents of children with autism, including Baltimore Orioles’ Hall of Famer B.J. Surhoff and his wife, Polly Winde Surhoff. Pathfinders for Autism launched the Pathfinders for Autism Resource Center in 2000. The Center offers knowledgeable staff and a searchable online database to help families in Maryland find critical service providers quickly and efficiently. Over the last 11 years, Pathfinders for Autism has become the State of Maryland’s largest autism organization dedicated to helping individuals, parents and professionals find resources, support and training while working to increase the awareness of autism spectrum disorders and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. -- www.PathfindersForAutism.org --
