What is rule of thirds?

The rule of thirds is the composition of the way a subject is aligned in an image. The image is divided with two horizontal and two vertical lines. To use this feature correctly the main image is placed on one of the lines or the interceptors.

This magazine uses rule of thirds as each part of the band is separated in these three sections. The masthead is also along one of the lines created by the rule of thirds.
